Title: motowheels MW-7000 slipper clutch on my S4Rs Post by: jesse370 on September 20, 2008, 05:12:35 PM let me start by saying this....yeah I know my pictures suck, I will take better ones tomorrow

Its a motowheels MW-7000 slipper with surflex plates. I have speedymoto titanium retaining caps with stainless springs and bolts too. Yes the pressure plate is copper colored. Its that way now because the tech decided to use a bunch of heat to help get the bearing into the pressure plate. I would suggest that motowheels just press them in to avoid this kinda thing in the future.... BUT that will be a battle that the dealer isn't going to win cause I don't plan on playing fair. The dealer will be replacing my pressure plate or I will be contacting DNA and filing a complaint, contacting the owner directly which will piss him off to know what happened, AND then disputing the claim with my CC company. Now onto a review. I've never had a drive clutch slipper setup before, but I figured that with the stiffer springs the lever pull would be tough, but it is far easier then stock. Also the engagement is immediate, the whole assembly is MUCH lighter then stock. The bike in first at very low throttle inputs tends to want to stall if you are moving around in a parking lot or anything like that because of the huge loss of rotating weight. BUT the bike does want to rev slightly faster and that is A-OK in my book. [thumbsup] So if anyone can vouch for a super easy pull with a slipper that would put my mind at ease. Now onto the fun stuff. Granted I was dealing with scrubbing in a new tire I still got the chance to mess around after a while and check out how sweet this whole thing is. Now even with a pretty fresh tire I was able to check out how well this thing works. With some up and down shifts the clutch makes a little more noise then before but I think thats cool anyway, afterall I did put a open cover on the bike. ;D Now with the slipper downshifts no longer upset the bike leading into turns or just down shifting going straight. No drama and the bike never gets out of line, and the bike just pulls like a freight train. ONE issue, at some point during the ride the little clutch actuator on the lever some-how managed to move and I lost the free-play at the lever and the bike started to slip, so I nursed the bike back to the dealer and they quickly fixed the issue and had my back on my way. 3rd gear power wheelies once again FTW! So all in all it was worth every penny, its noisy and lets me shift later if I have to and if I make any mistakes with my downshifts I'm not backing the bike into turns anymore. As for the guys at motowheels......I can't say enough about them, they got me these parts incredibly quickly to help get my bike back on the road and I swear spent almost 40 minutes on the phone with me trying to help me figure out the best course of action for dealing with my dead stock clutch. I can't say enough about that, they answered every stupid question I had and even helped me with questions after hours. They are great guys and its a reason they are so respected, I will be spending WAY too much money with them again in the future. [bacon] [bacon] definitely a word class operation there. theyll be getting lots more of my $$ too...;) Title: Re: motowheels MW-7000 slipper clutch on my S4Rs Post by: jesse370 on September 20, 2008, 07:16:55 PM I will be out playing more tomorrow. I hope to have that tire scrubbed in a little more. I went from no chicken or..... [bacon] strips....to almost 3" strips. But in the end its a free tire.
Title: Re: motowheels MW-7000 slipper clutch on my S4Rs Post by: darylbowden on September 20, 2008, 09:29:33 PM So if anyone can vouch for a super easy pull with a slipper that would put my mind at ease. I can only speak for a surflex slipper (very similar to what you have most likely), but it REALLY makes for a super-light clutch pull. So, don't worry, your bike is fine - it's just one of the many benefits of a slipper. Title: Re: motowheels MW-7000 slipper clutch on my S4Rs Post by: dbran1949 on September 21, 2008, 05:15:59 PM Oh Damn. I rented a 696 a month ago and really liked the slipper. Now I have to hear it makes the clutch pull lighter as well. Christmas may have to come early this year
Title: Re: motowheels MW-7000 slipper clutch on my S4Rs Post by: jesse370 on September 21, 2008, 07:35:19 PM If you can afford it, its amazing how nice the thing works.
I love mine. Title: Re: motowheels MW-7000 slipper clutch on my S4Rs Post by: ghosthound on September 21, 2008, 07:42:00 PM ahh, motowheels. Truly some stand-up guys. Im fortunate enough to have them local!! Everyone that ive dealt with at that store is very friendly and knowledgeable.
Title: Re: motowheels MW-7000 slipper clutch on my S4Rs Post by: jesse370 on September 22, 2008, 10:59:33 AM I wish they were local. But alas they aren't. But I'm just glad the bike is back up and running and I couldn't be happier.
It was well worth the money without a daoubt Title: Re: motowheels MW-7000 slipper clutch on my S4Rs Post by: jesse370 on September 22, 2008, 05:11:25 PM So I went to the dealership today to speak with the general manager and the service manager, of course the service manager is off on mondays.....
