Title: MotoGP
Post by: mostro900 on September 09, 2008, 03:41:24 AM
I couldn't be bothered searching the forum to see if this topic had already been covered, so flame me if this is a derby.  [coffee]

Anyone planning on heading down for the MotoGP and what, if any plans do you have ?

If we can't ride together, then perhaps we can try to meet up on the day ? Rob ? Egas ? anyone else ?

I'll be camping trackside. Riding down on Thursday with the boy's from the Leeton M/C club.
So by race day I'll have been  [drink] for 4 days, not shaved or showered for the same time and very little sleep.
Anyone still want to meet up [puke]
Dazza.

Probably will head down friday with the usual suspects (bro in law, ex bro in law, and a mate).  We stay at Cape Paterson in an old holiday house owned by some people that the bro in law knows.  Voluntarily pay $50 for the whole weekend.  ;D Really can't complain about that one.  It means that we get a bit of riding in over the weekend too going backwards and forwards to the track. [moto]
Happy to catch up Dazza but only if you stay downwind.

will anyone feel dissapointed/ripped off if stoner isn't there? apparently he's going to pull the pin early and have his wrist operated on so he can do pre-season testing for next year.

Yeah, I would be disappointed if Stoner wasn't racing, but not pissed off. The guy has to do what he has to do to give him the best chance for next year now the title is out of his reach.

I would love to see Moley win at P.I. The Suzuki just doesn't seem to perform on the fast flowing track, but I'm hoping he might go better this year. They did a fair bit of testing after last years P.I. GP.

So ...

The weekend is fast approaching, especially if you're off Friday as well  ;D so are we going to try to get together?  Any landmark is good for me and Saturday is probably better than Sunday.
To see a big crowd of the Oz Monsters all together at once would be a marvellous sight.  [thumbsup]

Well, I rode down to San Remo (Via Cape Paterson - one of us suggested it in the Melbourne coffee thread) and it was brilliant.

I now understand what the GP is all about.

It isn't watching Stoner et. all race round for 45 minutes; nor is it a chance to drown in beer...

It's a celebration of the entire motorcycling culture and to revel in the joy of 2 wheels.

Whoever is going down tomorrow and over the weekend is going to have a blast.

and yes....the police are already of watch, I nodded at one in San Remo and 3 minutes later he was behind me with the sirens on....turns out he didn't like the 4wd in front of me!

get back in time Brimo?

That was a good race - watching positions 2 and 3 and 4 through to 7 was exciting!

and it always good to see 'you-know' win.

Yep got to see the race, and most of the 250s as well, beer in hand, .... such a beautiful circuit, I was there for the first 500 Gp in 1989 (fark doesn't time go fast) now that was a great race too, Gardner, Rainey Sarron, Magee, ahh...the memories..

Turn10 (MG) was carnage corner most of the weekend  ;). Its absaphukkinlootly amazing how Caseys' Duc just launches out of there!! :o And even with the so-called "traction control" leaving black lines around 11 and 12 and onto the straight. Bucking and jumping all the while ....................Awesome!! [thumbsup] [moto]

How good is P.I.

Drowned Friday night, bad hangover Saturday morning, slow recovery drinks while watching the historic racing and Superbike/sport support races, talking shit to people we never met before, Cowes Saturday night (although the watered down Christian version) Froze in the tent and being woken by a car doing circle work next to me. Sunburnt Sunday, the racing is almost an anti climax to the weekend, then riding home at dusk with a dark visor.

Another typical year :)

if you're doing a ride school or track day it's a good idea to trailer the bike.  if possible.  it's a long ride home if you're shagged.

of course, i've never done it.  i don't think i've ever ridden to a track day except for sandown.  maybe it's the ride home that settles it all down.  i always get out of the car sore.  and it's a boring trip at the best of times.

Yes, a fine weekend by all accounts although typical Melbourne spring weather, drowned one day and sunburnt the next.
Great racing and a top result.
Just wish they could plan the carpark exit strategy a bit better.
A permanent Expo building is a big improvement.  Great deals on Ducati merchandise too!

+1 on that, dropped the bike at winton a few years back, makes for a long ride home if you've got bent handlebars and only one footpeg.

we went down for the '97 race, when doohan dropped it going into 1 and bayliss rode the suzuki 250.  weather was great until about 7.30pm when we were about to leave the house we'd stayed at to come home.  bob was on his 916 and he hated getting it wet so he took off and i was left chasing the boss on a demo k1200rs.  i was on the eldorado (guzzi 850gt).  the road was just that flat dark wet look, headlight didn't seem to show anything thru the rain and i couldn't see shit.  spent all the single lane stuff (lots of it then) aiming to the left of the oncoming headlights and chasing the red light in front.  one hell of a shit ride.

did my back in and couldn't ride down - had to take the cage. I was v bummed about not riding down - especially given the bloody brilliant weather.  Apologies that I didn't catch up with anyone from the DMF, but I did speak to a number of Monster riders- just not the right ones clearly!
Took some piccies though if anyone wants a look....
