Title: S4rs tail chop Post by: 08S4Rs on September 16, 2008, 06:01:24 PM Just got my 08' S4rs on saturday!!!! Best/Most Fun Bike i have ever ridden. I bought it used so it already has a full Termi exhaust and ECu upgrade, Open clutch cover, red pressure plate, and CRG levers. The next thing that i want to do is get rid of the ugly plastic tail end. I looked into chopping it all off but for some reason i cant come to terms with cutting off the end of the frame. I know i can just get rid of the plastic and get a carbon fiber part for it instead and integrate the blinkers into the break light. What do you think i should do? Are there any options that i don't know of yet? Also is there anything else that anyone knows of to do to the bike thats not too over the top?

Congrats on the RS [thumbsup] I like my DP CF tail...like you, I didn't want to chop the frame. As for other mods, there are endless things you can do. Why don't you post some pics and we can give you some advice? Title: Re: S4rs tail chop Post by: Dirteagle on September 16, 2008, 07:17:53 PM [thumbsup] Very cool! An RS with bling. Saved a little green there. If you really need to ask, " Chop it!"
I chopped mine, but thats what I wanted. Take your time and think about it. Everyone has an opinion, but what do you want? My bike, my choice. Your bike, your choice. ??? I`m sure this really, really helped. ;D Ya right. Check out all the similar bikes you can for a while, patience grasshopper, when the time is right you`ll know. Title: Re: S4rs tail chop Post by: SikDuc on September 16, 2008, 07:23:07 PM Chop it [evil]
Title: Re: S4rs tail chop Post by: Bbrent on September 16, 2008, 07:33:08 PM I think about chopping my tail about once a day on my RS. But I live in Washington and I need my fender. I'm getting the CF kit soon.
Title: Re: S4rs tail chop Post by: acemoney on September 16, 2008, 08:42:19 PM i vote CHOP.....but then again i just finished my chop 10 minutes ago so i could be bias!!! (seriously). i had NO PROBLEM taking that ugly thing off and picking up a 4 dollar hacksaw and going to town, then again i don't have an 08' s4, but i don't think i'd have a problem if i did. if you like the chop look over everything else THEN DO IT. if your not because of resale purposes or something that's just crazy.....and if it's because you scared of messing up don't worry cause i'm the most ducati illiterate person on or off here and i think i did great job and looks like a beauty (1000% better than pre-choppy). i say chop if you want it......you only live once.
Title: Re: S4rs tail chop Post by: lazarus7 on September 17, 2008, 05:57:05 AM i cant bring myself to hacksaw a brand new shiny dreambike just yet.......
plus the short tail helps somewhat in ALL the rain we get here in florida, so...... did 150 rainy miles 2 weeks ago saturday w 4 other riders, was fast and fun... and didnt come home filthy...;) (http://i28.tinypic.com/noa6o8.jpg) Title: Re: S4rs tail chop Post by: arai_speed on September 17, 2008, 06:08:18 AM When I first got my bike I wanted to remove the beer holder....now I rarely think about it and doesn't bother me in the least.
Title: Re: S4rs tail chop Post by: TAftonomos on September 17, 2008, 05:17:59 PM Don't be a sissy, it's an ugly eye sore that must be removed. I don't call it a beer tray...it's a melanoma.
Have a drink: (http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y54/TheoAftonomos/DUcati%20S4Rt/beforechop.jpg) Chop it off: (http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y54/TheoAftonomos/DUcati%20S4Rt/tailchop.jpg) Notice the excitement as it's about to finally be gone: (http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y54/TheoAftonomos/DUcati%20S4Rt/tailchop1.jpg) Reap the sweetness (and now go shorten your cans up too like the pic) : (http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y54/TheoAftonomos/DUcati%20S4Rt/DSC_0235.jpg) (http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y54/TheoAftonomos/DUcati%20S4Rt/DSC_0236.jpg) A few other mods, see my thread (search S4RT) Rain? Seriously? If you ride in the rain, you're going to get wet from rain hitting you head on. I've noticed nothing spraying up on my back as some claim when removing the rear melanoma Title: Re: S4rs tail chop Post by: Bbrent on September 18, 2008, 09:59:07 PM Het Lazarus. What tail piece is that?

the aluminum tag brackets on mine are finished in mate black, not silver.... much less obtrusive, IMHO..... Title: Re: S4rs tail chop Post by: TAftonomos on September 19, 2008, 08:03:39 AM I've got that same tag bracket thingy. PO installed it at the dealer. I uninstalled it and chopped the tail a few hours after the bike came home for good.
It's FS if you want it, PM me. Title: Re: S4rs tail chop Post by: NorDog on September 19, 2008, 09:40:51 AM Just got my 08' S4rs on saturday!!!! Sorry dude, but it doesn't exist without pix!! Chop those cans! Title: Re: S4rs tail chop Post by: damianS4RS on October 11, 2010, 05:28:23 PM Dude I feel your pain. I bought the kit and sat on it for a couple months before I could work up the nerve to chop her. Don't regret it one bit. Even in the rain. She's so hot now with her ass out.
Title: Re: S4rs tail chop Post by: DucRS on October 11, 2010, 07:34:06 PM You WILL chop it. It's just a matter of time ;D I held out for about a year then one day I couldn't take it no more and hacksaw blades and steel shavings started flying and shazam! I did it and have never regretted it once. Congrats on the RS!

I did it and have never regretted it once. Congrats on the RS! I agree, it took me 2 1/2 years, but I finally musterd enough balls to go through mine. I'm glad I did. I like the look. However, I liked the look before. I guess it was just time for the change.Title: Re: S4rs tail chop Post by: COP TZR on October 12, 2010, 06:29:10 PM chop it and keep the rear portion of the sub-frame you cut off. In the event that you want to put it back, you can just sleeve it, weld it and its back to normal

Took my time and now glad I did it [thumbsup], and then tackled chopping the Termi's to match.
