Title: Taste of Racing - October 11th and 12th 2008 !! Post by: Visolara on October 07, 2008, 09:32:51 AM Where: Portland International Raceway (http://www.portlandraceway.com/)
Date's: October 11th (http://www.weather.com/weather/wxdetail/97217?dayNum=3) and October 12th (http://www.weather.com/weather/wxdetail/97217?dayNum=4&from=weekend) 2008 (The weather looks clear and mid 60s for both days!!) When: During OMRRA lunch time, see race day schedule handout for approximate times (Approximate track crossing times: Saturday 10:30AM and 11:30AM, Sunday 10AM and 11AM) Gate Discount: Print out this coupon (http://www.omrra.com/pdf/info_coupon.pdf) for $2 off the $10 gate fee (need one per person) Clieck here for specifics about Taste of Racing: Taste of Racing (http://www.omrra.com/pdf/info_tasteofracing.pdf) $20 for 20 minutes, Taste of Racing is an opportunity for motorcycle enthusiasts to experience the thrill of racing, cornering, and riding fast in a safe environment where you won't get a ticket!! Sound like fun? Want to try it out? Click on the Taste of Racing link above for specific details! Every paid ToR participant will receive: EDR Performance (http://www.edrperformance.com/) coupon for a free baseline dyno of your bike Woodcraft (http://www.woodcraft-cfm.com/Scripts/default.asp) 10% off purchase coupon Cascade Race Tire Services (http://shop.crtsllc.com/main.sc) is offering Pirelli tires at the racer discount SDS Performance (http://www.sdsperformance.com/) will be giving 10% off labor costs (working on a coupon, may not have one by ToR) Dark Horse Racing is running ToR this year, we are pitted on the second row in from the Start/Finish line. You cant miss us, we will have a ToR sign-up sandwich board at our pits, and obnoxiously blue race bikes. We are also accepting volunteers to work corners during the ToR events. If you are interested in ToR but don't have a bike, or are not sure if you're ready for the track, you can volunteering some time and help us by working a corner! Anyone who volunteers to work a corner for us, can ride the next ToR for free! We will also be BBQing in our pits and will feed anyone who help's out. :) Few changes have been incorporated into ToR: - Not a new rule, but one I have to keep repeating. At NO point should any ToR participant pass the lead rider. This has happened at a number of ToR events this year. The lead rider will be very visible, not sure what we will be using this next weekend, but we have used a big red X, an orange Vest in the past, but people still tried to pass him. Please people, do not pass the lead bike, he is there for a reason. We will discuss this in more detail at the ToR riders meeting - Max number of riders changed to 35 - If a rider crashes, all other riders return to the hot pit area (where we start from) and wait for instructions. Two or more control riders will assist the downed rider. If the rider is ok, the bike cleared from any impact zones, and the track clear of any debris, we will resume ToR immediately. If the rider is not ok, or there is oil/coolant on the track that needs cleanup, ToR is done for the day. One of the control riders will ride the downed rider back to the pit area, and Blinky will get the bike after ToR is complete (unless he wants to sooner, remember this is his lunch period) If anyone has any questions, please post them here, or PM me directly. Lastly, I want to thank OMRRA, EDR Performance, Cascade Race Tire Service, SDS Performance, Woodcraft, and all the volunteers who help make this event happen! Hope to see you there! So... is the 10% off coupon with WoodCraft... does that get on top of your sponsor prices? ;D

He just keeps reading it repeatedly looking for the place where you can taste it :-\ Hey I just got a call from your cousin Glenn @ ProTemp. He ordered $1,300.00 worth of nuts from me, Mo. Thanks man! 8) Title: Re: Taste of Racing - October 11th and 12th 2008 !! Post by: ryandalling on October 08, 2008, 09:54:49 AM I think the people that actually taste it are the ones who ruin it for the rest of us... tasting the asphalt is not usually a good thing. [moto]

We dont see eachother much as he lives way out in gresham. Title: Re: Taste of Racing - October 11th and 12th 2008 !! Post by: duc_fan on October 08, 2008, 11:06:45 AM Oh, hey Mo, are you gonna be at the track this weekend or is someone else running ToR? I remembered last night that you've got a *really* young one at home, so I didn't know if you'd be at the track and/or if you'd have that spare suit available.
