Title: How loud are you now? Post by: Desmostro on September 02, 2008, 10:50:34 AM While sitting in the profound silence of Tomales Bay, 2 high revving twins barely visible, cracked open the silence and roared south on Hyw 1. From across the bay, I could only see the riding position was exactly that of a couple of Monsters.
A little smile crept across my face as I listened to the march through 3 gears, back down 2 for the turn and up 2 again in unison. It was astounding how far the sound traveled. (http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3041/2822473194_8910f8a218_o.jpg) WHO WAS THAT? I Saw Duqette in Inverness; CharliesAngel, Vindingo, and a flock of others in Point Reyes gassing up. A broken radiator kept me on the beach instead of the saddle this weekend. Glad you guys looked like you were having an epic day! Title: Re: How loud are you now? I went to Drakes Bay Oyster Farm a couple of weeks ago for the second time (first time CharliesAngel took me) and you cant really beat eating oysters 10 yards from where they are pulled out of the water. I had the pleasure of shucking 2 dozen oysters for my guests, which just adds to the fun. I'd be interested in an oyster run again Title: Re: How loud are you now? Post by: CharliesAngel on September 02, 2008, 04:58:58 PM Went out that way for a loop on Saturday with LabbeDDS and some other folks. Beautiful day... on the way back, we took 1 through Stinson Beach and saw a car towards the top/direction Mill Valley. The car had had gone up the side of the mountain and flipped over on its roof - glad that the motorcyclists weren't too close to that thing...I don't understand how some people drive here...not like there weren't ten million twisties that led up to that turn ???

A little smile crept across my face as I listened to the march through 3 gears, back down 2 for the turn and up 2 again in unison. It was astounding how far the sound traveled. Well here's one theory as to why it sounded so loud: Sound is usually a line of sight traveler. If it meets an object, this will deflect part of the sound in another direction. Trees, hills, houses and other objects keep the sound from traveling great distances over land as they "absorb" part of the signal. On water, there are minimal objects to deflect the sound and it travels greater distances. ....and here's a longer, more accurate version if you wanna really geek out: http://www.mnresponsiblerec.org/previoussite/resources/sound.htm (http://www.mnresponsiblerec.org/previoussite/resources/sound.htm) Title: Re: How loud are you now?
