Anyone available to answer some simple questions about my ipod nano?
I don't understand how it sets up the playlists. Have saved the songs from the library into two playlists, neither of which I can view on the nano. Oh yeah, in my frustration, I deleted the playlist that is hooked to the computer, so I can't update the MFer [bang]
just to think, five years ago I was programming in Java, now I'm dead in the water!!! (where's the icon with the 'L' over the forehead?)
With iTunes 7.7
Attach the iPod, it should appear on the left of iTunes under devices.
Click it, there should be a screen with a tab labeled Summary displayed.
Click the music tab and then select the items to Sync.
Then click the sync button on the lower right.
Voila??
Sounds like what I'm looking for. Thanks!!!!! I'll try ti tonight when I get home. :)
if you don't want to use the syncing....which I don't...there is another way.
you just drag and drop the playlist onto the ipod, but make sure you have the music on there already.
sometimes it works without the music on the ipod already, sometimes not....
I would also try to avoid letting itunes organize or even touch your music. I let it "sort" my collection once and I'm still working on retagging and sorting everything. I've narrowed syncing down to a pretty simple process. Keep in mind, this is all Windows. Someone else will have to chime in for Mac.
Make sure your itunes library is empty
Open up your music Windows explorer windows
Choose whatever tracks/albums you want on your ipod and just drag them over into the itunes window
Once you get everything set up in itunes, you can drag the songs (within itunes) into whatever playlist folder you want, or you can create a new playlist folder.
Hope that helps. +1 on Le Pirates suggestion. Anything to avoid itunes overall, but you still have to use it to add music and to create playlists. Oh, and don't worry about not being able to understand itunes. I've been a pc tech for years and I barely have the tiniest grasp on the friggin thing.
New playlists aren't a problem - getting them into the nano is. My understanding is that I'm not making the playlist in the right area.
Don't want to get rid of my library. Just make the primary playlist that is hooked to the player.
Somehow, the playlist that I deleted was identified as the one to update - and not that it's been unlinked, I can't figure out how to link it again.
Maybe I'll look at summary, and see if I can figure out the term to get the nano to recognize the other playlists.
Sync not available. It's grayed out.
I'm screwed. Guess I'll go look for forums, or re-load the thing.
"I am not happy!"
you *might* be better off just going ahead and doing a full restore.
That's an option...
Thanks!
Off topic a little. I was paging through my wifes "O" magazine when I came accross an ad for a "gadget" that plugs into the iPod and vibrates and gyrates in synch with whatever music is playing!!
Be gentle with the puns...
Lauramonster, PM me or give me a call if you wanna walk through this. I had to deal with tonnnnnnns of customers in your position at my old job. +1 on reformatting, first and foremost.
