Title: Lodi Cycle Bowl Sept. 20th
Post by: Lil Kiki on September 16, 2008, 09:19:23 PM
Ive always been interested in flat track racing thanks to my dads stories and pictures from when he raced, and one of the places still around that he raced at was the lodi cycle bowl. I was planning on going out there saturday afternoon and watching some of the races. so my quesions are 1. has anyone ever been there and seen the races there? 2. are they any good to watch, meaning is it worth the hour and a half drive to get there?  and 3. (not really a question but an offer) if anyone is interested in goin with my i wouldnt mind the company.  im riding my bike though, mostly because that its my only form of transportation, but also because i think it would be a nice ride. so, what do we think?

No im talking about flat track racing as in dirt bikes stripped and riding around on a flat dirt track. not bicycles.

That looks like stupid-good fun!  [thumbsup]  I don't have the time to check it out, but I bet you're gonna have a blast.  I'm hoping to go dirtbiking myself for the first time this weekend, but it doesn't look like it'll pan out.  Can't wait to practice stickin' my foot out and lettin' the bike get all squirrelly under me.   [moto]

I could be interested in riding out there.  I have never seen a dirt track out race in person, but it seems like it would be fun.  I dont know if it would be worth an hour and a half slab ride out there.  Seems like the roads out that way are long and straight

This saturday (20th), practice starts at 4pm and the races start at 530pm. i was thinking of getting there early to see the practicing and maybe grab a bight to eat at sonics (heard there was one near there and ive never seen one before, kind of a novelty thing i guess).  spectator tickets are $10.  if you go here: http://www.lodicyclebowl.com/ it has everything i just mentioned.

Sounds like fun

I wouldn't mind going. I just spun a map and it looks like about 45 miles from me.

If you want to meet somewhere on the way up let me know.

Ah, flat track! Now that's a whole other story! That there's some good fun!

(And it's always fun to watch the old Yammie XS650s beat up on the Harleys!)

If you want a (semi) scenic route out to the valley, try hwy 37 to Vallejo, then up 80 for a short bit, then out hwy 12 to Lodi. No real twisties to speak of, but at least it's farmland and delta wetlands most of the way.  (My in-laws live in Stockton, so I've made the trip lots of times - once on the scooter even.  ;) )

Dirt track is a f-a-n-t-a-s-t-i-c form of racing.  It's tight, dramatic, racing.  If you ever have a chance to see a mile race believe me when I say 'go'. 100mph with no room between a side-ways pack of nutters for an hour+ is a blast.
There is no compairason.  The Euro-heros we all hold in such high esteme made a bee-line to the Indy-Mile dirt track race while they were here for the MotoGP race last week.  We have a corner stone of motorcycle racing right here in the U.S.A. and we don't appreciate the signifigance.
You will have a blast.  I really wish I could go, too.

The Indy Mile is where Kenny Roberts finally got on the map
The most famous of the Indy Miles has to be the 1975 running. The guys at Champion frames got some of Yamaha's two-stroke Fours, as seen in roadracing, and put them into dirt-track frames, then beguiled Kenny Roberts into trying one.
He hung onto the beast long enough to blast past the leaders on the last lap, but he later said the risk wasn't worth the reward, and no one was happier than Roberts when the AMA limited dirt machines to two cylinders.  His famous quote was "They don't pay me enough to ride this thing".

I could go on and on but I'm just a dinosaur.
The San Jose Mile.
Del Mar.
et al.
You missed it.

The Santa Clara MX track had a dirt oval and TT track that they run on wensday night. $20 and bring your bike and you can be a part of the action.

I am on the boarder of Antioch and Brentwood. Oakley is one town over so its very close.

Pick a spot and time you would like to meet up and I am game.

Or I can find a spot.

I really don't know Oakley but I am sure I can find a Star Bucks or some landmark to meet up
