I'm putting together another letter and would like to get an idea of DMF members who have been to CSS. Please let me know. And pest your friends in the local forums here who never look at general monster forum stuff.
Chris
What is the purpose of the letter to the CSS school coming from the DMF?
Is this to get discounts/special prices/etc? In other words just want to know the reasoning for this letter as I never read about a previous letter being sent?
Thanks.

2001cromo and I have completed levels 1-3. And I know of 2 more DMFr's as well.
Again, what is the purpose of this letter?? What are we responding to?
you may want to post this in riding techniques instead/also?
Get your hat...
get your tinfoil hats here.... [roll]
Both B (Rogue) and I have attended through level 3.
Thanks for putting this together. [beer]

Ive done level 1, does it matter that it was done in Sydney Australia?

Did Level 1 in 2007 at Thunderhill. I probably would of done level 2 this year if they would of had it at Thill again.
very interested in doing level 1 .. discounts could make it happen sooner :)
I'm trying to pull the funds together to do Level 1 and Level 2 next year at VIR or Barber.
did a weekend level 1 and 2 in vegas back in jan, very good school, good experience overall.
Dad and I did L1 at Streets of Willow back in July [thumbsup]
Probably will do L2 and maybe more in the future...
Statler, I applaud your efforts. [thumbsup] I am very much looking forward to going to California Superbike School someday, I dream about it regularly, but someday just never comes... A discount would surely enable me to go sooner than later, and I can imagine a lot of other folks here also would be moved to action if there were a discounted rate for a such a promising collective group such as DMF members.
I look forward to your success, and I'll be anxiously awaiting hearing what comes of it [popcorn]
I've never done it, but about half of SoCal has. gm2 has done all 4 levels and I think he's cornerworked for them about 100x too.
I've always wanted to do it, but I never got around to it. Now that I've just gotten back on the track in the last month, it's next on my list of things to do.
To anyone thinking about doing it:
From EVERYONE I've ever spoken to that has done it, they say it is money well spent. I've heard mixed reviews of just about every other school (especially CLASS), but I've never heard one person that said that CSS (not cascading stylesheets) wasn't worth the money and more.
i went but will not return. Try Freddie Spencer out instead.

This [thumbsup]
I've done CSS Levels 1-3, and Lee Parks 1 & 2. I think best bang for your buck goes to LEE PARKS!! (So much more is covered as well.) [thumbsup] [thumbsup] [thumbsup]

I have Parks' book total control. Great info! Did he teach the class you attended? It seems like his school is like an advanced MSF.. very interesting that you recommend this one over CSS... maybe Parks' prepares you for the track day and to maximize what you learn at CSS?

I too, have done these same classes.
Is one less expensive than the other? Yes. Two days of Lee Parks is about 1/4 the cost of a two day school at CSS.
Does the cheaper class mean I learned less? Absolutely not!! I know for sure my success/understanding at CSS is a result of the material learned from Lee Parks.
Is one a better value? I'm not sure.
I find the two difficult to compare because each has a different focus. Lee Parks is more focused on street riding, where as CSS is a track school. That doesn't mean skills from each don't cross over; they do.

Yes, Lee teaches some of the classes. Both levels I took were taught by him. I know Ind. Grrrl had him for level 2, don't know about level 1.
Lee's classes are considered to be the next step after the MSF Advanced Rider Course. In my opinion, the only similarity btwn Lee Parks and the MSF courses is that they are both taught in a controlled environment, which happens to be a parking lot.
Lee goes into great detail about bike set-up, geometry, body position....you have the book.....and he covers most of it in the level 1 and 2 classes.
I hope this babble makes sense and helps. :P

