Title: Living in a Ducati desert Post by: Danmack_98 on September 02, 2008, 05:49:00 PM I live west of Chicago, IL in the Sterling/Rock Falls area. To my knowledge, there is one ducati within a twenty mile radius(there'll be 2 when mine gets here). Seeing one is like seeing a Ferrari (also rare here). I had to drive almost 2 hours to the nearest dealer to order mine. I'd like to know what your area's like, whether it's duc heaven or a desert like here. Thanks for the input.

I know many of you live in an opposite world, but I'm wondering how many of you are the only, or one of the few duc owners in your area (a bright light in a dark world). Thanks for the input! same here i live in a small town 80mi SW of indy the closest Duc is like 30mi awayTitle: Re: Living in a Ducati desert Post by: DoubleEagle on September 02, 2008, 06:40:58 PM Saw my 1st Ducati ( that I could be sure that was a Ducati ) since I got my 1st one a year ago last April.
I was in disbelief . 1st of all it was Tangerine Orange and it didn't have any decals . It was a 948 that had been repainted and the guy lived in a town near where I live. I kinda liked being the only Ducati in these here parts . Always got alot of interesting looks and felt like I was the " smart one " so to speak. Well I really don't mind if a whole lot of Ducatis show up ,but I don't think that is going to happen. I can see it would be a problem for someone looking for some Ducati buddies but for me I'm satisfied to ride by myself and practice my semi RoadRacing skills in the " hills ." I was at a gas station a couple of days ago and a dude on another monster pulls up next me. I say "whats goin on dude" and all I got back was a blank stare.
tons of Ducs, every kind you can imagine, everywhere... I have seen a desmo 5 times now I think Title: Re: Living in a Ducati desert Post by: ghostface on September 02, 2008, 06:55:31 PM I live west of Chicago, IL in the Sterling/Rock Falls area. Title: Re: Living in a Ducati desert Post by: Bbrent on September 02, 2008, 08:30:56 PM I'm about 40 miles south of Seattle. Where I live I see only one 848 and thats only because he works with me. If you drive up to Seattle you will see many Ducatis of every flavor.
Title: Re: Living in a Ducati desert Post by: Big Troubled Bear on September 02, 2008, 11:01:48 PM Not to many monsters here in Gauteng South Africa, way more SBK`s, it`s a culture thing over here, sbk`s are way more popular than naked bikes [thumbsup]
Title: Re: Living in a Ducati desert Post by: factorPlayer on September 02, 2008, 11:39:01 PM yeah I think you'll naturally see more in bigger cities, especially on the west coast.
Here in Austin we have our share but they are still relatively uncommon compared to other brands. Local dealership has been going strong lately though [thumbsup] Title: Re: Living in a Ducati desert Post by: arai_speed on September 02, 2008, 11:47:39 PM I live in LA and I see them almost everyday, 1098s, Monsters of all shapes and colors. In my neighborhood I know of 2 Monsters a few blocks away from my house plus a few others I've seen in the area. Not Monster related, but Josh Herrin (http://www.yamaha-motor.com/sport/racing/08_josh_herrin_flash.aspx) lives about 2 blocks away from my house. I see their RV parked on the street when they come out to the West coast races or are there on summer break.
Title: Re: Living in a Ducati desert Post by: T. Rush on September 03, 2008, 01:23:26 AM Living in western Mass. I'm in the midst of Harley haven. Even though there is a Ducati dealer a town away the only other monster I've seen was at the dealership. Tried to find the owner but must have dropped off the bike for service. I did take the MSF with a kid whose father had a small collection of ducs including, (I was told), an Indiana.
Title: Re: Living in a Ducati desert Post by: CairnsDuc on September 03, 2008, 01:59:12 AM I live in Cairns in Northern Australia, there are a few older Monsters running around, as far as I know I have the only S2R 800 up here, and there is only a couple of S4R and S4Rs and maybe 2 S2R 1000's running around up here, but they are a few years old, and most are not well cared for (Mechanically looked after, but cosmetically they need a bit of TLC)
The previous Ducati dealer sold HD, Triumph, KTM and Suzuki, they didn't care about Ducati. (I went in to buy a 695 and he tried to convince me to take a Harley instead [bang] ) The new Ducati dealer is great, but the only Monster people want to buy is the 696, they can't keep up with demand for 848/1098/1098s and 1098R. Hopefully with the 1100 motor arriving in the Monster, that might put a few more on the road up here. Title: Re: Living in a Ducati desert Post by: Capt baz on September 03, 2008, 02:35:17 AM desert here, in the nutmeg state(se ct). with the arrival of nakid to the area, it is the only other one around that i see. there may be others, but i never see them & i'm am always around.
Title: Re: Living in a Ducati desert Post by: Slag on September 03, 2008, 03:49:01 AM Here in DFW we have hundreds. It is cool to have 15 or 20 together in a group outing.
Title: Re: Living in a Ducati desert Post by: the_Journeyman on September 03, 2008, 05:54:08 AM The local dealer is about 30 miles away. There's very few in the small town I live in. 1 Monster, and 1 996 is all I see around on a regular basis ~

