Title: Check Engine LIght on new 696- Post by: MyPetmonster on September 04, 2008, 08:30:24 AM While out riding last night, my check engine light came on. My bike only has around 500miles on her and hasn't even been to her first service...So, I pulled over to shut it off for a few, when i restarted and pulled up to a stop sign the engine shut off. It started right back up with the light off - While riding home the light kept came back on and kept going on and off. It felt like it was running smoothly and sounded fine....
Ducati roadside is picking her up to bring her to the dealership today, im not happy :( Anyone hear anything about problems with '09 696's? Other advice? Thanks! I was hovering right around 600 miles and I had intermitten check engine light sightings. The dealer said they couldn't do anything about it because when I took it in a week later for the 600 mile service it was fine.

Title: Re: Check Engine LIght on new 696- Post by: Mugen939 on September 04, 2008, 12:22:54 PM Doesn't sound like it's a big issue. Just make sure the dealer checks that the bike doesn't have the reversed wires on the coils. Most likely a connector came loose though. The fact that it would start right up and run fine leads me to think it's an electrical issue. I.E.: connector of some sort.

At the 600 mile service the tech told me that there were some wires that were mismatched and needed to be switched. Apparently there was a service bulletin issued. This may be the cause, but your service tech will be able to fix for sure. Where do you ride? If not too far, wanna ride together?

The bike was picked up this afternoon and is currently at the shop so hopefully i will get her back sooner than later. As for riding, i live in Nj, all the way on the other coast :-\ Title: Re: Check Engine LIght on new 696- Post by: gearhead on September 04, 2008, 04:55:03 PM Personally it would bother me but I bet it's nothing.

Didn't realize that you live only ~3000 miles away from me. I guess we'll never ride together. BTW, from what I can see through your helmet, I think you are cute. Ride safe. Keep an eye out for a light relay problem. Seems to be rare as there is not a bulletin but was verbally passed on to the techs here in SoCal last week. Happens around 600miles. Your lights go out, check engine light goes on, bike works fine otherwise. Oh and if you use the little switch to change the info on the display, it will tell you what the check engine light means, at least it will try. You then check the manual. Should give you a really basic idea of what might be wrong. Seen your pic on the other board, i'd say you're way more then just cute [thumbsup] [evil] [moto] Title: Re: Check Engine LIght on new 696- Post by: MyPetmonster on September 12, 2008, 07:36:41 AM Hey Petmonster Keep an eye out for a light relay problem. Cant be sure, I did not get a chance to talk to the tech when I took mine in, the service guy mentioned it. He did not have details only that my symptoms, like yours, had surfaced on some 696s. Since it's not a service bulletin, you have to ask about it and hope that your techs paid attention in the briefing. All I know is mine showed it had a light relay problem, soon after, it blew the fuse for the lights. The techs fixed both in about an hour and I happily rode home, with lights. From what I've been told it means time to take the bike in for its 1st service. It's hard-wired, so even if you do the service ahead of time it will automatically come on at 621 miles. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.Title: Re: Check Engine LIght on new 696- Post by: r_ciao on September 12, 2008, 12:45:09 PM Mypetmonster,
That little wrench is telling you to take your baby in for the 600 mile service. When you took your pet in for the O2 sensor, did you also do the 600 mile service? That service will cost ~$200 and takes 1 1/2 hours. If you already did that, I guess you have to take the bike in again for the techs to turn it off. Ride safe this weekend. Title: Re: Check Engine LIght on new 696- Post by: MyPetmonster on September 15, 2008, 07:56:31 AM The dealer did the first service while they were fixing the O2 sensor
....I'll stop by this week for them to turn in off. Gracias! :) Title: Re: Check Engine LIght on new 696- Post by: r_ciao on September 15, 2008, 01:38:47 PM Curious. What did you dealer charge you for your 600 mile service? [moto]

TS pull joystick up to see what error bike gives you when CHANGE ENGINE light comes on. Title: Re: Check Engine LIght on new 696- Post by: Mhanis on August 25, 2013, 04:56:25 AM Um, do you guys realize that until today that the last post in this thread was five YEARS ago??
