Title: Moving & Demolition
Post by: Duc and Cover on September 02, 2008, 08:48:05 PM
WARNING: This is another solicitation for manual labor.

Here's my deal: I'm moving 6 blocks from my posh little condo in Logan Circle to a full rowhouse in Shaw. I'm picking up my dad's Super Duty stake-body Thursday night, and then Friday morning I'm moving all my stuff into one room of the new house. Then for the rest of the weekend I am filling up the truck with as much stuff as I can rip out of the house. I'm knocking down walls, pulling up carpet and tile, ripping out old fixtures, and hopefully laying new sub-flooring. I don't have a solid plan yet, I just know I want to get as much grunt work done as possible this weekend while I have the truck. Then over the next few months I'll actually put together some sort of design plan and go to builder's auctions and various home improvement stores to pick stuff out for filling the house back up (If anyone here is in the business of selling anything home-related, I'm probably in the market so PM me with what you've got)

My contractor and some of his minions will be there drinking Coronas and making sure I don't do anything stupid like knock down a load bearing wall without reinforcing it first, but any extra hands from Fri-Sun would certainly be put to use. I could also use a lookout to keep an eye out for those pesky people that go around putting Stop Work Orders on people's windows :) PM me if this sounds like fun to you, or even if you just want to stop by and see the mess I'm making. I'll provide food and beverages.

The world is your oyster. All I ask is that the tools remain in your hands for the safety of others. I take that back, you can throw sledge hammers and bowling balls as long as they are tethered to your ankle by a chain no longer than 10ft (OSHA standard).
