Hmm, watching Dock at the gym .... no thanks.

Don't know about specifics for the S4R and the exchange rate probably won't do you any favours, but PJs were selling Matris dampers and Oncycles were running them out a while back .... don't know if this is still the case.

In the past I have considered one to try and cover up my lack of ability, but think it probably then adds to the expectation. Is it possible that it may obstruct the tank from lifting up as needed?

Gotta remember to wind them right off when riding in traffic !! ???

The steering at low speeds is almost "locked" and makes it really easy to bounce off cars as you are trying to filter.  ;D

I dont see the advantage versus cost for road use. But each to their own.  [thumbsup] [moto]

I don't think a steering damper is really meant for the road either but it all comes together on the track.

I was browsing and found this (http://ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=12863.0).

I'll be adding one over the winter.

i had a steering dampener on my 07 R6 that I rode around on for both thrashing and commuting and I never had a problem with it moving in slow traffic. You wouldnt even know it was there, until you whip over the crest of a hill and the front lifts and touches down slightly off centre, then suddenly your bloody happy you bought it as the bars are not crushing your hands repeatedly into either side of the tank in a wild tank slapper :) You can easily wind it low or high. I think the monsters need a steering dampener as stock.

Have seen a steering damper cause a problem for a guy when he attempted to avoid a car that pulled out in front of him and stopped!!  [roll] (Not that it happens much to us, yeah right !!)

And he couldnt get it to turn quickly enough with the resulting damage.  :(

I'll keep mine for the track thanks.  [thumbsup]

sounds like misappropriated blame to me. "my steering dampener did it" lol. maybe if he had it set at maximum, but thats pretty daft. I had mine on 1 for in traffic and up to 6 (out of 10) for thrashing.

i have a d/p one that mounts across the front of the tank. mine allows you to lift the tank without removing anything and it's adjustable for resistance too. dunno about dragonworlds mate, just how firm would he have it for him not to be able to turn the thing? crikey!  [bang] mine is set on the fourth click of 20 so there's slight resistance, but, steering dampers are used for lots of different reasons and the most common is to mask a poorly handling or misbehaving bike. Mine is there to minimise unwanted steering input from wind that buffets at higher speeds. i found i was hanging on too firm and fighting the input from the wind which was upsetting my balance, with the damper i can relax my grip lots and there is no (well, almost no) unwanted input from my body being blown around. makes my riding smoother and i carry more corner speed because of it.  [thumbsup]

Tell me about the AU v US right now.
trading at .65 today and I'm supposed to be in N.Y. for 6-7 days after Christmas.
Let's hope we rally sometime soon. Otherwise it'll be worse than the 80's.

Back to the damper, that's pretty good. Better than spending $500-$800 for one at the moment.

Mate, spider imports is scared to pick up a frickin calculator!

the floors fallen out from under the currency and the shipping alone to get stuff back here (which I'd already paid for when it had only weaken 20% instead of 35%) is frighting.

I'm done for this year....and next years list of mods can be done anytime next year I reckon!

I got a couple of radiators and bits of carbon bling to deliver to good boys and girls and that's it!

your work looks really good!

Have seen guys make right twats of themselves coming into the pits after a race and forgetting to back off the damper and going too quick (Read smartarses!!  ;) ) and end up bouncing themselves off a trailer or their missus nice new Lancer for example. [thumbsup]

Hyuk, hyuk. [roll]. Needless to say they havent been allowed to forget about their err umm "accident" for ever. ;D [evil]

Good Point Loony ,IMO the monster needs no damper for the street ,the monster has been an excellent machine more stable than my 999 in some situations, its only now its miss behaving  as my ability to ride it is getting better, Now I am asking it to do things its not happy doing . its for a few reasons that I am going this road 1 being wind buffets when the front gets light the other being head shake out of corners another under power for direction change she's very . on the street it will be wound right back don’t see a need for it, Riding a monster at the level that your having power head shake problems should be left for areas that have lots of space for some pleasant cross country riding if it goes pear shape [thumbsup]

Hey Dock,

Is that Ohlins the one off the Paul Smart? Looks good but pretty big in that spot.

The one I have - Arrow, is a fair bit smaller and it has progressive damping. i.e. as slow speeds it is easy to steer (stops you hitting those damm Lancers  [cheeky]) even when it is fully wound up.

As to road riding - I have found that for commuting, yep no need, but if you take the bike on a road and give it a bit, say the Old Rd, around corners then you will love the damper - takes the sting out of the bumps on our crappy roads. Next thing to note that when you actually make it to a Turismo you will find it is fantastic as you can ride hard and fast and the bike feels like it is on rails.... No shit. At Turismo speed you need all the help you can get and the Damper is a must have, not a nice to have bit of bling [moto]

My $0.02 c

Heh, go and try some Post Classic racing and see how some of the older 2 strokes used to carry on.  :o

In particular those evil bastard triples from the Kawasaki mob. No steering dampers there, just extremely big fore arms and a large capacity nappy for 200k +  tankslappers.  [evil]

Thanks Rusty that was my thinking. But it is usually manageable at the speeds I travel at - would cut down on fatigue I would have thought.

Hey Doc,

Nice bit of bling that but $1200, ouch [bang]

Looks just like the Arrow I have except its is black.  What about a Matris http://www.exoticsportbike.com/what's_this1.htm (http://www.exoticsportbike.com/what's_this1.htm)

These ones are reasonable in price or you could find someone in Aust that has some old stock, ie not inflated by out dollar shrinking....