Sure does..thank you!.. I was already looking at the October date for TN for parks' school. I have done Bargy's school and an additional track day in Sept.. and to be honest.. I need to polish more my skills to be able to really get the most out of a track day. What I mean is that in order to get better and IMPROVE at the track one must polish and nail the basics of body positioning, line selection, trail braking, etc.. to a T.. it's like trying to run before you walk.. kind of..
P.S: Isn't lee parks on the twist of the throttle reviews series that someone posted here some time ago.. I think he is..
Can anyone explain to me why the 2 day camps are so much money? The one day deals are like 1/4 the price?!
my two-day course compared to my two back to back one day courses were worth it for me...but it was more than twice as much.
The two-day camp had muuuuuch more track time. There were two groups and we kept alternating back and forth. Not three groups like normal days. 7 sessions each day.
About four guys were wiped out with three sessions left on day two...just no energy. nobody felt more riding was needed. I was physically ready for more but mentally pretty tired and ready to take a break. A day off and then more track time would be perfect.
Much more individual attention.
breakfast and lunch.
video each day with feedback sitting with coach watching after.
Nine riders in my group. yes, 9.
so you would occasionally see another person on the track but not often...and you'd allways see a riding coach right behind or in front of them.
downside? their bike only. I'd like to do a two day camp with my bike.
Some of the DMF folks were down doing level four at the individual days just before me and I think they were frustrated with the number of level one students on the track at the same time. The two-day camp did not have this problem. Of the nine of us, we had one guy leaving us for dead, most running similar times, and two quite a bit slower. But it was empty track almost all the time. I think they limit groups to thirteen for the camps at max enrollment.
pricey, but I will do it again maybe every other year and I will start doing track days with a local Duc club now that I am not terrified and I can keep up with the slower folk.
+1 What statler just said.
Man, the 2 day deal sounds sweet, but not sure if i could swing that. Even for the foreseeable future.
$450 I could swallow, but $2500 hurts a man, ya know?
I have been to levels 1-4. I was in the group of level 1's Chris is referring to. I have spoke with 3 people from CSS, they called me regarding my comments on the survey they pass out, and I am assured that it will not be a problem in the future. They had never had so many level 4 people at one event and weren't really sure how to split them up. I will go back next year as a refresher and continue to do track days throughout the year.

A combination of facilities and instruction. I did the Spencer school at Miller which was quite a bit nicer than Streets of Willow where I did CSS. At Miller you run the west track one day and the east the 2nd. At Spencer I had my own bike, and wasn't sharing it w/another rider like CSS. CSS teaches braking before you put lean on the bike. Watch MotoGP riders and they don't do this. The best riders follow what is taught at Spencer.
I also did Lee Parks which was good but not on the level or investment of a CSS or Spencer. You can only learn so much in a parking lot, I spent most of the day in line for drills. The other instructor at Parks was AWOL so it was Lee only, so it wasn't ideal or Lee's fault. But as a student it could have been better.
I also thought CSS selling Dianetics books was ??? [roll]
I've been to Freddie's school at MMP twice. I tried to do CSS one year, but after being signed up all summer, they called me two weeks before the event and cancelled for lack of interest. In any case, a lot of the people I met at Freddie's school had done CSS, Schwantz, CLASS, and others. Everybody I spoke to liked Freddie's school the best, but nobody dogged the other schools.
I'd do CSS (particularly if Statler works out a discount), except I'm completely addicted to MMP and Freddie's school. I'm planning to go again next summer, and if I have any money left I want to try SuperCamp.
I've done CSS L1-2 at NHIS. Would have done 3-4 this year but they couldn't get the track.
I liked it alot and thought the coaching was good. If I had a problem a coach on the next session would shadow me thencritique after the ride.
Very nice overall.
I did level 1 @ 5 years ago. I learned a lot and was generally happy with the experience. I have Codes books and have learned a fair amount from them as well.
My only complaint is Code's vauge statements over the course of the day. How fast can you go through this corner? "As fast as you can go."
He is not vague in his books so why so vague at the track ?
I have always recommended the class to those who have interest and will do level 2 when I do level 2. ;D
