Title: Ventura rack and Tail chop, will it fit?
Post by: DukeZ on September 09, 2008, 02:24:58 PM
G'day, I will need to carry a bit of gear down to PI for camping at the MotoGP so I'm looking at a Ventura set-up.
I have not seen where the brackets attach to the bike, so my question is..
Will a Ventura rack still fit if I do a tail chop ?
Cheers, Darren.

Darren,

Can't see why not as I think all the brackets are forward of the tail light, that is, I don't think anything is fixed to the frame rails beyond the tail light.

However, it is likely to depend on how your tail light is fixed. I had the ventura on my bike but when I changed to a carbon fibre rear tray (no chop) the new aluminium brackets for the tail light and tray meant I could no longer accommodate the ventura bracket under the seat (behind the tail light) as it's all too busy in there now.

The ventura attaches at two points - first is a clamp on each side that sits behind the side panels.

Then a bar is fitted under the looking mechanism.

So nothing sits further back near the tail.

If you find that a Ventura won't work and have a metal tank I have a DP / Bagster tank bag and bra that's for sale!

I have Hi pipes (DP - Remus) that have the exhaust brackets attached under the seat locking mechanism. Will this also be a problem ?

I've seen some people have purchased pretty large travel bags that are 'attached' to the bike via elastic straps (included).

They seem to work well, and because you don't have a frame, the lines of the monster aren't spoiled (which won't be a problem anyway if you are intending to remove the frame after your camping trip). [thumbsup]

Could be but I really don't know.

The 'L-brackets' which attach near the side panels do come in model specific sizes ..... for example the S2R bracket on the exhaust side is shorter than standard (as on the left side) to accommodate the exhaust.

But, if the exhaust brackets are up under the seat it could be taking up critical space. The crossbar (terminology?) is a pretty neat/tight fit from memory because this is the part which actually holds the thing together .... they are designed to be model specific without alteration, but if you have modified your bike from standard (eg. high-mount pipes) fitment could be an issue.

when they attached under the locking mechanism are you talking beneath the frame or - you removed the saddle and the mount bolted above the frame but below the locking mechanism - if this is the case then you could be out of luck - as Betty said the mounting bracket is a tight fit and is the basis for the whole system.

See, my Termis attach under the frame (no removal of seat was required, with longer bolts that go UP into the rear guard mount.

My new set up uses the frame as it's mount (but it still fowls the looking mechanism / plate because of it's location so a rack wouldn't work with mine anymore....good thing I sold it to Vince!

Can't view videos, etc at the moment so don't know if there is any useful information here, but you may pick up some visuals:

But I s'pose you've already been there.

.... and yeah, if it wasn't the beer tray I am sure my exhausts would be causing all sorts of problems trying to fit a rack now.

Mate!

It's a Ducati Performance bag (made by bagster - that way they charge you twice as much for the 2 little words!)

part no is 967132AAA.

It's a pretty big bag, it will sit up to the top of the fairing windscreen.

I was shocked to find out how many litres it stored (I was looking at the bagster site and couldn't find the correct volume/model before I worked out why!)

I'll pm Dock....

nice bike, they are brilliant, aren't they!
