I'll update this post with more details once I'm done. Title: Re: Syd ride 27th Sept Post by: Jukie on September 04, 2008, 10:52:49 PM oooh wow what a nice bike, cant wait to meet her finially another girl yes yes yes .

Let me know if you want/need company on the reccie run. Unless you and the Girly are taking a "Romantic" ride out. I could come out Tue/Wed/Thur next week. Title: Re: Syd ride 27th Sept Post by: Dannog on September 04, 2008, 11:57:43 PM I'm interested. I haven't introduced myself though.
Is there a secret hand shake that I have to learn or is the invitation open? Title: Re: Syd ride 27th Sept Post by: Jukie on September 05, 2008, 12:02:43 AM post in the oz monster introduction thread

Let me check my work schedule >:( and find out if I am or not working, otherwise I am in for my last bachelor ride. :'( Title: Re: Syd ride 27th Sept Post by: mattyvas on September 05, 2008, 02:32:14 AM Well you didn't say but last time when i didn't put you down I got sent to the Head Masters Office...

I just hope I'm not rostered to work. :P Title: Re: Syd ride 27th Sept Post by: MonsterDorf on September 05, 2008, 03:05:14 AM I'm in, hopefully have a new chain by then :)
Title: Re: Syd ride 27th Sept Post by: Betty on September 05, 2008, 01:25:14 PM There is interest, but .....
We have a late night the night before and the time it would take us (or me at least) to get to the start point would preclude us from attending anything early. So if it is a breaky run, we probably wouldn't be able to make it. Title: Re: Syd ride 27th Sept Post by: Richie on September 05, 2008, 03:33:55 PM Im in