I wrote a pretty long and damning letter outlining my issues with said dealership that I hope I don't need to send to anyone, or post on any ducati message boards (or all of them). So all you guys wish me luck, all i want is a red pressure plate to be installed like I purcahsed and brought to the dealership and to have my plates and fibers inspected and replaced if they show any heat damage or wear. I think thats pretty fair, considering the bike has 60 miles on it since the install and I have had these issues. I still love the damn slipper though ;D Title: Re: motowheels MW-7000 slipper clutch on my S4Rs Post by: jesse370 on September 23, 2008, 05:19:05 PM well I again went to the dealership and they were very apologetic and want to do what ever to make things right. So I guess this will hopefully end my bad bike luck.
BUT.....woot I still got a slipper Title: Re: motowheels MW-7000 slipper clutch on my S4Rs Post by: jesse370 on December 15, 2008, 07:24:39 PM Well it took a while, but Motowheels was able to get a extra pressure plate made up and anodized red and my dealer purchased said plate and installed it. And then I got to ride the bike home in 35 degree weather.....
BUT.....WOOT I got my ruby red pressure plate now! As its bitter ass cold right now I will HOPE to get it above freezing and dry on saturday and try and take some nice pictures of my shiney new red pressure plate. Big [thumbsup] up to Desimone motorsports for doing the right thing and Motowheels for a great price on the slipper and helping my dealer out. But for the price you can't beat this thing, super light lever feel, great support and high quality parts. Its still noisey as hell [evil] and the bike just pulls so hard off idle now. And if you have to drop a gear later into your setup for a turn then you would like the drama is incredibly cut back from what I had when the bike was stock. Before you would get chatter and the bike would want to back into a turn ( I won't lie....thats fun) Now sometimes the rear tire just wiggles slightly but that is it. NOW with that being said, I still have a pilot power that still isn't scrubbed in to my liking so I have a feeling when the tire where I want it to be, the bike will be even more composed. Title: Re: motowheels MW-7000 slipper clutch on my S4Rs Post by: LA on December 16, 2008, 06:14:47 AM It really is one of the best mods you can do.
I had a Yoyodyne on my old S4R and loved it. Just loved it - that is until I left my switch on and killed my battery. No prob I thought. The fuel pump still worked and I'll just bump start it. Oh no you won't. Push it off the biggest hill on earth and the slipper does it's job and the wheel won't turn the engine a lick. Course it's not he slipper's fault if you leave the switch on. :'( LA Title: Re: motowheels MW-7000 slipper clutch on my S4Rs Post by: hypurone on December 16, 2008, 06:41:14 AM It really is one of the best mods you can do. [thumbsup] I have just installed the Yoyo on mine, but the weather has turned to shit and there it sits in the garage. got more "fondling", drooling, "bench racing" miles on it than road miles! :P Title: Re: motowheels MW-7000 slipper clutch on my S4Rs Post by: Capo on December 16, 2008, 11:02:23 AM I wonder how they start the WSBK with the roller on the rear wheel.
Title: Re: motowheels MW-7000 slipper clutch on my S4Rs Post by: jesse370 on December 16, 2008, 03:33:59 PM Thats a really good question? I wonder if they just overcome that with a whole bunch of force? I mean if you hit the rear wheel with enough torque it should turn over...right?
I kinda like that idea....its a extension of the just use a bigger hammer ideology, but that doesn't mean its anywhere near based in reality... As for that pin idea, you would probably have to pull the clutch cover off, but I usually carry a few allens with me and thats a easy thing to do if it would mean being able to bump start the bike. BUT with that being said my bike must hate me or I'm just so short its tough to get the bike going fast enough in a parking lot to bump start cause the ONE time I needed to do that, it would just lock up the rear tire and drag it. I love my sleeper ;D hypurone: bummer dude, this weather is keeping me indoors too. :'( Title: Re: motowheels MW-7000 slipper clutch on my S4Rs Post by: Capo on December 18, 2008, 04:28:26 AM If you look at this video you will notice the mechanic remove something from the clutch after the engine starts.

[thumbsup]
The feel at the clutch lever will be a little disconcerting at first. It has to do with the balls coming up on the ramps. Don't worry about it. [thumbsup] LA Title: Re: motowheels MW-7000 slipper clutch on my S4Rs Post by: jesse370 on December 19, 2008, 10:13:56 PM LA is right, its so light something almost feels like its broken.
Title: Re: motowheels MW-7000 slipper clutch on my S4Rs Post by: Capo on December 20, 2008, 03:12:56 AM I can feel a little 'click' when operating the lever.
