Taste of Racing (http://www.omrra.com/pdf/info_tasteofracing.pdf)

$20 for 20 minutes, Taste of Racing is an opportunity for motorcycle enthusiasts to experience the thrill of racing, cornering, and riding fast in a safe environment where you won't get a ticket!! Sound like fun? Want to try it out? Click on the  Taste of Racing link above for specific details!

Every paid ToR participant will receive:
EDR Performance (http://www.edrperformance.com/) coupon for a free baseline dyno of your bike
Woodcraft (http://www.woodcraft-cfm.com/Scripts/default.asp) 10% off purchase coupon
Cascade Race Tire Services (http://shop.crtsllc.com/main.sc) is offering Pirelli tires at the racer discount
SDS Performance (http://www.sdsperformance.com/) will be giving 10% off labor costs (working on a coupon, may not have one by ToR)

Dark Horse Racing is running ToR this year, we are pitted on the second row in from the Start/Finish line.  You cant miss us, we will have a ToR sign-up sandwich board at our pits, and obnoxiously blue race bikes.

We are also accepting volunteers to work corners during the ToR events.  If you are interested in ToR but don't have a bike, or are not sure if you're ready for the track, you can volunteering some time and help us by working a corner!  Anyone who volunteers to work a corner for us, can ride the next ToR for free!  We will also be BBQing in our pits and will feed anyone who help's out.  :)

Few changes we will be incorporating into ToR:

 - Not a new rule, but one I have to keep repeating.  At NO point should any ToR participant pass the lead rider. This has happened at every ToR this year.  The lead rider will be very visible, not sure what we will be using this next weekend, but we have used a big red X, an orange Vest in the past, but people still tried to pass him.  Please people, do not pass the lead bike, he is there for a reason.  We will discuss this more in detail at the ToR riders meeting

 - Max number of riders changing from 50 to 35

 - If a rider crashes, all other riders return to the hot pit area (where we start from) and wait for instructions.  Two or more control riders will assist the downed rider.  If the rider is ok, the bike cleared from any impact zones, and the track clear of any debris, we will resume ToR immediately.  If the rider is not ok, or there is oil/coolant on the track that needs cleanup, ToR is done for the day.  One of the control riders will ride the downed rider back to the pit area, and Blinky will get the bike after ToR is complete (unless he wants to sooner, remember this is his lunch period)

If anyone has any questions, please post them here, or PM me directly.

Lastly, I want to thank OMRRA, EDR Performance, Cascade Race Tire Service, SDS Performance, Woodcraft, and all the volunteers who help make this event happen!

Hope to see you there!

Maybe a derby of the gear needed would help.

Kewl!  I'm plannin' to come out there on Saturday. [thumbsup]

Maurice, did I read correctly a while back that you've got a spare/loaner Dainese suit in size 58?  I'd normally need a 56, but one size up probably won't be too bad.

I gotta buy a suit before next year.  Have trackbike... need gear!

I have a spare 58 (48US), and 60 (50US) dianese suits to choose from.  :)

Which bike you riding?

If I can get out of a work obligation... I will be... in a time crunch on some projects... it's cutting into my riding time.... I need to retire.... and then I can ride more.  [thumbsup]

Schweeet.  [thumbsup]

I'll be riding the Duc.  Haven't replaced any parts on the CBR yet.  Needs a radiator, throttle cables, clutch cable, and throttle-side switch housing to be rideable.  Then it needs bodywork.  Keeping tabs on fleabay and biding my time as I look for a good deal on parts.  ;)  I'm not planning to do any full trackdays until next year, after my budget recovers from buying the CBR (ouch  :P).

Oh yeah, then I gotta buy tires for it, because the crappy OE Dunlops are toast (and I feel were a contributing factor in it getting totaled in the first place).

Dan - Let me know if you need to borrow any other track bits for the day.... and cascade track time still has some openings for Friday iffen you wanna do a full day.

Well, I don't think I need anything other than leathers for ToR.  Thanks for the offer though!  [thumbsup]  Oh, I still owe you a bottle of vodka for that sub...

No full trackdays for me 'til next season when I have my own leathers, and the aforementioned budget recovery.

Anyone else gonna be there Saturday?

I was gonna try to get there for the 10am track crossing.  I dunno... leave this area around 9?  Want me to swing by your house and we can head out from there?

Sounds good.  I'll be geared up and ready to go at 9AM.

