Title: Tourismo O8 Post by: Dockstrada on May 08, 2008, 02:50:04 PM Anyone going to the tourismo this year ???
Title: Re: Tourismo O8 Post by: techno on May 08, 2008, 05:40:05 PM I'm trying my best to be there.
Aren't we having a national monster meet or something around that time? Its not like I can find the previous thread. Title: Re: Tourismo O8 Post by: Super T.I.B on May 08, 2008, 06:43:24 PM Same thing.
We were going to try and start a National Monster Meet but thought it would be better if we just went to Tourismo as everything is already set up. Title: Re: Tourismo O8 Post by: R_usty on May 08, 2008, 07:08:19 PM Anyone going to the tourismo this year ??? I am aiming to be there - all green at the moment! Title: Re: Tourismo O8 Post by: Dockstrada on May 08, 2008, 07:34:29 PM I am aiming to be there - all green at the moment! Are you riding the whole way or just Rusty ??? Title: Re: Tourismo O8 Post by: mattyvas on May 08, 2008, 09:23:24 PM I was also aiming at being there.
Not sure about riding all the way. Maybe from Melbourne across. Title: Re: Tourismo O8 Post by: Dockstrada on May 08, 2008, 09:28:59 PM I was also aiming at being there. Not sure about riding all the way. Maybe from Melbourne across. Let me know Matty I also have plans not to ride the full distance mo:t: Like i said in my last post on the ghost town forum I plan to drive to Mel and ride the rest of the way wt: Title: Re: Tourismo O8 Post by: mattyvas on May 08, 2008, 10:00:26 PM yep will do, but I think this might be the best way to go.
A good ride through the Great Ocean Road etc.... Think that's what I'll be doing. Title: Re: Tourismo O8 Post by: Dockstrada on May 08, 2008, 10:02:20 PM yep will do, but I think this might be the best way to go. A good ride through the Great Ocean Road etc.... Think that's what I'll be doing. Pretty much what i want to do will be meeting Big Al there and then heading to Adel wt: Title: Re: Tourismo O8 Post by: mattyvas on May 08, 2008, 10:03:57 PM Cool lets do that then.
Have you book the Turismo yet? Or will you wait until later in the year? Title: Re: Tourismo O8 Post by: Dockstrada on May 08, 2008, 10:06:26 PM Cool lets do that then. Have you book the Turismo yet? Or will you wait until later in the year? Already pre booked wt: Title: Re: Tourismo O8 Post by: techno on May 08, 2008, 11:09:42 PM Do you mean pre booked or registered? I registered by email with whoever is running it. Apparently they send something out by email a few weeks before.
Today I got given some of the various Australian Ducati owners club mags. Some of them have reports from lats years Tourismo so if i learn any tips I'll get back to you. Apparently they send something out by email a few weeks before. Today I got given some of the various Australian Ducati owners club mags. Yes pre regirstered via email wt: Title: Re: Tourismo O8 Post by: R_usty on May 09, 2008, 02:33:43 AM Yep - I am pre-registered too! No accom as yet but there is plenty of time - One word of advice to those new to a Turismo - When you get the e-mail outining the ride and the towns e are stopping in book the advised accom FAST! You get good rates and you get to stay with your (new) mates as well as your old mates. That way you get all the fun - both daylight hours and night time excursions!
As to riding down - no way - I will probably send my bike down to Melb and ride over via the GOR and Grampians (depending on time) - and then fly back from Adelaide and send the bike back from there! You will end up doing nearly 2000 klms during the Turismo alone and they are fast and furious so I can guarantee that by the end of the ride I plan I will be stuffed ;:| (not so young anymore) Take as little clothing as you can and use the offered truck to take your bags every day - It costs about $100 and you drop your bags off in the mornings at the briefing and pick them up at them end of the days ride - really nice not to have too much shit on-board the Monster when you are doing 500+ k's. Put new tyres on before you go otherwise you will only be able to get what the Bridgestone truck has avail - Good thing is the Ducati trunk and the tyre truck follow the route so if you have a problem they assist! I will probably hook up the the DOCNSW crew and there will be around 30 or so from DOCNSW. It is a great social occasion as well as a great ride! This is where NFI really do a great job and they really spend up big making this event worthwhile. I have to say they do an excellent job! wt: The evenings are great fun and you get to talk bikes with 300+ other Ducati riders - it is just FUN! dr:: Title: Re: Tourismo O8 Post by: Dockstrada on May 09, 2008, 02:39:13 AM Rusty you dont seem to be sluring your words any more you must be of the medication now [cheeky]

[cheeky] But really looking forward to the Turismo! mo:t: Title: Re: Tourismo O8 Post by: mattyvas on May 09, 2008, 03:00:40 AM Just done my pre-registration via the 2008 Turismo site
Cool, excited already. Title: Re: Tourismo O8 Post by: giannig on May 09, 2008, 06:05:38 AM Last year was my first tourismo and I had a ball. I am planning to go again but not sure of the logistics of getting there yet
Title: Re: Tourismo O8 Post by: goldFiSh on May 09, 2008, 01:08:54 PM Why not ride down?
