Title: if you have a bmw 335i
Post by: That Nice Guy Beck! on September 25, 2008, 09:35:28 PM
don't disconnect the battery and then close the trunk. that is all.

No emergency release cable.

Is the battery in the trunk on a 335i?

The new thunderbirds possibly have the same problem, except for a emergency trunk open behind the drivers seat.

I should think if ford would think of a back-up plan, bmw would.

It never hurts.

A few more fires under your belt and you'll catch up to me. Kinda scary, no?

A co-worker was stupid and locked both his keys in the trunk of his Z4. Dealer had to order the keys from Germany after he had to go to the DMV and get a temp license (wallet in the trunk) and new registration papers. Then they wouldn't spot him the $80 for the new keys after they already had possession of his car and they knew his wallet was in the trunk. He had even bought the car from them and they still made him jump through all these hoops.

Lucky for him he just bought a 1098 so he's switching to that as his primary for now and selling the Z4.

I took my car in for its first oil change and BMW found the car was chipped so they re flashed the ECU and made it stock again (50 hp loss)
so I had to disconnect the neg terminal for one hour so the ECU could re adapt to the chip, I closed the trunk. A swifter duster helped me get it open, dont ask.

Why the make the beast with two backs would the dealer alter the car without permission from the owner?

I disagree. They would have seen that the car was chipped when they plugged into it and should have left it alone. The service interval light is controlled by a different computer than the engine computer which is what you chipped, so there should be no reason they had to change anything. Sorry, my $.02

My dealer did the same thing on my "tuned" escalade.....dont know how many hps it lost....used to almost chirp second and get 18mpg loaded and going 80 on the highway.  Now its sluggish and gets 16 if Im lucky...

Service Manager at my dealer said my computer had an aftermarket tune on it and the mechanic broght it back to stock so as not to void the warranty.  She looked at me like I should have thanked her.....I hate car dealerships...

So....I didn't think BMW would actually be this lame, so I checked the 328i. Way up under the trunk lid....there is a hidden tumbler for a key.

Does yours have one, by any chance?

[roll] Now you got me wanting to check the trunk on my dad's 138.

Re-reading the complaints about the dealers doing stupid things reminds me one my dad just had. The seat moving mechanism broke shortly after he bought the car so he took it to the dealer to get it replaced. But when they replaced it they gouged the rail that the seat belt attaches to. So my dad takes it back to get the rail replaced and then they forget to put the seat belt back onto the rail after they replace it!  [roll]

it would have been easier to go throught the deck lid with a sawzall and get a new trunk

I once had a dealer steal my K&N Air Filter and replace it with a stock paper piece of shit when it was in for an oil change.

I didn't discover it for a month or so later when I went to clean out the filter.

Called and pregnant doged at the service manager and he ended up buying me a new one.

got rear-ended and it took 2 months for the trunk to come from Germany!!!  not cheaper on the Z3.

can't lock my keys in a 2000 Z3 - need the key to lock the trunk!!  They're so smart - they think of everything!!  it has a push button trunk release, so don't need the key to open the trunk.

Is that the twin turbo?

My bro and his wife bought one a year or 2 ago, can't recall.

That thing is bad ass to drive, hard to obey an sort of speed limit, though.

does the 335i have the jump terminals under the hood still (my '97 328i has a pos. terminal on the firewall)?  you could have energized the system with a 12v battery hooked up there.

Old boss got a ride from his wife in their bluetooth-key equipped car.

His wife drops him off and continues drive to work.

Wife goes back to car later and realizes he's got the key, not her.

Seems like they still have a few bugs to work out in that system. And like many BMWs, they rushed the development of a feature before thinking it completely through (http://themobileexperience.blogspot.com/2008/03/bmw-idrive-still-sucks.html).

Still, a little voice keeps telling me I need this  (http://www.motogadget.de/en/m_lock.html)for my bike  [evil]

Are you genuinely curious or do you just answer questions with questions?  To be fair, I only asked if you were still paying on it because it came off the top of my head and I was curious, so I posted.  I'm pretty direct and lack the evasiveness that others commonly display about matters of money, and although the answer would have no bearing on your character it's clear you are uncomfortable responding about it so simply consider it dropped.
