Title: Re: Group ride up to Napa or the Coast (depending on how hot it gets) - SUN, Sep. 14 Post by: Desmostro on September 04, 2008, 05:36:10 PM YES! This is what I did last week. It was brilliant and comfortable the whole way.
Forecast - though a ways out, looks sunny and perfect. We should be excited for the lingering Summer! PS bike fixed. I'm in [thumbsup] If you're worried about the heat, start early (as planned) and head inland first. Then take a coastal route for the latter half/return, and enjoy some of the cooler air off the Pacific. Maybe we should start putting all that on a map. That's a lot of text to figure out & I don't know 1/2 the road's names. Title: Re: Group ride up to Napa or the Coast (depending on how hot it gets) - SUN, Sep. 14 Post by: Desmostro on September 06, 2008, 12:45:13 PM My [moto] neighbor Mert, is coming as well [thumbsup]
cool, we'll tweak the map a bit and post it. Title: Re: Group ride up to Napa or the Coast (depending on how hot it gets) - SUN, Sep. 14 Post by: hypurone on September 06, 2008, 04:35:19 PM I got the map info from Charlie and tweaked it to reflect the road we call the Goldmine Rd (I believe it is actually Knoxville Rd) and sent it back to her. The Inland route "naturally" ends up near the wine tasting area you wanted. The coast route we can shorten up a bit and get back in to Petaluma around 2-2:30. From there it's only 25 mins over to the Carneros area...
Title: Re: Group Ride to Napa - Sun., Sep. 14 Post by: hypurone on September 08, 2008, 09:12:53 AM I checked weather.com again today and now they are calling for 90 degrees inland, 70's on the coast. Sounds like a coast run to me!
Title: Re: SUN, Sep. 14th - Group Ride to Petaluma/Ocean/St Helena Post by: Jammen on September 10, 2008, 06:29:20 PM Sweet! Looks like I'm in for this one!
Title: Re: SUN, Sep. 14th - Group Ride to Petaluma/Ocean/St Helena Post by: hypurone on September 12, 2008, 09:41:20 AM Guys/Gals. Rich called me today and said the fog has been pretty heavy up his way and has been taking a long time to clear. This usually means fog at the coast in copious amounts and may not clear at all. With this change, the weather reports have once again changed to mid-upper 80's for the inland route.
What say you all? Go to the coast and risk it? Go inland and ride the Goldmine Rd?!! [moto] We would get thru 75-80% of the ride by 1pm and have just the run down the canyon and over thru Angwin left, as the temp gets to their high range and you guys head off for your taste/spit. Lemme know so I can call Rich Title: Re: SUN, Sep. 14th - Group Ride to Petaluma/Ocean/St Helena Post by: smducman on September 12, 2008, 09:56:34 AM Everyone have fun and post some pictures . Sorry we missed everyone we missed. It was a bit of a confusing start. Having arrived to the start point without our main contacts we ended up inventing a ride adhoc. It was amazing and just kept getting better. We ripped, we swooped [moto] , we zoomed all the way to Healdsburg the long way. It was a mixture of very tight technical through deep forest on glassy smooth new roads, and bumpy high speed sweepers through endless ranches. In Healdsburg, we ate like pigs including a pile of truffle oil cooked french fries with shaved parmigiana. Ya, we kind of thought wtf - fries? But they were the best fries ever. Then we went wine tasting in the cool dank stores of a nearby vineyard - saving our cooked butts from the heat of our ride. Great little vineyard - mom/pop style. They treated us well, showed us around and let us check out their process. Perfect day. 7 hours of riding. That ride is going on the definitely 'do again' list. [thumbsup] Title: Re: SUN, Sep. 14th - Group Ride inland to Middletown/Pope Valley/Napa Post by: DucSteve on September 14, 2008, 07:42:08 PM was up in that area today as well. did 121/128, whatever else you take up to calistoga, then headed to skaggs, few laps up there, then to some town 10 miles away for some BBQ. Then back down 128. fun stuff, im tired as hell

We ran with Jay, Jason & John(Reddymon) and had a killer ride. John said there was a fourth with them that bailed?? Oh well, ya missed out. John gets the iron-butt award for his marathon from San Jose-ish!! Weather was awesome once over into the Napa Valley, we had an awesome cup-of-joe at our fav stop in Calistoga, then blasted over the hill into Middletown and out 175 to Bottle Rock and around to Lower Lake. Quick break for gas & a pitt stop and the best road of all loomed ahead.... Goldmine Rd!! Let's just say it wasn't even close to being legal. ;D Even worse on the way back when i was leading [evil]. We humped it back into Middletown and had some grub at Perry's. Jay split off there. We ate and blasted down the canyon and over thru Angwin. Here is the only pic of the day as my camera's batteries took a dump, of course! >:( Well hey, it's better than my bikes' battery taking a dump! Sorry for that Stephanie...

[thumbsup] Met up with Jason for a drink after your ride and got the details - really sorry that I missed meeting Hypurone and Rich and seeing Reddymon again! Heard you guys had a FAST ride ;D

That sounds really cool. We got to try to hook up again. We had a blast too, but I can' t imagine what we missed. We were too busy riding to photograph much. Here's us - we got to crush some grapes with our feet. Not really, :P but we got to feel the hot grapes fermenting. Then we had a flight of 15 wines. That was great. (http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3047/2864185374_57cd1bf48e_o.jpg) They flew the Jolly Roger proudly. They said AAAAArrrrrrggh a lot, and there were peace signs on the grape crushers. They were self described as pirate-hippie winemakers. First off, when I started riding with the people on this board I was told to ride my own ride. Meaning, even if your 5 min behind everyone else it's ok, do the ride at your pace. They can wait. After a while you'll get faster, but take it at your own pace and have fun. That's how alot of new riders go down, is trying to keep up. They're either really focused on the other rider's lines or riding faster than their skills can compensate for. The 696 is an awesome bike, take er easy, if you want to ride in two weeks let me know, have finals this weekend but following weekend I'm clear. Did you get boots/textile pants yet?

Keep in touch and I look forward to riding with you folks again!! =) Hey Orangettes! How's it going? Glad you barged in. That was a blast! Everyone, meet Orangettes from So Cal. Our latest transplant. Black Monster, faaaaast Monster. We've got to hook up with the rest of these guys and do it again. Not going to happen for me this weekend though. I got warning lights I've got to figure out >:( (Computer says, 'Fan Relay warning.' Hopefully a small thing, and a quick fix. Italy is open again, it's Sept.) Soon, we ride again! Mert is up for it too. Title: Re: SUN, Sep. 14th - Group Ride inland to Middletown/Pope Valley/Napa Post by: Labbedds on September 22, 2008, 04:21:56 PM +11ty billion!
