Title: buying a new s2r - question
Post by: hunduc on October 07, 2008, 05:19:56 AM

Hi,

I am planning to buy a new (08) s2r soon (it looks like a good time to get a good deal). There is a good chance that the bike was standing for a looooong time on the showroom floor. Is there anything specific to be done before you jump on it, fire it up and ride into the world?   Thx.

The dealer should do the pre delivery checks, if they are reputable [thumbsup]

1k, if I did my hw right, there is no 08 s2r 800.

I am a little worried about the shape of the tires after standing for a long time.

sitting in an air conditioned dealership for one year wont kill the tires

and there was an s2r 1000 in 2008, no 800

dealership should check the bike as was said above. cant hurt to check all the nuts n bolts to make sure they arent loose

You should be very happy. I am with mine. I picked my S2R 1K up at the end of May. Only problem is all of the mods I want to do but cant afford. I will be very busy this winter. If it is your first Duc, be sure to frequent this site often. There is a lot of info here.

Thanks guys.

Same here with the mods- picked up some great ideas here, but if I do them all at once, my wife will kill me.

Cheers

How could she? All mods are in one way or another related to safety, just think about the presentation ;)

Hmmm, sounds like somebody is talking from experience...

But I see your point, for example "this $1400 zard exhaust is important, because it will alert the other motorists for my presence"   :)

You're learning already [thumbsup] Plus the fact that Zards are lighter and will help you stop faster. Even if a mod is undeniably cosmetic only, your argument will be that if it makes the bike look better you will ride safer to preserve the looks AND you will be happier, which is good for safe riding. She can't help herself, she will be charmed by your immaturity and love you for your new behaviour. So, mods are a win/win project.

i've had my s2r1k for about 6 months - no problems with it - just rode it out of the dealer and went great. but its even better now - DP ECU has made a huge difference, smoother, more powerful and fun. and you have to accept the fact that when you buy it you're going to customise it - thats part of the fun of having the bike
[thumbsup]

Picked up my 07 S2R 1000 in June....

No Problems...

Bought a stock exhaust off ebay for $52 ... cored them... saved existing on shelf
Bought a stock clutch cover for $8 ...ebay...sawed it in half...saved original on shelf
Performed a "canarectamy" on the canister .. took 15 minutes max.. cost $0

Runs perfect....

Just some ideas for cheepp mods

OOOOOO i just got my S2R1K 3 weeks ago, so much spankin fun

the only issue i have had is when i rode 10 miles stopped and ate some lunch, when i went to go start it, it wouldn't....but it ended up a wire was being grounded and my battery wasnt getting charged....bad on ducati part for putting it together [roll] but now he fine and wonderful......

i know what u mean with exhaust being so freakin expensive....so i just took the pipes off for now...let me tell ya,its freakin loud 8) that will last me for now till i can get a full system

Though the dealers are hurting, I still think you can get a much better deal used.  I have been seeing some amazingly low prices on clean, low miles bikes on craigslist.  Double check before you buy

thanks for all the info everybody. yep, i try to keep my options open also on the used front, i just do not have too much time to go far away to check out bikes. if something shows up close, i will certainly check it out.

the intro mods i have in mind at this point are bar risers, a clutch slave cylinder and frame sliders...

cheers