I used to get all excited when I saw another Duc in my area, but I've come to realize there are a lot of us around here!! Not that that's a bad thing.. ;)
Title: Re: Living in a Ducati desert Post by: Le Pirate on September 03, 2008, 06:28:29 AM closest dealer? 2 hours
I've seen 1 hypermotard parked outside Hastings (book/movie store) one day....never could find the owner. I hear word there is some kid who just bought a 848 around here (and promptly had it kicked over in a bar parking lot...sorry dude). There is also a S2R, but the guy who bought it is a total douchebag...and looked at me like I was crazy when tried to talk to him. From my visits to SF I can attest that they love motorcycles. Not just italian bikes, ALL kinds of bikes there. Title: Re: Living in a Ducati desert Post by: fasterblkduc on September 03, 2008, 07:41:25 AM I'm in Minneapolis...lots of Ducatis here. It's common to see two or three daily. Two local Duc dealers.
Title: Re: Living in a Ducati desert Post by: Duc and Cover on September 03, 2008, 08:19:09 AM The DC area has a disproportionately high amount of Ducatis. It's kind of sad because they don't feel as exotic to me anymore. It's also fun though because it makes for a great local Ducati chapter. I'd like to send a shout-out to CAM, woot, woot!
Title: Re: Living in a Ducati desert Post by: triangleforge on September 03, 2008, 09:30:39 AM Lots of motorcycles of all flavors here in the highlands of Northern Arizona, enough that our daughter's Jr. High math teacher wheeled his GSXR literbike into her class and made it into math problems & nobody batted an eye. Of course, four out of every five of those bikes is a Harley. Still, enough Ducatis in residence and passing through that I see another one every week or so. And one of our locals & his wife own about half of one percent of the entire Cagiva Gran Canyon population in the states (two), along with two very slick Monsters.
And a friend down in Skull Valley just picked up a Hyper, but an almost immediate felony speeding charge has him wondering if it's the bike for him... Title: Re: Living in a Ducati desert Post by: MendoDave on September 03, 2008, 12:12:27 PM I think you should move to a place where there are more Monsters. Maybe Chicago?
Oh, Even though the nearest dealer is 2 hours away from where I live, there are a few monsters here on the North coast, and a few more inland, as well as some other Ducati's that are around. I know of an 848, a 749, a Bayliss, a Paul Smart, and a GT1000, a couple of Super Sports and an old kickstart 750. Title: Re: Living in a Ducati desert Post by: DucHead on September 03, 2008, 04:21:30 PM It's well known that the number of Ducatis in a particular area is inversely proportional to the popularity of NASCAR and pro wrestling in that area. ;D
On a serious note, there are quite a few Ducs in the Triangle (Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill). Not to mention you live in a decent sized city, tucked neatly into the middle of nowhere. We have one certified dealer and a total of three shops willing to wrench Ducati here, though you still don't see too many on the road. The dealer has had the same 10 or so Ducatis on the floor for about 6 months now, I can't imagine he moves too many. I think 2 or 3 Monsters, and a couple of 848s. Hell, the dealer can't even get rid of the used S2R1K with full arrow and airbox he has.

I know of a guy who has four Ducs, but he is a collector and never rides them. the only time I've seen other Ducs on the road here is when a few of us got together to go to Thunderbeach. It was great, 6 Monsters and 30,000 Harleys. [laugh]

Title: Re: Living in a Ducati desert Post by: sbui on September 09, 2008, 06:31:51 PM Hey just thought most of you guys would get a laugh out of this one. I'm in Arkansas, as what I know of right now. I'm the only guy in the 100 mile radius that has a Ducati. she's a 97 M750 and have been enjoying her since I got it back in April.
Last year did get a chance to see a yellow 996 that someone was going to sell, but don't know where it went. The closest dealers to me are in OKC, or Kansas city. Isn't to bad, but it surely is barren where I'm at. I wish there were other Ducati riders here that I could meet up with.
