Title: Side Carbon Fiber Air intakes. Post by: CairnsDuc on October 01, 2008, 12:35:57 PM G'day All
I know they are made, but lately I just can't seem to find any online. Now that we are coming into our Summer season here in Sunny Far Northern Australia, I want to try and push a bit more air towards the Vert Cylinder and with Average Summer Temps of 34 to 38 Degrees C and 95%+ Humidity for 3 months. And while they may only offer a token amount of extra air to the rear cylinder, every little bit helps. Plus I think they look just Tits as well [cheeky] Any suggestions as to where I can find any? I remember somebody putting a link in another thread for a Japanese(?) company that made some nice gear (expensive) and I'm pretty sure they made them as well. Thanks for any suggestions [thumbsup] Title: Re: Side Carbon Fiber Air intakes. Post by: supertjeduc on October 02, 2008, 04:33:56 AM Hi
Do you mean these? http://cgi.ebay.de/Ducati-monster-carbon-luftcanale_W0QQitemZ280271159588QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item280271159588&_trkparms=39%3A1%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A10%7C240%3A1318&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14 Don't think they work ,in fact i think temp will go up with these things (frame less open) If you want more cooling get some Podfilters en remove the airbox Title: Re: Side Carbon Fiber Air intakes. Post by: CairnsDuc on October 02, 2008, 02:08:51 PM I have kept searching in the mean time since I posted this topic, and I seem to have struck the same issue, most people have found the cooling effect is minimal to non existent.
Might give em a miss me thinks. Thanks Title: Re: Side Carbon Fiber Air intakes. I had them on my old M900Sie and there was a noticeable difference in engine temp (lower) after I installed them. They definately direct air over the vertical cylinder. Interesting, Was it lower oil Temps? I see the amount and size of the fins on the Vertical cylinder is much higher, And with the design of the bike I assume the airflow will be a bit limited. But I wondered if the limited area these presented would really make that much of a difference. Title: Re: Side Carbon Fiber Air intakes. [thumbsup] Title: Re: Side Carbon Fiber Air intakes. Post by: psycledelic on October 04, 2008, 11:18:04 PM I have a set on my 06 S2R 800. They were advertised for a S2R800, but when I recieved them, they were to big and I had to do some serious cutting to make them fit. I put them on the same time that I added the belly pan and it seemed to me that my bike was running a little cooler. I couldn't tell you for sure though. I mostly just liked the look. If you want to see some pics on an 800, I will get a couple in the morning when I get home from work and post them.
Title: Re: Side Carbon Fiber Air intakes. Post by: CairnsDuc on October 05, 2008, 01:45:00 AM Pics Please! I always though there were some smaller units on the market, I like the one's fitted to the BOMb.
I was thinking put them on for Summer and then take them off in Winter. But if you could post some Pics that would be great! Thanks [thumbsup] Title: Re: Side Carbon Fiber Air intakes. Post by: psycledelic on October 05, 2008, 05:28:50 AM Here is a couple of quick pics I snapped. Sorry for the lack of effort in presentation, but I have been at work for 14 hours.
(http://i34.tinypic.com/313htec.jpg) (http://i34.tinypic.com/34sgm83.jpg) I am still working on the fitment a little bit. It is probably gonna take another hit or two with the dremel tool. I am taking my time taking the carbon away because I haven't figured out how to add it back yet! Title: Re: Side Carbon Fiber Air intakes. Post by: CairnsDuc on October 05, 2008, 04:30:07 PM What exactly are you having to trim to get them to fit?
I had a look at the one's on MotoWheels site, but the Picture is a bit small to see any detail. Title: Re: Side Carbon Fiber Air intakes. Post by: Monstermash on October 05, 2008, 04:56:50 PM psycledelic,
The reason you had to cut the intakes is because you have the wrong ones for your bike. The newer style that fits your S2R are shorter. It looks as though you have the older style. Title: Re: Side Carbon Fiber Air intakes. Post by: psycledelic on October 05, 2008, 05:30:13 PM Yea, the guy I bought them from said he bought them for his 900, but that they were actually for an 800 and wouldn't fit his bike. He even went to the Ducati website and pulled the part number for the 800's vents and posted it on the auction. When I recieved them and questioned him on it, he told me that they were a direct replacement for the stock set. Come to find out, he thought they were the side panels under the seat ???. Anyway, long story short, they were new DP vents and I got them for $136 so I figured screw it, I would make them fit. The next free day I have, I am gonna take more off of the bottom and try to tuck them into the frame a little better. Then, I can use the mounting straps that came with the vents. I will probably end up making a mess of it, but hey, its fun trying.

Title: Re: Side Carbon Fiber Air intakes. Post by: CairnsDuc on October 07, 2008, 01:08:28 AM Thanks [thumbsup]
I will check it out! Title: Re: Side Carbon Fiber Air intakes. Post by: psycledelic on October 07, 2008, 03:40:45 AM Were they for an M800 or an S2R800? There is a difference. Yea, the ones I bought were advertised with the Ducati part number for the S2R800. I checked on the Ducati accessory page before bidding and matched it with the part number posted on the auction. CairnsDuc, the vents on the ebay auction look identical to the ones I bought. I assume the ones for the S2R's are just a little smaller, but you might want to contact the seller if you decide to bid and at least get a length measurement. The vents that I actually recieved were about 1 to 1 1/2 inches longer then the spacing in my frame that they should mount in. Should be pretty easy to check and might save you a lot of hassle and/or shipping. Title: Re: Side Carbon Fiber Air intakes. Post by: CairnsDuc on October 07, 2008, 12:20:33 PM I had a look, they are a little bashed up and he is only shipping to the USA anyway.
I'm not buying from the US until the dollar gets a little better, The little Aussie bleeder is down around 70 cents at the moment, has to be 80 cents or higher, so I might be holding off for a while yet. Looks like I'll have to ride faster to get more air into the rear cylinder [thumbsup] Good Morning your Honour! Speeding? No, I was merely traveling at that speed to assist Air flow to the Vertical Cylinder of my Air cooled Ducati....... [cheeky] Title: Re: Side Carbon Fiber Air intakes. (http://i20.ebayimg.com/01/i/001/12/84/7141_1.JPG) Need to take those plastic wedge frame protector thingies off to fit them. How do they come off? Title: Re: Side Carbon Fiber Air intakes. Post by: CairnsDuc on October 18, 2008, 12:50:17 PM Who are they from weemonster?
Title: Re: Side Carbon Fiber Air intakes. Post by: weemonster on October 18, 2008, 01:10:42 PM They are made by a now defunct company called Roadracing Italia.
Finding stuff now is a bit of a lotto I got mine from jack lilley Triumph in the UK i think they were the uk importer and are clearing the stock, I know that a few months back Fast by Ferracci had some roadracing stuff. A wanted ad on here may turn up a few leads. Title: Re: Side Carbon Fiber Air intakes. Post by: CairnsDuc on October 19, 2008, 12:20:20 PM Thanks for that info, I'll keep a look out for them.
