Title: Bike Fixed, But waiting on warranty confirmation number?!
Post by: GLantern on September 10, 2008, 10:31:05 AM
Ok so my bike has been in the shop for 5 weeks at this point under a warranty repair.  I called them up and on friday it was all done, clean and ready to go except for one small hangup.  The shop is waiting on Ducati to review the work that has been done and send a confirmation number so the shop can get paid. ???  All finished but they can not release the bike to me until they receive this information.  It is supposed to take a couple days and well its been 4 business days at this point.  They had already gotten the OK to do the work in the first place, im confused on the whole thing can Ducati deny the work done?  If so who in the hell would pay for it then?!

Has anybody heard of this before that could shed some light on it for me, i'm just stressed i have a big road trip planned for this weekend with my brother and father, my brother is on leave from the army, i'm supposed to leave friday and i need my bike to go on the trip!!!  Any and all info is welcome

You should probably call them back and stress that you have a planned trip this weekend and they better release the bike to you.  You shouldn't have to wait for your bike so the shop can get paid from DNA.

This is when you really start pregnant doging. You have waited around for weeks for this, they already approved it.  If they don't warranty it then they can call you back and let you know. But give you your damn bike back.

This is boarderline GTA, might call the cops here pretty soon.

Good luck, and thanks for letting me know where NEVER to take my Duc

um...no it's not.

Glantern,  go get your bike, but expect to have them say no.     Get something in writing from the shop saying why you can't have it.  Do not leave without a written reason.   Don't just ask if it's done and why you can't have it, say you want it back and make them say no and why not.

Hopefully this will work out before Friday.   If not, it's fishy enough that it may be nasty.  The only reason they would want to keep the bike is to guarantee payment...and the only reason they need to do that is if something is make the beast with two backsed up with the warranty process and they are expecting to try to pass that to you.

Hopefully we won't reach step two.

I'm sure Chris is correct here. Having said that I'm willing to bet I would go there and leave with my bike.  I might write a check, but I'd leave with my bike.

Did you buy the bike from them?  What was the warranty work that was done?

Somethings missing here? What is it?  The shop gets conformation to do the work BEFORE they do the work - or maybe they didn't.

It's all about money in one way or another.

I called them today and they said it is ready for pickup tomorrow [thumbsup].  Everything worked out, it was in there for a replacement dash, had it stall out on me.  They did right though and took care of me so i cant complain, i did buy the bike from them.  It has been a while and i was not complaining about that i have seen much worse dealings when it comes to warranty work, ie. He Man.

I am in no way saying they are a bad dealer they really went above and beyond for me for this work.  It just took a little bit of pushing to make sure it was done on time.  I appreciate all the input from everybody and i would have came in with a check if tahts what it took to get my bike back.  I had made it very clear why i needed my bike back before the weekend and they pulled it off.  of course if i go there tomorrow and i can not take it you will all know [roll]

I've never heard anything about a dealer having to wait for "warranty confirmation". As LA said, they get permission BEFORE the work is performed. It's great that you are getting your bike back, but you shouldn;t have had to wait in the first place. I would seriously consider going somewhere else next time. Chris was right, something's fishy..

I do feel something was fishy too, however i bought the bike from them so i figured warranty work should be done by them.  But you do have the option to go wherever for warranty work right?  I'll know everything tomorrow, everyone at home thought something was odd too considering the work should have been pre-approved..........

Warranty work generally has to be performed by a dealer. Not necessarily the one you bought it form, but the same manufacturer. Sometimes during special circumstances, a shop other than a dealer will perform warranty work but it must be approved first...
