Title: Your favourite ride and ride suggestions. Post by: brimo on September 06, 2008, 01:56:17 PM Wanted to contribute to the thread a bit more in "show us your ride", but didn't want to jack the thread too much, anyhow.....
Quote from spider >> Interested in the Wodonga - Corryong - Towong - Tintaldra - Bungil Albury loop - bout 200km of nice riding I've heard.<< Think about going over the top through to kiandra to cooma if you've got a bit more time or for an overnighter, the road down past Eucumbene has some of the best sweepers, one of those roads where you can just see the twisties disappearing in to the distance.... It was a few moons ago now but some mates and I did that run, then to Canberra and Coffs Harbour, then back down the coast, pambula, lakes entrance, then home to melb, I do recall the ride around near wollongong as being pretty good too. Cairns, Gordonvale, up the Gillies range to Atherton, across to Mareeba, Mareeba to Kuranda, Down the Kuranda range back into Cairns I leave about 5am Sunday to get a clean run up the range (Early morning person anyway) watch the sunrise while riding the range. Used to have brekky at Maccas in Atherton at about 6:30, now they don't open until 7, so they can get make the beast with two backsed! half and hour across to Mareeba, then roughly an hour back to Cairns, should be shorter, but by that time the Kuranda range is starting to go slow due to the tourists and the go slow Nazis dropping the speed limit to 60k's. 8 to 8:30 back in Cairns to avoid the tourists coming out on the road (Rental cars scare me worse than Volvo's) Fuel up and then toddle off home. Once the tourists hit the road up here they ruin all the fun, they refuse to pull over on the ranges to clear the masses of horn beeping/light flashing cars behind them, they drive 20 to 40k's below the speed limit, they drive the wrong way around round abouts, They think they can go through any intersection with reckless abandon and without giving way to traffic because "My Indicator was on!!" Post by: Spider on September 07, 2008, 11:02:42 PM I reckon if you have a picture of your bike (ride) or a journey (ride) that it's cool if you post it in that section (don't think I've put a photo of my bike in there because I have an entire thread full of shots).
so written and google maps in here....photos of your bike in locations in the other thread? Sound Cool Was on this brilliant little country road from Bena to Poowang (in Gippsland - I don't make these names up!) and stop the bike i the middle of the road for a shot just to find that the battery was flat! Title: Re: Your favourite ride and ride suggestions. Post by: ellingly on September 08, 2008, 12:03:10 AM I'll make some maps, but:
1. Short run around Canberra would be over Mt Mac (aka Cotter Hill) and up to the end of the sealed bit o road, and back. 2. A cotter run is another good one, but nowadays more [leo] 3. The Kings Highway. Last 40 km into Batemans. Lovely. 4. A bit further afield, but the run up and over Hotham from Bright is awesome. Back in Tassie: 1. Grasstree hill 2. Waterworks Road / Ridgeway Park 3. Huon Road -> Channel Highway loop 4. Up the East coast 5. Most of the good bits of the west coast, ignoring the lack of fuel availability and the fact the place is always wet |
