Title: "friendly" safety check?
Post by: Brutale on September 16, 2008, 12:30:18 PM
Well, my Sport 1000 finally rolled off the boat and I wasted two hours trying to get a safety check done on it.  I went to south seas Ducati and I knew I was in trouble when the service advisor asked me "what kind of bike is that?"  I guess the "Ducati" in big white letters on the black tank wasnt obvious enough! [bang]  I waited 45 minutes for them to tell me that my LED front and rear turn signals are not DOT and will not pass.  So, off I go to another mom and pop shop who then tell me that my Termi pipes are too loud.  [bang]

Does anyone know of a friendly safety inspection shop that might pass my bike?  Feel free to PM if you dont want to publicly name them.

WTF is up with this state anyway?  Freakin scooters zoomin around with no safety check, a bicycle license, and being ridden by folks with no license of any kind.  And they give me a hassle about my freakin turn signals???

Welcome (looks like I am welcoming you anyhow) to dealing with the PRH.

Who did the safety check down at South Seas?

the 'other' safety check person, unless there are more than one, seems to be the same fellow who gig'd tristo. I had no trouble w/mine.

cyclepro used to be lax as all hell, but they closed.  have you tried revtek in waipio? w/the kinds of bikes they work on, I can't imagine safety check being a hassle over there...

Either that or just call up South Seas and ask to make an appointment with Will.  Talk to him ahead of time and see what he says.

You could try CR Imports on Mookaula St. Ask for Clint.

Thanks for the suggestions guys!!  I could never get the guys over at CR imports to return my calls, and they are never open!  Nice way to do business!  Anyway, found a place over in Kaneohe that did not give me any problems at all.  Lots of drama at city hall though.  I had to end up getting the freakin bike weighed back in Honolulu after I went to the satellite city hall in Kailua.  All in all I put 70 miles on the bike just trying to get a safety check and license!

Absolutely!  Now I can ride around (legally!) and not get hassled unless I do something more stupid than usual! [thumbsup]