Title: Re: Taste of Racing - October 11th and 12th 2008 !! Post by: Visolara on October 08, 2008, 01:15:34 PM I will be at the track starting Friday with CTT, then Saturday with OMRRA, and Sunday with OMRRA as its a race weekend. Rowan just got some new ear protection today, so he will be there with us.

We dont see eachother much as he lives way out in gresham. Yep we talked for quite a while. I haven't seen or heard from him in about 3 years but have known him for close to twelve years. Good guy, he gets the deals now, now that he's family :) Junior going to the track with papa this weekend? Alright!!! As a spectator of course, for now [popcorn] kewl! Title: Re: Taste of Racing - October 11th and 12th 2008 !! Post by: Visolara on October 08, 2008, 01:49:51 PM Thanks for taking care of him Billy! He is a good guy, I just wish he lived a little closer. Not that Gresham is an hour away, but he lives about 45 minutes, so its a bit of a trek.
This weekends really up to Cierra, if she feels up to it, she will be there with Rowan, but if she is still recovering, and needs to lay low, she may not. BTW - who do I owe beers too for the weight/date pool? Title: Re: Taste of Racing - October 11th and 12th 2008 !! Scott Title: Re: Taste of Racing - October 11th and 12th 2008 !! Post by: NEIKOS on October 09, 2008, 06:38:19 AM I haven't finalized which day. I want to do Sunday so I can catch some races too but Wifezilla made plans for us on Sunday even though this has been on the kitchen calendar for over a month . . . :-\
Title: Re: Taste of Racing - October 11th and 12th 2008 !! Post by: NEIKOS on October 10, 2008, 03:52:31 PM Looks like tomorrow for me.
BB - you got plans or you wanna do what we did last time - plan to meet here at 8:30, you show up at 8:45 we go to SB and then the track? Title: Re: Taste of Racing - October 11th and 12th 2008 !! Post by: duc_fan on October 10, 2008, 04:10:08 PM Sounds like a plan...
Now I need to get my butt outta work, get home, and get to sleep so that I can get up tomorrow like it's another workday (6am). And yes, I'll aim for 8:30... but you can probably expect me at 8:45. ;D Although if I do show up at 8:30 and you're not ready, there will be no end to the grief... Title: Re: Taste of Racing - October 11th and 12th 2008 !! Post by: scott_araujo on October 10, 2008, 11:07:28 PM Izzat SB next to McD where 99w and 5 cross? If so I'll try to meet you guys there in the morning. Just a few minutes from my house.
Scott Title: Re: Taste of Racing - October 11th and 12th 2008 !! Post by: NEIKOS on October 11, 2008, 06:43:13 AM Nope. It's the SB on 99W where The H Mart, The Gun shop, Verison store (used to be Blockbuster) Old Country Buffet, etc are at . . . Ummm . . . used to be a Taco Time if I remember correctly - near/around Dr. Feel goods if I remember correctly, like across the street.
So yah, it's about 4 lights south on 99W from the McDonald's you mentioned. Title: Re: Taste of Racing - October 11th and 12th 2008 !! Post by: NEIKOS on October 11, 2008, 07:01:59 PM Scott and BB good times, good times!
Thank everyone involved in helping/sponsoring it for us Mo. It was a blast! Ummm . . . Oh yah. The photographer on T3 said he gave you his biz card Scott. Can you post the URL here so i can see if he got anything good of me. After today I've touched down both pegs, hit the rev limiter on the bike, zeroed the chicken strips, ummmm . . . oh hit Lily's max speed . . . basically reached every mechanical limit she has. Time to upgrade! [thumbsup] Oh, and Mo . . . please tell Jed I apologize profusely for calling his bike an SV when you see him. And if you think of it you should invite him and Liza to the drinking events. ;) Title: Re: Taste of Racing - October 11th and 12th 2008 !! Post by: scott_araujo on October 11, 2008, 08:52:13 PM More addictive than crack. I'm with you Chuck, scraping on both sides in the turns.
