I decided to remove the stock side panels.  It took about an hour of relocating wiring and harnesses (that must be a really good hiding place since most of the Monster's internals are visible).  I am just curious if anyone has any tips on weather-proofing the wiring (or if it even neccessary)?  Even with the panels on, it was all open to junk coming up from the rear tire. 

not necessary, the panels are purely cosmetic, they afford no weather protection at all.

I was going to do this last week but couldn't really figure out where to stick those harnesses and things.  Are you able to take some pics or describe where you stashed everything?  Without lengthening some of the wires, I couldn't figure out where I could put everything.

i have done this on both a 620 and an s2r1000. its not too hard, and well worth the effort if you want to run without the panels
trace the wires back to the nearest connection. then disconnect and reroute them. you should have no problem finding enough slack to hide them.

I will try to get some pics when I get home in the morning.  No lengthening required, I actually has more of an issue with to much length.  It took some trial and error, but everything ended up tucking away nicely.  I was a little extra cautious around the shock/rocker area. 

Did you move the coil?  Where did you put it?

I did some wire-hiding this weekend, and I did something that I haven't seen specifically mentioned here.

I removed the side panels and re-routed the wires to the tail-light underneath the seat, and over the top of the regulator; however, the seat would not go back onto the bike b/c the plastic piece on the under-seat cover that sits right behind the regulator (see blue arrow in pic below) was being blocked by that wiring that i moved.  so, i simply took a hack-saw and cut out a ~ 3-inch hole in that plastic piece, and then the seat popped right on.  wires out of sight.

this is very simple and i'm sure there's a way to do this without any cutting, but i need a lot of hand-holding and in all my searching on here didn't see a lot of specific guidance on re-routing wires.  thought i'd post it for other amateurs like me.  ;D

PS - obviously that prevents me from using the under-seat storage, but i never use it anyway

Removed mine a year or two ago and many thousand miles and I haven't had a single issue with weather.  Just make sure and take your time, and like someone said pay attention to the suspension linkage and make sure nothing gets kinked up in there.  As far as the coil goes (if I recall) I zip tied it to a bit bunch of other wires just to the left of the suspension rocker arm under the tank.  If you do it right, there's lots o extra space. 

I pretty much just routed the wires where they will not be seen if the seat was on, and hid what ever possible behind the trellis frame.

forgive my ignorance, but where is the regulator on your bike?  isn't it typically mounted behind where your PC is? (see pic from manual below)  thanks!

It's been relocated.  It's been flipped, and mounted under the PC3.  It's slightly visible in the pic.

ahhh.  got it.  so many possibilities that i have yet to explore!
