Did you see there are higher mount holes on the termi brackets? I'm dying to try these out, but I need the short tail kit first. Owen Title: Re: new 696 mods Post by: Murdered Monster on September 04, 2008, 10:59:23 AM I like, I like!! Where did you get the handlebar? Is it the same feel as the stock one? Hard to change over everything. I love the new turn signals too. [thumbsup]
Title: Re: new 696 mods Post by: lazarus7 on September 04, 2008, 12:24:33 PM hmmmmmmmmm............
no, i didnt notice the higher mount points, thanks for the tip...;) will try them later this evening, got a family thing early... looks like a simple switch tho, should be enough room in the joint to allow for the slight upward curve.... rizoma stuff i get from www.pjsparts.com most everything else i get from motowheels or my local dealer... Title: Re: new 696 mods Post by: livefastdiefun99 on September 04, 2008, 02:08:06 PM How much did the front and rear turn signals run?
Title: Re: new 696 mods Post by: lazarus7 on September 04, 2008, 04:19:43 PM DP billet turnsignals were $130 USD per pair......
theyre TINY....!!!!! looks SO much better..... Title: Re: new 696 mods Post by: NekkedChic on September 04, 2008, 04:32:38 PM NICE NICE NICE!!! Curious about Rizoma bars tho....I wanna swap my stocks for something with a little more rise, puts me a bit more upright, less reach cuz I'm such a SHORTIE, and something that will roll levers back more so I can keep wrists more parallel-with stocks, have to bent wrists forward a bit and on top of reach-ouch.
Considering puttin on hubbies stock Speed Triple bars to see if they do the job, but REALLLLLLLY luv ur Rizomas and in RED on my white 696 would be nice touch, IMHO....Any suggestions, advice for me??? TKS and CONGRATS-bike looks UBER HAWT! Title: Re: new 696 mods Post by: lazarus7 on September 04, 2008, 06:10:15 PM those rizomas are a straight swap,
and DO have quite a bit more rise/ reach to them.... definitely puts you in a more upright/ back position the control pod on the right hand side, the starter button pod, needed to be rolled SLIGHTLY upward so that the bars completely clear the tank indents on both sides as cleanly as stock.... no probs, a clean straight bolt-on.... do 'em, youll love 'em.... Title: Re: new 696 mods Post by: NAK3D696 on September 04, 2008, 06:53:04 PM lol great minds think alike [beer] Im installing the tail chop kit this weekend. How much trouble was it? Love the clutch lever , what brand are they?

levers are crg roll-a-click's, got them from motowheels.com theyre really nice; ive got pazzos on the s4rs an speed triple and theyre just as good.... Title: Re: new 696 mods Post by: desmoworks on September 05, 2008, 05:08:04 AM Looking really good!

