Took a nice 150ish mile ride today. I went through the Highlands NC area twice & crossed the NC/GA border 4 times. Towns encountered: Sylva, NC; Cashiers, NC; Highlands, NC; Clayton, GA; Dillard, GA. I had heard tale of some good riding on a road called "Warwoman Rd in north GA. I set out to find it. The roads getting & returning there were more impressive than Warwoman in itself. Only 3-4 miles of good, tight & challenging parts.
On this road, I passed something like seven of these signs:

After I passed through Highlands, NC following NC28 south and crossed into GA, I was on one excellent road, GA28. Here's a couple turns:

I then found Warwoman, which takes you from GA28 to Clayton, GA. From Clayton, I turned north on 441 and continued to Dillard, GA. Once in Dillard, you can pick up GA246 (turns into NC106) back to Highlands, NC. 106 is a nice road with some great vistas. Here's one looking into the Blue Valley:

As I neared Highlands, I found the road to Glen Falls, it's well marked. It's one mile from NC106 to the parking area and it's gravel. The falls are a 3/4 mile hike downhill to find the falls. The hike back out is a killer. Here's the falls:
1st cascade:

2nd cascade:

Hope you enjoyed looking!

It was nice, lots of twisties, a little chipseal (kinda like what you Aussies call Bichumen sp?) a couple miles of gravel, but some excellent vistas & killer twisties! I should've stopped for more pics, but I get caught up in the ride ~
JM
very nice. [thumbsup]
wow, that's beautiful! :D
Agian, nice photos.
We should have stopped more for pict when we were down there. :-\
I'm horrible at stopping for pics. I should have at least a dozen from Yesterday, but I get excited about the ride & forget to stop :-\ Then I wanna post a report and realize oh... I've got 3 pics [laugh]

at least you didn't get pictures of me try to mate with that planter. [bang] [laugh]
Doh! Yea, that looked painful... :( Glad it didn't leave any damage, good thing you were geared up properly!
JM
oh it did. I have a perma-bruise on my shin. :-\
Oh, that's no good! I didn't know yuo wound up with a permanent mark from that!
JM
It doesn't matter. With all the other marks I have from playing soccer, you wouldn't know it was new.
Shhhh! Hwy 28 from Walhalla, SC to Highlands NC is one of the very best highways in the world. Just don't tell anybody else.
The seven mi. section, the Ga. section, from the Chatooga River and the SC state line up to the NC state line is my favorite. The "tar snakes" freak some people, but not a problem. The Warwoman is OK, but short. I heard there was a crash on Sat. and law enforcement was there more than usual I think.
There may be better places to live and ride in the world than North Georgia and Western NC, but I've never seen em in books and sure as hell not seen em in person.
It was a beautiful weekend here eh?

Yup, great one for a ride!
JM
when i decide to finish my BRP ride i'm going to expect to meet you along the way or at the end. then you have to lead for a while off the rd ;D
[moto] [moto]
I live near the southern end of the BRP in the Waynesville, NC & Maggie Valley NC area, that could work out well as long as I'm not working [thumbsup]
JM
i'll have to burn up the miles and make it there at the end of day 2
and hope i dont' get pulled over too often. [leo]
Yup, keep an eye on the speed... The Rangers and I had a little discussion 2003 resulted in me taking a ride with one of them. Wound up dismissing all charges to the tune $1000, not including what I paid the lawyer that knew his way around.
