Title: SuperTrapp
Post by: corpthug on October 07, 2008, 01:31:15 PM
Hey all,

So my building manager who's a major Harley guy and mechanic offered to put together a custom exhaust system for my S2R800.  He's charging ~$500 for labor and I need to get the supplies, including some tubing etc.  He strongly recommended I get one or two SuperTrapp exhausts but later looking at the website I realized it's just an aftermarket exhaust for mostly Harleys.

Does anyone know of SuperTrapp used on Monsters?  I'm beginning to think with the labor and parts, this is gonna cost just as much a nice set of Arrow or equivalent exhaust system, so not sure if I want to commit just yet.  Good idea?  Bad idea?

If you cruise the parts for sale section on this board, you'll see second-hand Arrows come up for your bike in the range of $800.  A new set of Arrows can be had for around $1100 at gearitalia.com.  Make your decision based on knowing the costs.

Had a pair on mine.
W open endcap, they were kinda brutally loud.
Pricewise, they were back then 2-300$ cheaper than most wellknown brands f a pair.
Just talking mufflers, no tubing.

On some/most SuperTrapp you can play with the number of discs under the end cap - to adjust noise and backpressure - could be a nice way to make it run smoother.

Supertrap makes great, tuneable, mufflers, although I've never seen one on a Monster. Custom exhausts are expensive, whether or not you take him up on his offer, your friend is giving you a really good deal.

I can make you a nice set of custom megs w/revese cones and baffles/packing for a reasonable price.

See my Custom Megaphones thread.  I need to update the pics, as the reverse cones havn't been added yet.

I've had the Ducati Performance Supertrapps on my 900 - Duc used to sell them in Europe a few years ago.

Some thoughts

1. They fookin loud without the discs
2. The mute the proper Duke noise with the discs and sound a bit odd and didn't run very well
3. Quality is no where near the more usual Duke exhausts like Arrow, Termi, Leo Vince etc. Whilst the externals are all stainless steel, all the internals were cheap mild steel that started to rust almost immediately

Personally, I was glad to get rid of them. Better off trying to find a second hand set that going the Supertrapp route