OHHH tks SO much! [thumbsup] Title: Re: new 696 mods Post by: rsy on September 05, 2008, 08:58:09 AM Just wondering how much sh*t you get to your back/helmet on wet/muddy roads after that tail chop ? Title: Re: new 696 mods Post by: lazarus7 on September 05, 2008, 11:02:58 AM Nice. Did you see there are higher mount holes on the termi brackets? I'm dying to try these out, but I need the short tail kit first. Owen (http://i35.tinypic.com/34ytxdw.jpg) took about 30 min this afternoon, when i could see better... it took loosening both mounting bolts on each carbon canister, where the L bracket mounts the cans to the frame, to allow enough play to move the cans upward and forward slightly to meet the higher mounting point on the hanger.... its a small/ subtle change, not a dramatic as you might think.... judge for yourself....;) Title: Re: new 696 mods Post by: lazarus7 on September 05, 2008, 11:06:14 AM hrmmmm thats kinda tiny to tell the difference....
heres a link to the fullsize before/after pic..... http://i35.tinypic.com/34ytxdw.jpg Title: Re: new 696 mods Post by: nkryptit on September 05, 2008, 12:20:47 PM Just wondering how much sh*t you get to your back/helmet on wet/muddy roads after that tail chop ? Wonder no more...Quite a bit...I rode home from work for lunch, it was a bit moist from some earlier rain... I had to change my pants and shirt (because some of it was sticking out from under my jacket) before I headed back. Title: Re: new 696 mods Post by: nkryptit on September 05, 2008, 12:22:42 PM (http://i35.tinypic.com/34ytxdw.jpg) took about 30 min this afternoon, when i could see better... it took loosening both mounting bolts on each carbon canister, where the L bracket mounts the cans to the frame, to allow enough play to move the cans upward and forward slightly to meet the higher mounting point on the hanger.... its a small/ subtle change, not a dramatic as you might think.... judge for yourself....;) That is not much difference at all...Oh well...Looks beautiful either way! Title: Re: new 696 mods Post by: MOUSEMAN on September 17, 2008, 08:19:27 AM OHHH tks SO much! [thumbsup] I tried to have my dealer put on some Pro Taper bars, but the wires and cables were too short. I also am a shorter rider and in need of risers or bars. The Rizomas look great. Will try them eventually.Title: Re: new 696 mods Post by: NekkedChic on October 08, 2008, 05:00:42 AM those rizomas are a straight swap, and DO have quite a bit more rise/ reach to them.... definitely puts you in a more upright/ back position the control pod on the right hand side, the starter button pod, needed to be rolled SLIGHTLY upward so that the bars completely clear the tank indents on both sides as cleanly as stock.... no probs, a clean straight bolt-on.... do 'em, youll love 'em.... and enuff cable lines/room??? Brake lines look plentiful tho. Title: Re: new 696 mods Post by: lazarus7 on October 08, 2008, 10:23:53 AM plenty of line for full turns lock to lock with no binding.....
piece of cake. ;) Title: Re: new 696 mods Post by: geoffduc on October 08, 2008, 11:53:26 AM it's looking good Lazarus, now how about rizoma grips and bar ends to really finish it off.called in at ducatimanchester today and they have in stock a pearl white hyperretard, looked quite nice but i prefer my own red retard.also in stock a pearl white multi,it looked BIG.
BTW your toy box is getting really full. [thumbsup] Title: Re: new 696 mods Post by: j|rz44 on October 09, 2008, 11:45:37 PM quick Q on the exhaust..
how do i get the baffles out? the nut is spot welded on and the bolt is tight squeeze... need a special tool? thx and nice bike [thumbsup] Title: Re: new 696 mods Post by: dutchy73 on October 10, 2008, 08:07:14 AM quick Q on the exhaust.. how do i get the baffles out? the nut is spot welded on and the bolt is tight squeeze... need a special tool? thx and nice bike [thumbsup] The bolt has an allen head... It's just one holding the baffle in, so take the bolt out and use a pair of needle nose pliers to remove it. Make sure you mark which baffle comes out of which can, just in case you want to put them back in for some reason. Title: Re: new 696 mods Post by: j|rz44 on October 11, 2008, 12:59:27 AM got it, thx man ;D
Title: Re: new 696 mods Post by: lazarus7 on October 11, 2008, 06:31:48 AM oooh , youre gonna love the way they sound....!!!! [evil]

I am having a guy knock off the Rizoma's in thick guage Ti unless someone knows of a better brand/set to dupe? He is charging me $200 for the set. If anyone else is interested let me know, and perhaps we can get a bulk discount. Nothing rides like Ti [beer] Title: Re: new 696 mods Post by: lazarus7 on October 16, 2008, 05:04:00 AM regular, which IIRC is 22 mm....
the difference between regular and conical bars, and hence the name, is that conicals are larger in diameter in the center, clamping area, to fit a larger riser/ clamp for a stiffer overall bar.... for example, my s4rs had a conical bar, the 696 is a traditional bar, which i BELIEVE is 7/8", 22mm....... replaced this one with a standard 7/8 22mm rizoma red billet.... and as to the knockoff TI, this bar has a great shape, perfect reach and rise for a more relaxed and upright riding position... Title: Re: new 696 mods Post by: Jimmy Ducati on October 16, 2008, 05:25:27 AM Thanks Laz!
I ordered my custom Ti bars today. The guy said he will bend them tonite, and have them shipped tomorrow. I will post pix when I install. Title: Re: new 696 mods Post by: NekkedChic on October 17, 2008, 01:00:32 PM Hiya Lazarus!! ;D
My SO finally swapped bars today (put stock Speed Triples on Monster 696)-all went smoothly, as you suggested, and feels MUCH MUCH better, even just in shop/drive. [clap] He rode it, able to do super tight turns (he thinks) better than w/stock bars. I was going to ride today-still may no matter how brief, and will let you know what I think they "feel" like. BUT, in swap, having small issues with control with "Mode" button ??? Seems he may have over tightened clamp, so 'Mode' button not smooth and would not return on own. He loosened clamp, better but still not quite right. Anyone know/familiar with this-some plastic button issue or??? TKS [thumbsup] and always and, if I really luv bar swap, looks like I know what I will get for XMas (Renthal highbars RED of course) ;D How u feeling, btw? [popcorn] Title: Re: new 696 mods Post by: lazarus7 on October 18, 2008, 08:04:03 AM cool, glad youre more comfortable riding now... [thumbsup]

