Man steals motorcycle from dying rider
The Hamilton Spectator
HAGERSVILLE (Sep 9, 2008)
Someone stole a motorcycle from a man as he lay dying yesterday after an accident in Hagersville.

Police say the thief rode off on the bike while its rider lay seriously injured in a ditch. The man later died.

Police have identified the victim as 26-year-old Scott Henry of Brantford.

OPP say a brown or light-coloured SUV arrived shortly after the motorcycle crashed around 3 p.m.

Someone took it "while the man was lying there," said Norfolk OPP spokesperson Constable Jeff Walraven.

Officers say the man was riding north on Indian Line between Villa Nova Road and Concession 2, Townsend, and was seriously injured when the machine went into a ditch and the rider was thrown.

An SUV with several people inside stopped, and one man got out and stole the motorcycle. Anyone with information about the SUV or the man who rode the motorcycle away is asked to call investigators at 1-888-310-1122.

Where is that? I'm a bit saddened by the fact that this story did not surprise me. It only filled me with despise for the human race.

If there were any chance I could survive an accident, it would kill me to see someone stealing my bike instead of helping me.  >:(

Okay -- the guy did a dick move. But, really, homeboy doesn't need to die...

Yes, he's an ass. He probably should get the shit kicked out of him a few (dozen) times. But kill him, really?
There are 1,000's of worse things people do everyday that go unnoticed. I never really understood wishing death on someone.

And who knows, maybe dieing motorcycle rider did something shitty to deserve this.

Or maybe homeboy who stole the bike is just an ass.

did the thief know the guy was mortally wounded?  probably not.

he's an asshole and needs to go to prison and have a few dozen husbands, but he didn't kill anyone.

also, no one is under any obligation to render aid.  if he had stopped and just watched the guy die, he is guilt-less (in the eyes of the law)

but he's definitely an asshole all around.  prison and give him some vaseline with sand in it.

a) why is anyone defending a bike thief?
b) where is human decency?

who defended him?   everyone said he's an asshole.   'tizz just pointed out some relevent law.  we don't shoot horse thieves anymore  (although that was perhaps a step backwards).

I got nothing... seems like a pretty low point in somebody's life when they stoop to this... but society is already down in the wagon ruts... so nothing suprises me any more. Sad.

not many facts in the story.

maybe the rider stole/borrowed the bike

maybe the person who took it was the actual owner

maybe they were both thieves

maybe the rider called the person who picked it up

In Texas they still shoot horse thieves and some states do require you to render aid.

i was just sayin' he probably didn't know the guy was dying (but i wasn't there).

the thieving part is good enough for me to hang him.

no, you're not required to render aid, read the article more closely -- it is grounds for a tort claim which means if you leave someone wihtout helping you can be SUED -- not arrested.  it isn't criminal to leave them.  and if they die, who knows?

(to be clear, these are questions of curiosity, not defense for the asshat who ran her down)

a) What motorcyclist in their right mind would deliberately hit a person? ???
b) How exactly did they identify a fully geared rider as being in their 30s?

Because if you're in your 20's you wear shorts and flip-flops.

If you're in your 40's, you stop running people over.

True long story short....
I crashed on an overpass, flipped over the jersey wall and fell to the ground below.  Call a friend when I finally walk to a pay phone and he goes to get my bike, which is still on the overpass.  As soon as he arrives, he has to stop the individuals pushing my bike onto their truck!
Guess it isn't too strange...Go Humanity!

whether the biker was dying or not or was his bike or stolen, he was lying on the side of the road.  You call for aid.  At least they didn't steal more than his bike.  Hope they get caught

Yeah really!!  Next thing you know, an 'entrepuener' will be riding around carrying a blood type kit looking for dying people by the side of the road.  Heart, lungs, they're worth more than the bike ( just easier to steal! ).
