Title: Random Help / Question?
Post by: SR1K_Femme on August 29, 2008, 04:23:46 PM
Does anybody here own an S2R and have the Termi setup, and or the Arrow?  I'm still debating which I want to go with.  And for me it's not for the performance, but the sound.

Anyone, anyone, Buehler?!

Haven't heard the Termis on an S2R, but Ryan had the full Arrow system with CF cans on his S2R800... dang, that sounded schweeeet.

My only other experience with the two have been on different bikes... generally speaking, Arrows were louder.  All depends on what you prefer... the Uglystrada I test rode had an Arrow system on it, and it was obnoxiously loud... so much so that I won't buy a Multi with that system (or I'd trade the system away).

I gotta say though, the Arrow full system for the S2R is the better looking system, IMO.  [thumbsup] Then again, when it comes to looks take my opinion with a rather large grain of salt... I do ride a Supersport, after all.  [cheeky]

I have an S2R and have the QuatD ExBox... LOVE IT!!  Totally cleans up the tail, sounds great and stuff... and things... Had it painted flat black to match the bike... :)

Nice!  Haha.  I'll have to reconsider your opinion then eh, oh supersport?!  I'm not looking for 'Hey i can set off car alarms 8 blocks away', it's more the rumble I'm looking for.  Ugh, hard to explain.  There is a bike around NW that I heard and it was the true 'Ducati' twin rumble. That's one of the reasons I fell in love with the Duc.  That is ONE sound you can't get from an inline!!

Well "Nikita", you'll have to take a poll around here because I can't recall what feedback I've gotten (if any) from the DMF... but a bunch of my family and friends all love the sound my 900SS makes.  It's running carbon Ducati Performance high pipes made by Remus.  From where I sit, they're loud enough to be heard without being obnoxious.  Dad has followed me (him on the CBR) and he liked it too, but my brother Dave thinks they're really loud (Dave rides a 675 Daytona with stock pipe; he also avoids riding on my right-hand-side, because he claims the clutch noise is unpleasantly loud during on/off throttle transitions and at stoplights).  Note that Dave doesn't wear earplugs when riding.  I can't remember, but I think Dad might (for the wind noise more than anything).

Chuck's cored cans are really loud, louder than other cored cans I've heard.  Makes that 620 sound a heckuva lot bigger than it is.

Ryan's S2R800 was nice (with the full Arrow system), and not too loud from what I can remember.  But I only rode with him once while he was on the S2R, IIRC.

Dave's (Salty) Arrows are unusually quiet & restricted.

Billy's bike's exhaust sounds great.  I think his are cored stockers, aren't they?

Generally, I find that metallic canisters are hit-or-miss.  Carbon mufflers seem to provide a consistently great sound.  Deep and mellow, loud enough to be heard, but not obnoxious.  Some aluminum, stainless, or Ti cans match this, but nowhere nearly as consistently.  My guess is it has to do with the material properties, and CF is probably absorbing more of the high-frequency "crack" that separates good loud exhaust from obnoxious loud exhaust.  BUT... CF cans are not ideal if your bike sits out in the sun a lot.  Once they fade, they're faded, and there's no bringin' 'em back.  My bike is not a daily-rider.  Tried that for a while... realised I was hurting the paint and carbon by letting it sit in the sun for 9 hrs a day, and work is only a 6 mile ride.  Wasn't worth it, so the bike sits in the garage during the workweek and I commute by car (until now... got a free bus pass from work for September... we'll give this "mass transit" thing a whirl...).

The Spark cans from Desmoworld are awesome and look super clean. You can get them in stainless, carbon or black and in round or oval.  Really great sound too. I had them on my S4RS and loved em. They also make them for the S2R bikes.

My S2R 800 has termi slipons, open airbox, and dp ecu. It sounds sooooo good. I'm going to get the midpipe after the new year so it'll sound even deeper.

I still think that Arrows are the only way to go when you got them stacked shotguns that the S2Rs have. Sexy and they sound good.... hmm...... Deep and throaty [evil]... my lil porn star.... I miss her....    :'(

Hey Nikita-

I'm saving my pennies for the full system, too.  Getting really damn close.  On any given day, I can change my mind between Termi's and Arrows, but I believe I'm leaning slightly towards CF Termis:

1.  It's the traditional, original Ducati trademark boomer sound.
2.  Sounds awesome.
3.  Looks killer.

But, dang it, the Titanium arrows are just smokin' hot, too.

It's gonna be a close race till the finish line when I whip out the debit card at the bike shop to place the order.  As of right now, I think the CF termis will win by the smallest margin in a photo finish.   [thumbsup]

And with carbon, you can warm your fingers on your cans on colder days without the burny sensation of metal seeping through your gloves. [thumbsup]

And she sounds even better now w/ about 2K miles added since this was done...  [evil]  Not too loud, which I like that The Vixen could hear me coming home the other day from a block away... :P

Hope this helps...

Well I talked with the guy at "monsterparts.com' and we had a discussion about what's out there, yadda yadda.  I'm definitely going with CF, since as many of you know via owning them, or hearing about it, they do muffle out the 'tinny' sounds and only leave the more bass-y notes.  Gotta love expensive plastic, vs metallic bits. :)

Heard Adam's S4R at MC tonight when I picked up my bike.  It sounds bad ass, but then I could barely hear the damn pipes over that clutch.  Grr.  But from what I did get, it was very similar to the sound I'm looking for.  Not to mention.  THE UDDER WAS GONE!!!  As Midwest as I am, I believe my Monster should not model the farm animals of my younger years.  Lol.

Yes, CF mufflers sound awesome.  ;D

And yeah, you gotta get rid of the udder.  This pretty much sums up my opinion of that ugly thing: [puke]

Not to ignore Marvel... the Quat-D ExBox looks bad-A.  [thumbsup] I think because it's shaped like... well, a stylish motorcycle part, instead of looking like a malignant tumor.  And I do loooove how much it cleans up the tail of the S*R-series bikes.  I haven't ever heard one in person, though (and I trust no video + PC speakers to make that determination), so I dunno whether I like their sound.

I call it a subtle rumble... and the look is unmistakeable!  Hopefully we'll make a trip to PDX or some of you will come to visit us and you'll get to see/hear the goodness... :)
