Title: Wanted - Rear wheel Post by: heatherp on August 29, 2008, 01:42:22 AM Hope someone can help me out.
I have been bikeless for 2 months now as I'm having problems finding a rear wheel for my bike. Long story but I have destroyed the rear wheel due to bearing collapse. Had to send it to the Duc shop as it may have been a warranty issue but I've given up on that angle - too hard to prove.[bang] I'm looking for a rear wheel to suit an 05 Monster 1000S. It has to be from an 04 or 05 (ST is same wheel). Apparently they changed in 06. So if anyone has a spare one lying around in the shed, please get in touch. I'm in country Vic (well beyond any black stump) but bike is in Melbourne. Cheers Heather Title: Re: Wanted - Rear wheel Post by: Spider on August 29, 2008, 01:46:17 AM Heather,
can I give a few companies/mechanics a call for you...is there a price limit for it? (cheap as possible obviously!) Spider Title: Re: Wanted - Rear wheel Post by: heatherp on August 29, 2008, 01:49:43 AM Hi Spider
I have two bum steers so far one was $500 the other $800. At the moment the shop is looking at supplying a new one at $1900 !!!!! So if you can beat that (on the lower side) I would have a look at it. Thanks Heather Title: Re: Wanted - Rear wheel Post by: dragonworld. on August 29, 2008, 02:01:07 AM Hi H.
I'll do some asking around also. Ya never know what might be laying about in someones garage somewhere. ;) Gazza (No short jokes Spider ya long bastard [cheeky] ;D) Title: Re: Wanted - Rear wheel Post by: Spider on August 29, 2008, 02:03:56 AM $1900 - it's a three spoke Brembo isn't it? what was your's gold plated or something?
The 1000 went to alloys when it went to SSS in 2006 (that way it looked like it was a lighter weight - really it was hiding the fact the SSS weighed a heap more than the DSS) Title: Re: Wanted - Rear wheel Post by: mattyvas on August 29, 2008, 02:31:11 AM $1900, gee for that kinda money I'd be looking a nice set of after market jobies.
Could be just the excuse. Title: Re: Wanted - Rear wheel Post by: Dockstrada on August 29, 2008, 02:40:18 AM Stick a set of these on it [thumbsup]

I did something similar and I put a steel sleeve in and now everything is just fine. Mmick Title: Re: Wanted - Rear wheel Post by: DUCMONROB on August 29, 2008, 03:40:29 AM Mick good idea! [thumbsup] [thumbsup]
Heather look into asking a wheel repair/ engineering company to do a repair. [thumbsup] $1900 sound like a good excuse for some nice after market wheels. I would look on the 'for sale' section of the forum. You would definately find a rear wheel from the US at a more than reasonable price. Rob [bacon] Title: Re: Wanted - Rear wheel Post by: brad black on August 29, 2008, 05:05:58 AM i think we (moto one, not wanting to assume you know where i'm from) may have a new 5 spoke wheel from an ss at work. it'd need the larger bearings and spacer to suit the 1000m, but i think otherwise it'd work. you'd need to ring and ask tony.
Title: Re: Wanted - Rear wheel Post by: Spider on August 31, 2008, 04:32:29 PM Heather,
spoke to Bob Brown yesterday - he has nothing but will check a few of his sources. Rang Euro they have a silver rear for $660 - however he mentioned that they had that the m1000s runs a different rim than all other 2000 era monsters. can you go into more detail as to that comment at the start about 04/05 ST. the 2006 part is refering to the fact the model changed to SSS / s2r1000 in 06 right? Bob Martin et al have fixed some really badly damaged wheels over the years O reckon. ;D It would have to be worth taking the wheel in for them/someone to look at??? Firstly thanks everyone for the enthusiastic responses. I phoned the shop again today as they never call me when they say they're gonna. Got some more info. Apparently I have a 'rare' monster 2005 1000s. Wheels for this model were only made in 2004/05. They fit the monster and 04/05 ST3 only. Hence expensive replacement. Service manager in Melbourne cannot source a 2nd hand wheel in Oz. He previously pooh poohed the idea of machining/sleeving - I discussed it with him again today - the bearing shattered and has etched the inside of the wheel so don't know if it can in fact be machined but he has now agreed to look into it for me. So if anyone has any experience of good engineering in Melbourne, I would appreciate the info. You want to ring and have a chat with Peter?
