I wanted to throw this out to see if anyone else has run into this or has some thoughts on cause.  My 696 sometimes like to just cut out and stall. I have only had this happen when the engine is at 4 bars so it is sufficiently warmed up.  Typical scenario is this, roll up to a stop light, pull clutch in to wait for light, engine stumble and stalls.  Restart and rpms are low and I typically need to pull the choke back on a bit.  Doesn't happen all the time, kind of sporadic. Otherwise, it runs like a champ.  Idle just set too low?

What does it idle at?

I've had my 696 stall when I came to a stop and pulled in my clutch to drop the gear into 1st (I was other wise in neutral).  I had about 500 miles on the bike at the time.  Since then, the only time my bike stalls is if I down shift into 1st while there is only 1 bar (guess the engine isn't warmed up yet).

this kept happening to my 696 w/ 300 miles on it hot or cold, turns out my battery had a bad cell, apparently they are very sensative to low voltage, not saying that's your issue but  check the battery Grin

I will look into the battery status.  It tends to run between 900 and 1050 rpm when warmed up.  I have only had this happen at warm engine temps.  Sounds pretty similar in that it seem to happen with clutch in.  Sometimes while going to first but a couple of times while already there and just waiting for light to change.

My 2008 696 with 3700 miles began stalling at stops just recently. Like you, it was during hot weather with about 4 bars. I realized that the gas in the tank was probably a few months old so after refilling the tank with fresh gas the problem seemed to go away.

Mine does that, but only if I don't let it warm up enough before riding. Seems strange to me though considering that it's 100* F outside. I can't figure out why the hell I need to use the fas idle lever so much on a brand new fuel injected bike when it's as hot outside as it is. It has me worried about winter, not sure how well it will start and how long I'll have to wait for it to warm up to ride?

My bike is a 2010 696 with about 1100 miles on it now.

I had the same issue.

Here was my post about it:
http://ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=6561.0

It boiled down to two problems for me: idle speed too low AND, this is the big one, throttle bodies were OUT OF SYNC from the factory. Typically, bikes quitting when coming back to idle, especially after down shifting

Since adjusting both, haven't had a problem.

With regards to the battery, the voltage read out through the gauge cluster is actually very accurate. So, if you're suspicious of the battery, check the voltage both cold in the morning before starting, and after starting the bike. Should be around 12 to 12.4 in the morning. 13.6 - 13.8 after starting.

all Ducatis are VERY sensitive to low voltage in the Battery even My 1991 750 ss or , 2000 M750 have issues when battery is low they run bad.

You should try the sensitivity of a duc monza to its battery!... nothing like a 6V ducati  bang head