OK I can understand the Rs riders not wanting to stop every 150kms, but any other reasons? I ask only due to the fact that my opinion on long distance riding changed after the trip to PI. Consequently I am much more comfortable (and confident!) about doing 700 or more klms a day and backing it up day after day.. Good riding gear and comfortable seat make it a very enjoyable affair..... And it's not like the trip between Syd and Melb has to be all straight boring highways? Title: Re: Tourismo O8 Post by: monstermick58 on May 09, 2008, 03:15:59 PM Regarding the Bridgestone truck, Craig, who owns/runs it had a really bad prang at Eastern Ck, and as far as I know is stillin hospital, so we will see what happens, and the Turismo is our national meet and greet (gosh that sounds so old) so it looks like I will have to pre-register.
Mmick Title: Re: Tourismo O8 Post by: Dockstrada on May 09, 2008, 10:34:02 PM Regarding the Bridgestone truck, Craig, who owns/runs it had a really bad prang at Eastern Ck, and as far as I know is stillin hospital, so we will see what happens, and the Turismo is our national meet and greet (gosh that sounds so old) so it looks like I will have to pre-register. take 2 teaspoons of cement and harden up you lot!!! too many latte's!!!!! paul. Title: Re: Tourismo O8 Post by: R_usty on May 10, 2008, 12:57:18 AM i'm hoping to make it, and if i do i'll be riding there and back. take 2 teaspoons of cement and harden up you lot!!! too many latte's!!!!! paul. Just so that this is clear - My S4RS can get over 200k's per tank when doing country riding so I can keep up with you lot!!!! :bang (+I can put on a 38 tooth rear and 15 front and get even better millage). Then if I had time available (ie 3 weeks) I would ride there and back but that is about a 4.5-5,000k trip and I just don't have the time to do this. The great ride would be to ride down through the Snowy's then over Hotham (great fun!) and down through Gippsland and on to Philip Island before getting to Melb. Stay a couple of night's at Spider's place (enjoy some real coffee - short macchiato at Brunetti in Carlton, just off Lygon street - Oh and some Italian cakes). Then I would head done the Great Ocean Rd stopping in West Geelong - (Botticcelli Cafe for some great food). Then I would haul ass along the rd and go to Port Fairy for a night before heading into SA via the best wine region in the world - The Coonawarra! :wine But hey, I'm off to Laguna Seca MotoGP on a 10 day ride from LV to Laguna via Sequoia and Death valley on an S4RS and then back via Yosemitie so I just don't have the available credits with the wife and kids to spend another 3 weeks in the saddle - So bike must go via truck and I will take a week or so off to do the Turismo! (Just thought I would rub that little one in!) So you can take that little bit of concrete and, well you know..... dr:: C U all there in Melb or SA! Title: Re: Tourismo O8 Post by: mattyvas on May 10, 2008, 01:05:41 AM For me it's not the Latte's
(drink tea not coffee) It's the time off, working for yourself is great but time off costs money as well. Title: Re: Tourismo O8 Post by: Spider on May 10, 2008, 01:34:44 AM Stay a couple of night's at Spider's place (enjoy some real coffee - short macchiato at Brunetti in Carlton, just off Lygon street - Oh and some Italian cakes). sure...good plan....how about coffee at St Ali in South Melbourne and then a ride along the esplanade to Brighton where a new bakery has set up, Andrew Barrett, he does amazing pastries and toured a 916 around the country. Title: Re: Tourismo O8 Post by: R_usty on May 10, 2008, 01:49:28 AM sure...good plan....how about coffee at St Ali in South Melbourne and then a ride along the esplanade to Brighton where a new bakery has set up, Andrew Barrett, he does amazing pastries and toured a 916 around the country. Title: Re: Tourismo O8 Post by: Big T on May 10, 2008, 11:52:02 PM Following the S4RS brigade he would make more cash selling gas rather than coffee..... [laugh]