Or are they just the standerd 22mm bars?
Thanks Title: Re: new 696 mods Post by: lazarus7 on October 27, 2008, 01:42:22 PM dis is dem right dere.... ;D

[thumbsup] [thumbsup] [thumbsup] Title: Re: new 696 mods Post by: Craig Thomas on October 30, 2008, 06:03:39 PM Are there 1" grips available for the 696? I miss the feeling of that full grip on my old bike. Thanks. [leo]
Title: Re: new 696 mods Post by: lazarus7 on October 30, 2008, 07:18:37 PM i BELIEVE any grips will work....
the tapered bars are larger in the middle/ clamping area for increasd stiffness.... i think the grip diameters are both the same.... Title: Re: new 696 mods Post by: duc996 on October 30, 2008, 09:20:20 PM I like the handlebars, wonder if they have diff colors.Nice bike BTW.
Title: Re: new 696 mods Post by: BaZgA on November 03, 2008, 05:59:49 AM (http://i35.tinypic.com/aku5j7.jpg) red rizoma handlebars Hi Can you send picture with handlebars in far left or right side so I can see where it touch side panels? Did you have any problems with length of cables or any other problems TNX Title: Re: new 696 mods Post by: lazarus7 on November 04, 2008, 06:13:21 AM i do not have any problems with the cable lengths anywhere,
free steering from lock to lock..... no binding.... as youll see, the control pods are TIGHT on the tank but do not make contact even with moderate pressure on the bar ends.... and would be even less of an issue if you rotate the bars up/ forward 1/8 inch or so..... clearance is VERY tight and certainly could rub under motion/ suspension movement but not enough apparently to cause even slight cosmetic smudging.... ive got no issues with this setup. [thumbsup] (http://i36.tinypic.com/2pzd1n5.jpg) (http://i33.tinypic.com/2afcvty.jpg) Title: Re: new 696 mods Post by: fletch696 on February 02, 2009, 12:05:34 PM Lazarus7: So I was out in the garage this weekend attempting to put on the Rizoma bars, but I don't have enough slack in the cables. Did you have to pull or reroute anything to make room?
Title: Re: new 696 mods Post by: hcomp on February 02, 2009, 03:41:40 PM i do not have any problems with the cable lengths anywhere, free steering from lock to lock..... no binding.... as youll see, the control pods are TIGHT on the tank but do not make contact even with moderate pressure on the bar ends.... and would be even less of an issue if you rotate the bars up/ forward 1/8 inch or so..... clearance is VERY tight and certainly could rub under motion/ suspension movement but not enough apparently to cause even slight cosmetic smudging.... ive got no issues with this setup. [thumbsup] If they do hit, you can always adjust the steering stops out a little bit as well. That will give you a little bit more clearance on the tank, but you might lose a dgree or two of steering angle. Title: Re: new 696 mods Post by: lazarus7 on February 02, 2009, 07:51:24 PM no, those are all stock cables and lines,
just have to wiggle some stuff around a bit.... ;) Title: Re: new 696 mods Post by: fletch696 on February 09, 2009, 06:11:52 AM So if anyone is reading this and wondering. The Rizoma 22 mm bars will not work with the windscreen. You have to use the black cap, or cut the windscreen. The bars are not long enough to clear the reservoirs.
