Title: Road rager fun-amazing how it takes so little to set people off.....
Post by: Popeye the Sailor on September 26, 2008, 09:54:42 AM
So last night, coming home from the parts store (in the cage), some idiot had decided to just stop on the side of the road (multi-lane road), in the lane. Ok, that's fine-stupidity happens. I begin working my way into the next lane over, and as I start to get near the car, idiot throws open his door as wide as it will go, and steps out in front of me. I swerve around him (lucky for him), and while I do this, having no horn, I blip the throttle as a sort "hey you idiot-look out what you're doing".

This pisses him off enough that he leaps back in the car, and chases me down, screaming obscenities, etc. So, him being in a civic, and me being in a '62 ford, I jumped on the highway and floored it, put some distance between us, got off, made it through a light that he got stuck at behind some other cars, and drove on home. Friggin' annoying as shit. I'm not sure what he intended to accomplish, but if he had managed to keep up, I would've just pulled in the local police department.

I swear people weren't this easy to set off on the east coast.

Nah, we're pretty laid back if you stay out of the really big cities ~

Maybe that's why the engine rev set him off. Wasting resources.

He was hyper-miling.

Car stalled out as he tried to eke every inch out of the previous accelleration.

He saw you coming and was hoping you would push his car with yours so he would not have to use any more gas.

You not only passed him but by blipping the throttle you spat in his face, saying, essentially, "it's only oil, dude."

His rage took over and he tried to hunt you down to turn you into bio-diesel.

Sounds like half a story. You probably pissed him off miles back and he was calling you out.

You are a better man than I am... I would have let him follow me and then seen what he was all about.  Sorry, I just can't take people like that.

Unlikely-I had been in a parking lot for quite some time before I even turned out.

Who knows, but given that he gave chase, it couldn't have been that broken.

The sort of idiot who chases someone down for this sort of thing isn't the reasonable type. I'd basically end up beating the snot out of him in the street. Not really productive, IMO.

I had a guy in a car chase me down on my bike. Luckily DucPete was with me and caught up to him and punched his mirror out. Dunno what I woulda done without him other than try to keep running. Scared the guy enough to stop and we took off.

To this day, we have no idea why he was screamin and yellin and tryin to hit me.

I  had a similar experiance about 6 months ago. Started with a lane change (in my truck) around a very slow moving vehicle. He takes offense for some reason and starts following me (with his three teenage kids in the car). I was going home but of course didn't continue toward my home. After a few obvious manuevers that indicated with 100% certainty that he was following me, I let him pull up beside me a bit at a stop sign. I showed him my badge and said, "You are following the wrong guy." He couldn't drive the other way fast enough. I still don't know what I did or what he thought I did.

Had a couple road rage incidents on a ride to the Oregon coast from Portland the weekend before last.

Local dude in his truck towing a boat flipped us the bird because we passed him (legally, with no double yellows, etc.).  I suppose he expected us to follow him as he drove 40 mph down the (55 mph) highway.

Later, three of us came upon a 2nd local dude on a twisty road.  A bit more of a challenge to pass him due to the twisties.  The first 2 of us pass him and I see him flip the bird out his window at my buddies.  I hang back and wait for my opportunity, and when I start to pass him, he swerves at me, going into my lane, trying to scare me (or kill me?) I suppose.

I don't get it.  Some people are just Richard Heads.

Be careful out there.  On a bike, discretion is the better part of valor.

I haven't the faintest what you're getting at. I can't tap the loud pedal with my foot? Am I missing something?

Maybe Francis thinks they are slow  ???

In any case I had a person also chase me in a cage. He tried to run me off the road.

He then passed me and stoped ahead and started to run towards my vehicle. He jumped in front of my Car. I had to swerve
and go in the on coming lane while there was another car coming in that direction or I would have killed him.

He hit the cement and rolled a few times ran back to his car and continued to chase me. I lost him at a 4 way intersection on skyline.
That all happened about 15 years ago =)

Hit/blip/tap the gas - cars
Blip the throttle - motos

So, if you throttled your Ford ...

So....does that mean you can't blip the throttle on a diesel? One does not necessarily hit the "gas".