http://www.xqsme.smugmug.com/ (http://www.xqsme.smugmug.com/) Ben Arboleda. There may have been another photog, didn't get his info. No pics up yet. Thanks Mo and DHR. I'll be back. Scott Title: Re: Taste of Racing - October 11th and 12th 2008 !! Post by: scott_araujo on October 12, 2008, 08:15:35 AM A little more detail:
I had a great time, before, during, and after the track session. I was pretty apprehensive not knowing what to expect so I gridded up at the back with the slow riders. I had been around the track once in the back of a pickup on another track day when I was a spectator so I had seen it before. After a few laps I was feeling more comfortable and managed to a pass a rider or two but they would catch me on the front straight. There's only so fast an air cooled twin will go. It was really different from riding on the street. The track is so wide that you have a lot more choices about what lines to pick through a series of corners. Later in the session I was picking different lines than I started with and getting smoother. It does help to follow other people with more experience. I had one nasty mishap heading into turn 7 when I caught a neutral shift, downshifted, and ended up fishtailing in first. Recovered quick and no harm done. I was scraping my muffler on the right and my kickstand on the left. I'm sure I could go deeper with a little weight shift and some better front springs but as it was my first time out I took it easy. This is the most fun you can have on your moto for $20. I was unsure about going to a track day because it is a good chunk of change. After this I have no doubt about signing up for a few next season. I highly recommend doing this if you're curious. I think you got rid of your chicken strips right there.. any more bike lean would be a bad thing. So.. now... it's all body. Looking hot though! [thumbsup] Title: Re: Taste of Racing - October 11th and 12th 2008 !! Post by: Tailgunner on October 13, 2008, 09:18:57 AM Good job Bibleboy! That looks awesome to me [thumbsup]
Title: Re: Taste of Racing - October 11th and 12th 2008 !! Post by: NEIKOS on October 13, 2008, 09:24:23 AM I can vouch he used up every itty bitty bit of his tire . . . not one iota of a chicken strip.
Title: Re: Taste of Racing - October 11th and 12th 2008 !! Post by: duc_fan on October 13, 2008, 02:29:50 PM I took a couple hours and went through the rest of the gallery on onsightproductions... I may have to eat the $69 and buy the CD. There were over 75 pics of me out of the 1200+ they posted from TOR, including a couple of great pic series where the photog followed me all the way around T9.
Oh, I also e-mailed Ben Arboled, (xqsme.smugmug.com, or e-mail: barboled - AT - gmail.com), and he had 8 good pics he gave me for free when I e-mailed him about TOR photos. I'll definitely be donating to him via Paypal in the next day or so. [thumbsup] Need to get his permission before I can post 'em, but if he says it's cool, I'll put some of those up here. Dude... you need to get off the bike a bit more... I think you got rid of your chicken strips right there.. any more bike lean would be a bad thing. So.. now... it's all body. Looking hot though! [thumbsup] Thanks! Yep, after looking at the photo series, I concur with your advice. There was one time I went around T9 with better form (body further to the side). Regardless of room for further improvement, I'm really pleased, considering how upright I was at the first TOR. Made a huge improvement. Also touched down a toe on T4. Whoops! :o No toe sliders on my current boots, so I need to avoid repeating that... Next objective: get my butt off the bike far enough to get a knee down. [evil] This is one of my goals in life. Much to my mother's chagrin... ;D Actually, there are a couple pics where it looks like I have the bike further over than this. May be photo angle... but there's at least one where I'm definitely past 45 degrees. Considering those are just regular Pilot Powers (170/60 in the rear), and the better 2CT is rated for a max of 51 or 52 degrees of lean, that seems like pretty good use of the rubber that's on the bike right now. :) Believe it or not, even sitting fairly upright I had the tires scrubbed to the edge after my first TOR. This last weekend just did some more scrubbing. You can verify with Sabrina, I believe she saw the rear tire of the SS a couple weeks ago at Tuesday night coffee. Anyway, since we all love pics, here's some of the better ones I found at onsightproductions: (http://www.onsightproductions.net/images/bikes101108/TOR/101108_IR6X4434.jpg) (http://www.onsightproductions.net/images/bikes101108/TOR/101108_IR6X4525.jpg) (http://www.onsightproductions.net/images/bikes101108/TOR/101108_IR6X4860.jpg) (http://www.onsightproductions.net/images/bikes101108/TOR/101108_IR6X4866.jpg) Title: Re: Taste of Racing - October 11th and 12th 2008 !! Chuck and Scott, definitely hit up Ben about pics. He may be workin' on putting them up on his website in a TOR gallery, but I don't know for sure. I e-mailed him today, and he promptly got back to me. [thumbsup] Title: Re: Taste of Racing - October 11th and 12th 2008 !!
