Title: Motegi GP 9/28 (spoilers!)
Post by: gm2 on September 22, 2008, 07:00:29 AM
Rossi only has to finish 4th or better to win the title.  which is exactly the spot Stoner was in going into Motegi last year.

Rossi: No pressure to win title in Japan (http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/70761)

I don't hold a lot of hope for Stoner winning Motegi.

Capi might be up to the task...

but the Suzuki isn't IMO.

My Prediction:

Lorenzo will crash into Pedrosa who will crash into Hayden.  Stoner will crash into himself.  Leaving ...

1. Rossi
2. Vermeulen
3. Dovizioso

For me, the podium places don't matter. All that matters is that all #46 needs is a lowly 4th place to clinch the
CHAMPIONSHIP

After making progress throughout the season on the Duc it could seem that way, but I tend to think he'll be closer to the front on the Honda.  I think its just an easier bike to get along with, despite his progress.

Casey looked very genuine in his congratulations to Rossi, so that was nice to see.

Also, be sure to watch the 250s tomorrow as well, it was a hell of a race.

the race was more of the same up front.

Hayden getting out early only to let 4 riders by.  He doesn't even look like he is trying.   [bang]  I hope he steps it up next year on the Duc.

oh-hum fight between Rossi/Stoner, and then Rossi just runs away.

Rossi was consistantly off the brakes and on the throtle before Stoner.

Stoner's too polite.  He should just let Pedro deal with his close pass.

He had already won on every track.  He only needed Laguna, Indy and Misano in order to have them all.  He had won at Motegi on the Honda 500 in 2001 I think.

No.

You said he had already won on every track.

And then specified what bike he was on when he won at that particular one.

I pointed out that while he had won there on that bike, it was the only course at which he had not also won on a 4-stroke.

Your statement didn't preclude the possibility that there were other tracks which had only been won on 500cc bikes as well, when in fact Rossi has now won on every track in the modern era of MotoGP.

Not to split hairs or anything.   :P

Maybe it was just the feed I was watching, but the bikes seemed to be getting much more chatter on braking than usual.  That course just looks soooooo fast.

Earlier on, I thought the midget was going to run away with it.  You know how sometimes he just jumps out front and leaves everyone in the dust?  I really thought it was going to be one of those races.  Not so.  Fun to watch.   [moto]

I have no idea how Lorenzo kept it upright after his front tire hit the dwarf's rear.  No idea.  BTW, Lorenzo's body positioning is amazing.  His back is perfectly parallel to the centerline of the bike.

As much as I am a huge Stoner fan, after two years of unRossi-like championship results, Rossi is back.  Bravo.  [clap]  When the machinery is close, Rossi wins the championship.  When there are tire or engine problems that take him out of a bunch of races and open the door, others win the championship.

so fast and then so slow in the corners.  that place is full throttle, slam on the brakes, full throttle, slam on the brakes...

that's only @ Sachsenring  ;)  (...and donington)

i've noticed that too.  geeky, but i really appreciate seeing someone with perfect form like that.

funny then when you see folks like bayliss or corser in comparison.. the fact that they might as well be sitting backwards on the bike doesn't seem to hinder their results.

My favorite line was from Mr. Stoner

"I was physically fatigued...so I had to drop the pace"

 [laugh]

WTF was that?  He was tired so that's why he didn't win?  Give me a break - man up and just say "I was on the verge of crashing so I couldn't keep up"

Being tired isn't a valid reason for not coming in 1st? You're a tough crowd!! Stoner has been pretty well beaten up this season so I think his whining is prolly valid here.
+ he STILL finished second for crying out loud, give the guy a break.

I thought Stoner did a good job.

He stayed with Rossi as long as he could...like a lap or so...

and when he realized he couldn't win without risking not finishing at all he backed off and took second.

Weren't people just criticizing him for not being a smart racer and pushing too hard?

Kid can't win. ;)
