Title: Forever in the area, New to Ducati
Post by: Dirteagle on September 08, 2008, 08:21:10 PM
 [moto]

Hello everyone,

New to the Ducati scene, but and old hand on bikes. Only had my endorsement for 37 years but was riding dirt long before that. I listed my current rides in the intro section, so I won`t repeat them here. I`ve met a few folks through Moto Corsa, haven`t made any rides yet. Had my new ride for 3 weeks now, luv it! Have 1,775 miles on it, ready to rip. Looking forward to some group rides and meeting more folks. I have the only Ducati in the Tillamook county, that I know of. Maybe someone else is out there and will contact .

Here are the current mods;

de-stickerfication and reflector removal
Full Termignoni System, no baffles(ECU and Open Airbox)
14 tooth sprocket
Carbon Fiber Rear Hugger
Tailchop
SpeedyMoto: 10 Spoke Clutch Cover,Shirobi Pro Pres.Plate(Gold), SS Springs and Red Caps
SpeedyMoto: Billet Spocket cover (Black and Red)
Rizoma Reverse Retro Black Mirrors and Red Bar ends
Billet Oil Filler Plug (Gold)
STM Frame Plugs(Gold)( modified CF side covers for clearance)
Clear Alt. Smoke Turn Signal Kit
SpeedyMoto Frame Slider
Cox Racing Radiator and Oil Cooler Guards( modified splash guard for this)
DP Carbon Fiber Tank Protector
Pazzo Shorty Levers( Gold w/Red adjusters)

That`s all I can think of right now , more to come.

Insanity knows no bounds for the truely motorcycle addicted.
Someday I should compile a list of all the bikes I`ve owned, oh the memories.

That's right, I'm in Tillamook County.  Pacific City.  I run a B&B in town, so riding in the Summer is a challenge, I'm free for about 1 hour a day.

PM me if you want to ride.  [moto]

Hey Mister-

I think we met at the Shell station in Vernonia over the weekend, didn't we?  Your Tricolore is absolutely a fantastic looking bike.

I really like the geography up in them thar hills.

We will post up next time we ride up that way and we can hopefully meet up.

Welcome to the nut house!  ;D

Okay everybody... as if Mike's B&B wasn't enough reason... now we really need to make a group ride out to the coast.  There's a really twisty road I see on the map that goes from Carlton to Hwy 101: http://tinyurl.com/Route-To-Coast

Dunno if it's any good, but it looks like 46 miles of twisties.  [evil]  Anyone know if the pavement is any good?

Is it just me... or when you zoom in with the satelite view... doesn't it look gravel to you??? Maybe I am just leary of roads through there since my BMW buddies took my on a crap ass gravel road through there on the Monster and I didn't have enough fuel to turn back... so I had to keep on going....

I know HWY 101 wasn't great where I was last week (Cape Kiwanda Inn), road was real tore up. Not sure what road I was on going out there (I believe it was 6 going into Tillamook), but it was pretty decent.

Hi All,

Yes, that was me you met in Vernonia at the shell, nice to put a face to a name JohnnyDucati. I`ll post up next time I head that way. Good to hear from you bnbmike, so i`m not the lone Ducati in Tillamook county. we`ll have to hook up for a spin around the area.

A group ride sounds great BibleBoy. I travelled the Beaver to Carlton road a couple of times each summer on my R1150gs BMW.Although I haven`t hit it this year. Ryandalling spotted the reason why I use my Beemer. About a mile or so of gravel right in the middle. Both ends are great fun for an in and out run. The Carlton side is way smoother road than the Beaver side. But, fun on either end. The middle sucks, not my pick for a through ride on my monster, just my 2-cents from experience.

Hwy 53 and the Miami River Rd are great fun down in this are. They lead me to lots of crooked stuff on Hwy 202 and Hwy 47 (Jewell, Mist ,Vernonia area). Other roads all over between Salem and the Forest Grove/ Hillsboro area also.  Pick a meet location, time and potential path, or let our sticks float where-ever thay go.

Any ride is better than no ride!

Yup.  I can confirm there's quite a few miles of gravel on that route - found it the hard way.  Was headed west from Carlton.  The gravel occurs at about the 1/2 way point, just prior to the road going towards Willemina.  I wimped out and turned back . . .

I can call you Betty and when you call me you can call me Al.

Oh, and that road is a bit dirt - not much.  I had a guy on a Virago take me out there a few years ago in a hard rain so it was slick mud . . . still had fun.  Great road other than that bit.

Oh and Gabriel wants me to tell BB "Mr. Brown is out of town".

