Title: My New Suppressed Pellet Rifle.
Post by: blue tiger on August 25, 2008, 09:18:17 PM
This is the Gamo Whisper .22 cal pellet rifle. The company claims it is over 50% quiter than a regular pellet rifle. I don't know if it's true but it is definetly quieter to some degree. I had this one modified with a gas ram instead if the traditional coil spring. I also installed a custom trigger as the stock one's are weak. It makes about 750 FPS and takes out most household pests like Starlings/Sparrows/Rabbits/Squirells with no problem.

The mount that came with it solid but the scope is pretty cheap. I can still nail what I'm aiming at with it. It's fun and alot less expensive than my "regular" guns. If you want a pellet rifle that is quiet and hard hitting it's hard to beat this rig in .22.

Later.

What's the price tag?

edit: I found prices from 225-400 depending on accessories and stuff.

A user review on the .177 said it was as loud as a .22LR, any truth to that??

I doubt it. The .177 is higher velocity but no way is it as loud as a .22 rimfire. Mine came in at closer to 400 with the gas ram and trigger. My friend and I were nailing pop cans at about 40 yards with it no problem.

A friend of mine shoots little nuisance animals under contract with air rifles that use something approaching 3000 psi cylinders. He charges em from fully charged scuba tanks. He makes his own silencers (illegal I guess). I think some are big caliber. You can kill dear with them. Crazy stuff. He's a certified gun nut.

PCP (Precharged Pnuematic) airguns go up to .50 caliber.  Not legal in most states for hunting big game... yet.  Relatively new stuff though.

You use them when a toilet paper roll tube and tinfoil aren't available.

Ive got the Gamo .177 pellet rifle with headlight and "Laser" sight.  I shot a galvanized trash can at 15 yards and it went through both sides with a pointed RWS pellet.  Its a bad mofo for a pellet rifle.

Quieter than a paper roll cap gun...more of a thud than a crack.

Oh, man, I so need to borrow this thing!  Stupid starlings- they  come back to the same place every year and make nests up in the eaves of my building. Nice looking piece!

I effin' hate starlings. This would work great on them. Get you a pellet rifle and you will fix the starling problem.

That's a nice rifle ramjet.

The PCP rifles are going to be my next choice. Propably in .25 claiber. Nasty!!!

as much as I hate starlings (and I do!) I have them to credit for getting me back into shooting/hunting.  last year I had a few infest my eaves, this year they came back.  I'll keep dropping them as long as they persist.  Been using a lower powered CO2 rifle but am jumping up to a .22 cal PCP.  An Airforce Talon SS .22 tuned can take raccoons and with a barrel swap can be fitted with a .25 if you're needing it.  I think .25 cal is too big for most birds but would be well suited for larger, fur bearing critters.  Don't want to overpenetrate and bust windows or put holes in your house.