Heather - where is the bike & wheel located? and you backed up what the Eurobrit guy was saying that all the monsters except your year/model can use the rear wheel. technical term = bugger! Title: Re: Wanted - Rear wheel Post by: madalf71 on September 04, 2008, 06:29:47 PM Madalf on the case.
Yes will speak to Manta, have some really good contacts. Heather could you pm me with details of where I can view the wheel? And or some photos. I'll need to see it before asking about repairs. I'd reccomend following Brads suggestion as well. Cheers Alf.H. Title: Re: Wanted - Rear wheel Post by: heatherp on September 04, 2008, 07:37:22 PM pm on it's way (I hope) let me know if it didn't work.

Title: Re: Wanted - Rear wheel Post by: madalf71 on September 06, 2008, 04:17:16 AM Hi Heather.
Had a look today after coffee with the boys. No good news I'm afraid, it's a bit too far gone. I will get a second opinion, but think it will be the same. Full details in pm. Cheers. Madalf. Title: Re: Wanted - Rear wheel Post by: Spider on September 06, 2008, 02:51:54 PM Mad - if you have the wheel - after Peter take it to Brad and that way they can put the old next to the new.
Title: Re: Wanted - Rear wheel Post by: madalf71 on September 07, 2008, 03:46:21 AM Yes Sir Spider.
Don't have wheel, but have another lead maybe. Currently under discussion. Cheers. Madalf. Title: Re: Wanted - Rear wheel Post by: heatherp on October 16, 2008, 05:10:37 AM Well 3 1/2 months later - I finally got my bike back today. What a drama it turned out to be. Ended up getting the 5 spoke Marchesini wheel and gettting it painted. Then the bearings were too skinny and needed spacers made up. yadda yadda yadda.
So happy today to go down to Melbourne and finally ride it home. It's all tucked up in the shed getting reading for Turismo now. Special kudos and thanks to Madalf, Spider and Brad for scrutineering, shopping, advice and chats. I owe you fellas big time [drink] [drink] [drink] Next time I'll buy a more common bike. Hoping to catch up at either Turismo or in Melb one day soon. Also Spider if your reading this - like your "just got outta bed" look!!!! Not shabby at all. Title: Re: Wanted - Rear wheel Post by: Spider on October 16, 2008, 12:18:55 PM your welcome Heather!
that 5 spoke is lighter/better too I bet! the 3 spoke Brembos are boat anchors apparently. and thanks, it's hard to even look at myself in the mirror some mornings but after a concerted effort I can scrub up OK, I guess! ;D (I wonder in the girls of OzMonsters would be so successful finding good looking girls? yes, is the answer. Those pictures are of the world's highest paid male model and prettgy much no one knows who he is!) Title: Re: Wanted - Rear wheel Post by: Betty on October 16, 2008, 01:51:57 PM Congrats Heather, enjoy the Tourismo.
Now see it wasn't that hard [roll] didn't take long at all [roll] [roll]. Time to forget about it and have a some fun [moto] Title: Re: Wanted - Rear wheel Post by: brad black on October 18, 2008, 09:48:45 PM what was the wheel out of that you got fitted?
Title: Re: Wanted - Rear wheel Post by: Spider on October 18, 2008, 10:09:48 PM what was the wheel out of that you got fitted? what do you mean Brad? She rides a 1000s (so she must be dead-set sexy) and the new wheel was a grey 5 spoke from a place called Moto One in Oakleigh, perhaps you've heard of it? ;) The wheel was discovered by some, ah, brilliant bloke, if my memory serves me correct!
