Title: Austinites!! Lend us your ears...
Post by: Pedro-bot on September 25, 2008, 07:37:34 PM
So a few of us Houston folks are planning on riding down to Austin Saturday morning, find a watering hole that evening and return home Sunday. We're looking for some direction where we could find lodging. With all the displaced Gulf Coast families spread out over different Texas cities we think it may be difficult to secure lodging with such short notice. Any help in pointing us to the right place would be greatly appreciated.
 :D

And of course we would love to hook up with some locals for some fun riding.

I work until 12am on Sat. but I can hook up with you after work if you are still out at that time. Also, I have a spare room, a couch and plenty of floor space if any one needs a place to crash. A warning: I live a little out of town on 1626 between Austin and Buda. Call me at 512 300-5060 and let me know what you plan to do. Also, I'll be up for a ride on Sunday.

This should be fun.............

You're hooked up & inked, just get yer asses here safely.......

Due to the drought (?); looking at the road kill, I'd have to say there's a lot of critters searching for water/food....heads up....especially porcupines   .........ouch!!

Also, speed traps (55, HA!) on 290E near the intersection of 183......ACL + UT/ARK = PoPo

Are there any noise laws in Austin?

I ask because I'm incedibly loud and annoying ;D

My bike makes noise too.

Looking forward to meeting you guys. [beer]

It was good to meet Ducatibilt and Chill at Ming's on Saturday. Lucky we all showed up at approximately the same time. Enjoy your ride tomorrow.

Sad to hear about the crash, but happy to know that it wasn't too serious and that no one got hurt. It seems like you guys had some fun.  [thumbsup]

As for the group rides thing, I have to disagree a bit with you.

Group rides should have one of the more experienced riders doing sweep work, and the people that aren't comfortable riding fast should stay towards the back, so they don't ruin the fun for those wanting to go faster.

When the guys in front are going to cross an intersection or go into another road, that's when they stop and wait for the others. This way everybody can ride at a pace they feel comfortable with and have fun at the same time.

Can't disagree with you on the tools though, they are elemental.

In theory, no one wants to spoil anyone's thrill.  But, let's say that the rider in front is 10 miles away waiting at the intersection, and the last rider crashed bad.  Then, everyone decides to wait another half an hour before someone rides back to see what happens.  That fallen rider may need help right away.  We all know that Vince is a fast rider but yesterday he was behind a pack of real fast riders when he fell.  Fortunately, Frank, Ivo and the rest were riding behind to quickly assist. OK, Frank don't get offended.  We know you are the super expert rider, but I have great respect that you are always there looking after us slower riders :).  I agree that slower riders should always be in the back.

I'm sure there are groups out there that ride for themselves.   ;D Hey, there's always the track in my opinion.  The rules on the road should be different because many things do go wrong.

I certainly would spoil my day of fun any time to make sure I watch after my fellow riders.

That's why one of the best riders rides sweep. That's the last person. He will be riding well within his limits because he will be behind someone who is not as fast.

A big thanks goes out to the Austin people for the hospitality shown over the weekend.

Paul and Scott, thanks for hosting us Friday night and taking us out to dinner.  The drunken coed show at the restaurant made for a good show.  Vince especially seemed to be enjoying the view.

Good to see some familiar faces (Tim, Ivo) and meet some new ones (Laura, Rich) on Sunday.  It was unfortunate that the ride had to be cut short.  Hopefully, we'll get another chance to head over there again.  You guys have some great roads around the area.

I hope Damon made it back to Houston without any problems.  I was reminded again how tedious the ride back on I-10 is.

Thanks for coming out, had a good time riding w/ you guys again.   :)  I'm glad we had enough tools to get Vince back into to civilization.  Hmmm I suppose I better re-stock my pink zip tie stash......

Hey mang, was great meeting you Saturday. What a coinkydink that we bumped into you at Mings. Don't forget to give us the heads us when ever you head this way. [thumbsup]

ok, i guess not. Closed partay or what?  :-\  :'(

Yo 'Enzo, sorry we missed having you out yesterday. No PC access when we got down there. I didn't check the board until today, I was in contact with the other Austinites by phone.  :P

Laura, Richard, Tim, Ivo, Scott, Paul; it was great riding with you yesterday (some of you for the first time). I'm really jealous on the roads available to you. I would have enough fun just riding to Scott's place when compared to the straight flat roads out this way.  :-\  A special thanks to Paul and Scott for getting this thing together for us.  [bacon]

Houston, you can "be my wingman (men/significant others) anytime"..........and are always welcome back (duh)...

I've been having major difficulties logging onto the DMF board, so my "retaliatory strike" is tardy......

There is no other feeling quite like riding with your friends, and youze guyz are my friends....unfortunate that Vince went down,  that's really a biatch, needless to say it was fantastic to see all you guys and go for a ride.....

Alvin, you're right in your analysis, I would like to add mine:

If you commit to riding with your friends.....show up at the specified time......holding up 10 others for close to an hour is jacked up.

Having ridden with the Frank, with the Vince and with the Joe I assumed everyone was near the same skill level, my bad.  I would hope to be able to ride with you all again, this time adjusting for others.

We here are so used to each other's riding abilities we know what to do for each other....more rides will solidify  that side of things............

Lorenzo, IZ, as the dynamic was constantly fluid, I just failed to get back to the computer in time.....plain and simple.....

Joe, Frank, Damon, thanks for the PMs, but it's been hell trying to return them....slow slow board.......so please accept this blanket Thanks Pardner !!!!

Besides, where are you gonna find such outstanding roadside engineering excellence like this??  Ivo and Tim should work for Nasa !!  (or perhaps AAA)    *editors note*- yup those are "PINK" zipties........how de reguere......
(thanks M-1 for the pic)

Glad to hear that Vince is ok.  At least he has a better story than I do.

You guys are mechanical geniuses!  I mean... come on, how many people would know that the pink zip ties were sturdier than black ones?

Sounds like it was fun except for the low-side.

I'd love to go for the next outing if there is room.

no worries gang! I just need to get out for a group ride soon. Im going to take my dad up to Marble falls tomorrow to break in his "new" 1975 CB360T with 3500 miles. That should be fun.

I saw that IVO posted the meeting place but I had already turned off and didnt see until the next day. Larger riding groups can be a challenge but come on isnt it more fun? I like pulling into gas stations with 10 ducs and people looking jealously, knowing that whatever they are doing that day cant possible be as fun. (with the possible exception of a boat)

I am always a fan of splitting into 2 groups and just meeting at the lunch spot. The difference between a 90-100mph group and a 70-80mph group at the final destination is about 3-5 minutes. Just enough time to take the gear off and get a table...

Sorry to hear about the fall, that would have freaked me out. Glad everyone is ok. nice bike too.

L