Oh it's twisty.. and runs along the river a good ways.  Not to mention you may want to take out your Hypermotard for that section.  Packed earth, with gravel (2 miles or so).. followed by pavement for less than a mile, then the rest of the way to Beaver via construction (ie gravel, dug up road)  As JD says it starts about  half way along that route.  But it is passable.. just not at speed.  Was taken down that way on our way to Tillamook Labor Day weekend.  But if you come back, you TOTALLY have to take Miami River Rd (Just north of Tillamook on 101) to Hwy 53 back towards Hwy 26.  You won't be disappointed I promise!  :)

I agree with you SR1K Femme, Miami River Rd and Hwy 53 is my Favorite route for a twist fix in my area. Thanks for the update on the Beaver To Carlton Rd (Nestucca River Rd). I still think I stick to the Beemer on that one. Can`nt see subjecting my Baby to abuse with so many better roads around. Pm me if in the area and I`ll hit the Miami and 53 with you. [moto]

You are offically banned from posting in the NorthWest section of this forum.  >:(

I wasn't in a position where I could stay with you dear, there were other things going on.

Don't worry, next time I'm in oregon, the Coast is on the list of places to go. You'll be the first person I call.

Okay, so Carlton-Beaver is for when I rent the R1200GS... gotcha.  That's why I asked first, because I've never been down that road.

Gonna have to check out this Miami River Rd-Hwy 53 route.

Dunno if I'll make it over to the coast this year.  Obviously, I'll pipe up if I plan on heading that way on two wheels.

One way or another, we do need to plan a group ride heading that way.  If not this season, then definitely next season.

You didn't have to stay.  My elbow bends perfectly, it allows me to drink many pints of beer.  I wish we at least could have  [beer] before we  [drink].

But no,  :'(

How is the boo-boo on the knee, JBubs?

It has very pretty colors.  ;D  Thank you for picking me up tho.  :-*

In all honesty, its been stiff and not working all that great but its not broke. Just bruised up real good.

Here's a recent pic (the colors are off a little but you get the idea):

Okay, now I'm totally cornfused . . .  :o  ???

That is clearly your right knee . . .

The bike went down (with you on it) on it's left side . . .

Either you are extremely flexible like a ninja, or you were riding side-saddle?

Can you 'splain this one to me, Lucy?   ???     ???     ???

Dude I have no clue if it was the clip on or somethin else. I remember hitting the gravel then i was on my bike with both legs draped over the bike. Good news is that the bike will be ok after some repairs.

And I am ok of course. Good thing you were following me!

Don`nt worry about thread stays around me, never been in a convesation with a group that didn`t twist around like a crooked road. Interesting, did I elude to a crooked twisty road, I need to ride.

Will post some pics of the Rizomas on my Tricolore after work for you Mother. They are the clearest, most vibration free mirrors I`ve had on a bike yet. Kind of a light blue tint to the glass, makes a sharp image.

Ooooh, pretty, I like those mirrors a lot . . . oh wait that is b/c I used to have two of them on my bike. Now I have only one. I haven't replaced the one I wrecked back in March. Or I should say 'that some jerk in an SUV wrecked back in March'. Anyways, want to send me one?

Hi Doc, sorry to hear about your loss.  :(   Hope that was the some total of the damage and no injuries also.

Sure would like to send you one to help you out, but then I would be posting asking for one to replace it. Since you posted first, I feel it would be inappropriate for meto  copy you. I`m sure you understand. Hope someone sends you one soon, or maybe  a supplier will read this and send you one out of sympathy. Will keep my fingers crossed.

Nah, nobody is gonna send one to me out of sympathy, Motocorsa sells 'em for about $146, they wont even give me a cut on the price even though I am the reason they got set up for selling Rizoma in the first place. Does any body know where I can get another one for less than that price?

Oh, and the wreck ruined my bike cosmetically basically all down the left side and busted up my knee for a few months. Bonus was that I upgraded all the gear I wrecked. Bad part was the jerk who hit me didn't stop and I paid for it all myself.

The Doc

(Wait, there is a crappy Buell that gets parked on the sidewalk downtown everyday that has Rizoma's, hmm, a quick turn of the allen wrench and I would be home freeeeee)

:(  Darn, I was putting positive energy out there to try and help. Hope the knees better now. I feel for you on that one. I had knee surgery on Jan. 25 this year for a torn miniscus. No, not motorcycle related. A goofy logging accident. Darn tree! All better now though.

( Oh wait, the guilt! I`d never be able to look at my bike without seeing that crappy Buell) Dammmn