Title: Re: Syd ride 27th Sept Post by: craigo on September 18, 2008, 01:10:20 AM Did a recon run on this today: It's a pretty sweet run.. Getting to the top of Mount Panorama took about 2.5 hours from the Rouse Hill Caltex (@speedlimit+GST). Spent half an hour on top of the mountain doing laps (at the signposted speed limit of course). From there went down into Bathurst for something to eat and then off to the loop around the back of Tarana and Lake Lyall (this took about another 2.0 hours). Return trip from Lake Lyall via Great Western Highway was somewhat painful (half it felt like 40Km construction zones or school zones) to about Eastern Creek on the M4 took another hour and a bit. It may be better to avoid this altogether and return via Bells Line..
So with a larger group, I reckon round trip time would be about 7.5 hours including fuel stop and lunch. You could probably shorten than somewhat by avoiding the Tarana run on return if there was time pressure. I'll post updated maps and stuff shortly. Dam 7.5 hours :o may ass hurts already :'( Title: Re: Syd ride 27th Sept Post by: craigo on September 18, 2008, 02:19:34 AM 7.5 hours is sort of a worst case scenario. I did it in about six hours all up; I'm just adding 1.5 hours for fuel stops for testastrettas and time for Andy's steak to cook ;).
It's seriously worth it for the Mount Panorama laps. They are painting all the walls and the track and surrounds are already being prepped for the V8 Supercar race. Those dudes have massive kahunas, the track is *way* tighter than it looks on TV. The Cutting, the Esses, and Forest Elbow are frikkin hairy, even at 60 Kms an hour. Title: Re: Syd ride 27th Sept Post by: mattyvas on September 18, 2008, 02:31:33 AM Actually it's been ordered and cooking already.
It was an extra double rump am I correct, well done also. Title: Re: Syd ride 27th Sept Post by: Big T on September 18, 2008, 02:46:47 AM Dam 7.5 hours :o may ass hurts already :'( Bring it on. Looking forward to the ride. Andy. Title: Re: Syd ride 27th Sept Post by: mattyvas on September 18, 2008, 03:50:52 AM Yeah me too looking forward to getting out over the Mountains.
Title: Re: Syd ride 27th Sept Post by: craigo on September 18, 2008, 04:56:57 AM Proposed Route (http://tinyurl.com/3r7h2p)
Mapref Section: Distance: Notes: A -> B Windsor Road Caltex -> Lithgow Servo (99 Km) Gas for Testastrettas. Watch out for the final downhill run into Lithgow (tricky tightening ratio steep downhill left hander) B -> C Lithgow -> Mount Panorama (70 Km + laps ;)) Potentially high [leo] presence on the hwy between Lithgow and Bathurst. C -> D Mount Panorama -> Food/Servo (5 Km) Lot's of food choices. Gas for All D -> G Bathurst -> Lake Lyall via Tarana (50 Km) 1.3 Km dirt section, sections of single subway road (ie single lane with dirt edges). Watch the nasty left hander over crest just prior to Lake Lyall (Big Yellow Left Hand arrow painted on Road). G -> F Lake Lyall -> Split (30 Km) Route back down out of the mountains from here depends on the where you want to come out (Windsor/Richmond side or Penrith/Great Western Hwy) Matty: sorry this route doesn't include the Hawkesbury Lookout (it's sorta of on the way back, either that or you have to skip the best parts of Bells Line *up* the hill to get to it..). There a a gazillion other good photo opps though, especially at Mt Panorama or Lake Lyall. Super TIB (or someone else that did the previous breaky run): The way that I got to Lake Lyall via Tarana is almost all backroads from Bathurst.. I think it's a pretty neat run, but I'm unsure if you guys have a better way. I am going to check tomorrow to ensure that they will not have closed public access to Mount Panorama next week in preparation for the race ('cause that would *seriously* take the fun out of it). I'll update with further info as it comes to hand. Title: Re: Syd ride 27th Sept Post by: Dannog on September 18, 2008, 02:51:15 PM I'm really looking forward to heading out on my first run with U guys. I drive over Bell's line of road all to the time to get to my parents property and always wanted to do it on 2 wheels.
Need to seriously watch out for the blue lights between lithgow and bathurst. At that time of the day when we'll be travelling, they'll be sure to have radar traps on it. Bells line of road is usually very clear of the fuzz so we should be able to get into the twisties bits around Mount Tomah. It'll be awesome hitting the throttle on the apex as you head up these hills. ;D Title: Re: Syd ride 27th Sept Post by: Super T.I.B on September 18, 2008, 05:56:12 PM Just warning you all as I think Craigo said, the Bathurst 1000 is held on the 9th-12th October.
You "may" be OK with going around the track, but I'm not too sure how long out from the race that they start setting up. :-\ Title: Re: Syd ride 27th Sept Post by: craigo on September 18, 2008, 07:22:19 PM They are already setting the track up (painting the track walls, planting and watering grass, grooming the kitty litter etc). I just spoke to Bathurst Police and they advised that they close the track to the public on the Tuesday prior to the race, so we *should* be fine. [moto]
Title: Re: Syd ride 27th Sept Post by: craigo on September 21, 2008, 07:50:48 PM Based on discussion with some of the folks at Ducati Concourse on Sunday, a 9:00 departure seemed to be the general consensus. This allows plenty of time for the Coasties (north and south) to make their way out west to the Rouse Hill Caltex.
I'm thinking the timing will go something like this: depart Caltex Rouse Hill Depart 9:00. Arrive Mount Panorama 12:00 (many will arrive a little earlier than this, 12:00 should ample time for the tail and sweeper to get there). Photos/Laps Mt Panorama Depart 12:30pm. Lunch in Bathurst Main St Depart 1:00pm. (short lunches are better imo, i'd rather be riding) Fuel at Bathurst Caltex Depart 1:15pm. Lake Lyall Loop Depart Lake Lyall Dam viewing area 2:30pm. Back over the mountains This should take about an hour and a bit, contingent on traffic on Great Western Highway, expect to be riding past Eastern Creek at ~4:00pm. Depending on where you want to end up (northside or southside), it may be worth crossing back over to bells line and coming down that way. If return time is an issue, you can simply skip the Lake Lyall Loop section and save yourself about 45mins-1hour by returning via the expressway to Lithgow. Does this sound OK to everyone? Any questions or suggestions let me know and I'll see what I can do! Title: Re: Syd ride 27th Sept Post by: Big T on September 21, 2008, 10:54:46 PM Sounds bloody good to me..... Title: Re: Syd ride 27th Sept Post by: MonsterDorf on September 22, 2008, 04:06:51 AM OK, where can I meet up?
How about at the Shell servo @ Clarendon opposite the RAAF Base on Windsor Richmond Rd? I guess you'd take no more than 30min to get their from Rouse Hill - that means I need to get out of bed NLT 0920 :) Title: Re: Syd ride 27th Sept Post by: Betty on September 22, 2008, 02:23:16 PM OK, where can I meet up? It shouldn't take us longer than 20 mins to get to Richmond. If you wait on the left near Richmond Airbase, you'll definitely hear us coming and you can just join up as we ride past.