Unless you wanna head out a bit earlier and grab a spot of tea at Starbucks.  8)

Shall I plan to meet at your house at 8:30 then?

You can have your tea... that early on a Saturday, I'll be needing the kick of espresso.  [coffee]

Hmm... weather is looking iffy.  I've got some sources saying AM rain showers, others saying cloudy but dry.  Will have to play it by ear.

FYI, Chuck, if it's raining at the time I'm trying to leave my apartment, I won't be riding.  I'll try to give you a call if I have to cancel.

Chuck - Looking good out there... you only got lapped by that Harley like once or twice.  ;D

Post by: NEIKOS on September 20, 2008, 10:37:49 PM
I lapped the Harley thank you very much!

And the guy on the 636.  He scared the begeezus out of me when he went off into the grass on turn 4.  Then again when I passed him in Turn 1 and realized it was him and expected him to T-bone me as I rode my line through the turn.

Everyone else lapped me!  Some twice or even 3 times.

Well, I made it up to the track on Saturday, and ToR was great!  ;D  Big props to Mo for loaning me a suit, and to all the volunteers who make ToR happen.  [thumbsup]

I had recently put some new Pilot Powers on the SS, and since all I had ridden was back-and-forth across town, no real twisties, they had huge chickenstrips.  :P  No more!  The Michelins are now scrubbed in to the edge (well, the rear is, anyway), like tires on a proper Ducati should be. [evil]

Nobody went down, so our 20 minutes on track was uninterrupted!  Very cool.  I think there were only 12-18 riders, as well, so "traffic" was light... Mo, do you remember how many there were?

My lines were mostly abysmal (I'm sure), and it took several laps before I had the foggiest idea how to get around turn 4.  After 6 or so laps, I finally was able to see the shiny streak that is the racing line, and was able to navigate T4 much more smoothly thereafter.

I was lapped by the fast group (all the guys clustered behind the leader) once, about 2/3 of the way through the session.  Was passed within the first few laps by a couple guys who started behind me and worked their way up.  I lapped that green Ninja 636 twice.  I remember lapping Chuck once toward the end.  I lapped the cruiser 3 times: Twice on the end by turns 1-5, and once coming out of T9.  He did a great job staying out of faster bikes' way, so I think we all had a lot of fun.

Peak speed was ~120 indicated down the front straight.  Peak back straight speed on one lap was 115 indicated.  The bike had more, but I'm closing in on the 12k valve service, and didn't feel like wringing the motor out any more.  The front straight went by plenty quick at 120 mph, anyway... before I knew it, I'd come up on the brake markers for turn one, sit up straight, and start whaling on the brakes & downshifting.  I don't think I ever took T1 as fast as I could have, but that was my first time on PIR, the sun wasn't out (cooler track), and I really didn't feel like pushing the SS to its limits.  I'll explore the limits of motorcycle tire adhesion on the CBR when I get it out there for trackdays next year.  ;)

So anyway, big thanks again to Mo and everyone involved with OMRRA for putting on Taste of Racing!  [clap]  That was a blast!

I dont recall exactly how many riders there were Saturday, but approximately 20 sounds about right.

glad you had fun, hope Chuck did as well.  There really isnt a better way to spend $20 on a motorcycle IMO.

Totally!  That $20 was the best "amusement park" ride I've ever been on!  ;D  I still have a s***-eating grin whenever I think about it...

I'll be watching the weather for the October OMRRA races.  If it's slated to be dry, I may have to show up and do that again.

Mother was right... that must be like the first "free" hit off the crack pipe...  [evil]

Oh I had fun!

Nothing as exciting as following a guy into T4 and thinking his line is WAY different than yours and he's going a lot faster so you've seriously make the beast with two backsed up only to see grass and dirt start flying about  . . . guy didn't go down I'll give him that!

I knew he was trouble with the spikes mounted on his helmet.  Bastard had the Ninja 636 I've been lusting for since it was announced many years ago . . .

115 tops on front straight, not sure about the back.  I seem to focus on the cement wall more than anything else on the back.

Think I mastered - for my bike - T9.

About sums it up.

Thanks Mo and all for sponsoring the event.

Oh hey, anybody know who the quasi-pro looking photog was?  I forgot to find him after-the-fact and see if he had a website where pics could be ordered.  Looked like he was busy snapping pics of most everybody as we prepped then lined up, and I assume he snapped some action photos...
