Title: VS/DML sabotage
Post by: ADG on May 08, 2008, 08:56:38 PM
If you feel like being childish and are bored, go to DML and give a five star rating to every thread.

I've started in the general monster forum. Now I'm passing the torch. Get busy.

If you're going to do it, do it right. It's about signal to noise. You need to make noise.

Resurrect old threads. Put things like "any more info" "Can I do that to my bike" etc. Make it impossible to figure out real posts from the noise, push any new content to 2-3 pages back. That way new threads don't get attention. Site becomes less useful.

How about resurrecting old threads that deserve to remain dead by spamming recommendations to visit this site, in some manner that the automatic tools can't detect.  Then note how many you were able to make before you got banned from the forum.  Go out in a blaze of glory!  :e:v

Post your "count before being banned" number here afterwards.

How about this?  I wield my mod powers, which I still have over there (for now), to undelete every thread and post that's gotten the axe in the last week.   :e:v

I don't think they care.   It's not like the owners ride, so content is no big deal, just statistics to sell ad space.

Their new Mods might care, but that doesn't bother the owners one bit.

It's on autopilot.

if you want to stir up old posts do not spam the dmf url, they willl just delete your post and return the thread to where it belongs.  if you just reply to it they *should* just leave it

i was trying to figure out a way to be a thorn in their side, but all i can come up with is deleting whole threads.

i was debating the whole bringing up old posts and such. i thought about it a bit longer and realized the best way to get them is to just let the board die. if post count drops then they lose leverage with sponsors. i realize they have a large "network" of forums so the sponsors woin't leave entirely, but jut let what they bought wither and die by their own hands.

be sneaky about doing anything, like when someone posts respond in a pm with directions that will avoid the bots to bring them here or elsewhere.

Keep in mind every time you go back there it is another hit.  That gives them numbers as a sales tool and keeps them in a top position on search engines which means even more hits.

Yeah, I know, I've been back there out of curiosity.

Agreed.  I only removed a couple of picture links.  I think that is reasonable.

Title: Re: VS/DML sabotage

as a mod, can you ban their new mods?  :e:v

No, out of curiosity I checked to see if I could hand out demerits to their admins and that wasn't an option either.

I wouldn't actually have done anything, even make the beast with two backsing with the deleted posts.  That's not the kind of person I am.

But while poking around and reading stuff that had happened since I was last there (I hadn't logged in over there since Feb.) one of them must've seen me logged in and said "who the hell is that?" b/c my mod status disappeared.

So I drafted a quick goodbye and don't plan to ever visit again.

well, they just deleted my signature and when I went into my control panel, I no longer have the capability of adding a signature so I'm probably on the way out of there.

Do what you want.

+1 to a lot of above comments

The less traffic the worse off they will be.

If you really feel the need to "do something" answer all posts inaccurately (Q: my bike won't start, help.  A: check the tire pressure.) or with I don't know.

Kinda what I was thinking.  Right now, they're really needing as much activity as they can get.  Probably why they lifted a bunch of old bans ~

it's protecting their investment.

i have a link up on the local board we created. if people look they will find us here. i'm sure other places have done the same. if you can influence that happening then do it.

in the meantime we have the chance to relax and get back to why we all stuck around after we found the tech info we needed.

That's alright, if anyone wants a new one, I can setup a redirect from some dead webspace I have that will take them a while to detect.  I've got tons of domains, so I could right new apache redirects all day long.

Sorry guys it's time to just let her go, I posted a fire storm of message yesterday trying to persuade people to leave, and a couple days ago they banned about 6 aliases and proxies attempting to inform users where everyone has gone... now It's done. The look and feel of the DMW is about the same as the old DML so it almost feels as if we aren't even missing a beat...

Personally, I wouldn't have found this place without the posts over on the old site (thanks NateDog).  However seeing how sucky the old site is and how familiar this place is I say screw them and let them die their own death.  Karmatic retribution is a beeyoch and they will probably have plenty of it.  Me?  I'll keep my plate clean.

So um . . . let's be straight, the DML is now a revenue center. It only fails is if it fails to bring in advertising dollars. The only ways you as a consumer can limit the revenue this website brings in are:

1) DO NOT VISIT THE SITE. Hits are what the people selling the ad space point to when they are trying to convince a company to give them money.

2) Contact the companies who advertise on the DML and let them know that, as long as they continue to be part of the force that destroyed a part of the moto community you enjoyed, you will not purchase product from their company. Its called a boycott and it doesn't work if companies are not made aware.

Perhaps you could say something like, oh, I don't know:

**************************************************************************************

To the Sales Department -

I am a motorcycle enthusiast and I own a [insert your bike(s)]. Recently, a part of the online motorcycle community I enjoyed was turned from a resource for motorcyclists into a profit center for a corporation. Because of this I am no longer willing to support companies who continue advertise on the website www.ducatimonster.org and I can no longer in good conscience recommend your company to my fellow riders as I believe the actions taken at www.ducatimonster.org are a detriment to the motorcycling community as a whole. Should your support of www.ducatimonster.org cease I will consider your company when deciding where to purchase motorcycle related products in the future.

Thank you for your time.

**************************************************************************************

If companies receive enough emails like this may may start spending their advertising dollars elsewhere. And you could send it to the companies who advertise on the DML such as, oh say:

sales@motowheels.com
info@denniskirk.com
rick@hotbodiesracing.com
sales@tobefast.com
sales@d2moto.com
mailto:info@cliffscyclerevolution.com
sales@speedymoto.com

Some folks make it harder to send them negative feed back:

http://www.desmoworks.com/index.php?main_page=contact_us
http://www.lubedealer.com/gviv/contact.aspx
http://www.motorcycle.com/forum/sendmessage.php
http://www.superbiketoystore.com/sport/shop.php/contact-us/i_2.html
http://www.braketech.com/contact_us.php

I clicked the links so you wouldn't have to. Copy and paste is your friend.   wt:

However, you should only do this if you actually mean it. For example, I would never tell motowheels that I wouldn't buy from them for advertising on the DML. They have give me good service in the past and I think Martin is a nice guy. And I didn't even include cacyclewerks on that list because I (and everyone I know) have received nothing less than great service and Chris is a huge asset to the CA moto community. But I certainly won't try any company I'm not familiar with. Have I mentioned I love the consumer side of the free market economy?  ;)