So I put my bike in the get new tyres today. Awesome. Pilot Powers. I was excited... until... I get a call about 12:30. It was the workshop. A massive crane or something has fallen over onto the building next to where the bike workshop is*. The whole building has been evacuated, my bike is currently sitting on blocks, with the wheels off, with the new tyres half fitted to the rims. The police and firies won't let anyone into the building (even to just drag the bike and the wheels out). Depending on how long it takes to get the crane back up (and they need a *bigger* crane to do that) and ensure the area is safe etc, I might not even get my bike back today. And the workshop is closed Sat/Sun. So the earliest I will see it is may be Monday mid morning... So I may be out of Bathurst *and* out of the track day... Murphy is a bastard. *not sure if anyone was injured. I hope not because it makes my sooking about not having my bike look weak. Wouldn't have thought it would be too much of an issue to lift the crane (depending on how big it is) .... but time is no longer on your side. The biggest issue will be the make-safe - but if it hasn't touched 'your' building it could be OK. ..... and I s'pose they clock off early on Fridays. How does Steph feel about having a big lump of a pillion tomorrow ;D should slow her down enough for me to keep up. Title: Re: Syd ride 27th Sept Post by: craigo on September 25, 2008, 09:39:51 PM Gah! Looks like I am definitely out. Just went down and had a chat with the coppers on point duty, they reckon that it could be A WEEK before they can dismantle the crane. They are bringing in some uber 450t crane from Newcastle this weekend and once that is in place they can start CUTTING UP the fallen crane. But the crane can't leave Newcastle till after peak hour because it's too big or something. The chick from the bike shop reckons it maybe earlier than that, but definitely not prior to Monday. [bang]

Now I'd better clean my bike as the chain is dirty and my front wheel has dust on it! We even did some "dirt road" :) OK phase 1 of clean complete - now where did I put Mr Sheen? Title: Re: Syd ride 27th Sept Post by: mattyvas on September 27, 2008, 12:34:05 AM Glad you all had a good day, how was the laps of the Mountain?
Any of the local [leo] to spoil the fun. Had a full day helping Vince finish the trailer. She's all done now, ready for loading tomorrow and the track Monday. Now go find that Mr Sheen Mick and give the chain the once over. Snaps anyone, I'm sure Big T has taken some. Title: Re: Syd ride 27th Sept Post by: Betty on September 28, 2008, 12:18:34 AM Was a great day with the "Dirty Half Dozen" (6 of us)...... ..... some dirtier than others. Thanks for the ride everyone. A few things of note: . approx 500kms for us and we finished up about 100km from home . only one of us was shit-scared coming down through the top of the mountain (and yes it was me) . don't like dirt roads . if you think you are over a hangover, don't ride a bumpy road with stiff suspension ... motion sickness with a helmet on is not good . when that time of the day arrives when you have to kneel and pray to mecca, don't leave your helmet on your seat ... they explode on impact . riding without a visor is not good . when your S4RT runs out of petrol on the test ride around the block ... it is a sign of things to come . agee with Andy that the trip up the back of Mt. Vic is great fun ... two lanes each way, divided road with lots of twists - all roads should be like that . Andy got some road kill on the way home ... and he was eyeing off a woolly mammoth off in the paddock, obviously starting to feel a bit peckish after lunch Title: Re: Syd ride 27th Sept Post by: Jukie on September 28, 2008, 01:16:14 AM great pix big t , jukie i like what youve donr with your hair ;D yes i actually have had it cut, i was just too tired and with hangover to take my helmet off, too much of [wine] and ended up doing [puke] Title: Re: Syd ride 27th Sept Post by: Dannog on September 28, 2008, 03:23:50 PM Thanks all, had a great outing and looking forward to the next one.
Bells line of road was probably even better coming home than it was in heading west. Trev., I missed you when you turned off on Windsor Rd. Turned around to see you weren't there but clearly you had enough go juice to get home. |
