Title: Oh Sarah P., ...the song
Post by: Desmostro on October 09, 2008, 08:11:34 AM
This might be suited for the politics section, but it's so quiet around here these days... here.  [cheeky]
I know it must be hard being a republican in such a place as SF. So If you are there, enduring, here's to you  [wine]
I hope we can all be friends.

PS. You have to give a little slack to the NON-gop for enduring the worst 8 years... maybe ever. We get to make fun now. Sorry.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7DIc8jdra0o

Lyrics:

MC Howie goes political with Julie K in this oh-my-god-how-hilarious song, to the tune of "Hey There Delilah".

Hey Sarah Palin, do you tell them in Wasilla
That 4,000 years ago we roamed the planet with Godzilla
Is it true
I am so make the beast with two backsing scared of you
As number 2

Hey Sarah Palin, I think Alaska's very pretty
But just 100,000 people more than Oklahoma City
Yes it's true
Go look it up, Im telling you
Oh man, were through

Chorus
Oh, if you become VP, oh, its Canada for me (2x)
Its Canada for me

Hey Sarah Palin, did you really once inquire
Whether you could throw library books into a big bonfire
God, my eyes
This really might be our demise
This pack of lies

Hey Sarah Palin, just because you're good at shootin
Doesn't mean you have the ammo to negotiate with Putin   [evil]
Are you on coke   [popcorn]
This make the beast with two backsing countrys up in smoke
Oh what a joke

Chorus
Oh, if you become VP, oh what will it mean for me (2x)

Bridge
Just because I can see the moon
Doesn't make me an astronaut, you loon
Your foreign policy expertise is pooh
Do you really think a woman commits
To a candidate just because she has tits
Please tell me that this ticket is not true
I thought that there could be no worse
Than Cheney, but here you are, I curse
The madman who would cast a vote for you
And McCain too   [puke]

Hey Sarah Palin, is it media distortion
Or would you tell a girl whos raped that she could not have an abortion
Its a new low
Who knows just how far you would go
Id rather vote for Ross Perot   [thumbsup]
Hey Sarah Palin I dont know
Where can we go

Chorus    ;D

No kidding.  As much as I love the freakshow that is SF, its political orthodoxy drives me batshit crazy.  I can't endure the unthinking left any more than the unthinking right.  And maybe even less b/c I have higher expectations for them.

I've lost all faith in the electorate.  We're a nation of sheep and a city of lambs.  I'm disgusted by us.  I'm only voting for three reasons:

1)  If you don't vote, you don't get to whine or complain.  I love both whining and complaining.
2)  Prop. 8
3)  SF only -- Sandoval should never, ever, ever be allowed to be a judge.

What's your take on Melon then? I'm interested in hearing an attorney's opinion.

amen. well mostly, except for (1).

i throw that "if you don't vote..." b.s. in with the same lot as the sheepish duopoly that is our political cosmosphere.  until they do away with the electoral college and people stop voting based on listening to 30sec ads on TV; i'm done.

There was once a Japanese group whose mantra was:
If voting changed anything, they'd make it illegal.

There are times I can understand that, especially in our electoral system. First-past-the-post elections, caging lists, and the perception that nothing changes make it easy to lose faith in voting.

Melon?  He's not Sandoval.  I haven't appeared before him personally.  But he's endorsed by almost the entire bench regardless of their party affiliation, including many judges that I've appeared in front of and consider very good judges.  Did I mention he's not Sandoval?

More important, however, is whether Sandoval should ever be a judge.  My answer is no.  If you want more specifics, I'm happy to give them offline.

2)  Prop. 8

OMG.. I just checked the latest poll.. This might pass! I don't really care about gay marriage, but I do care about these sorts of issues being addressed in the constitution..

BTW there is a Pro prop 8 commercial featuring Gavin Newsome that is very persuasive.. Whoever came up with that deserves a gold star, even if I disagree.

<disclaimer>I strongly oppose prop 8, and tend to think along libertarian and egalitarian lines when it comes to marriage.</disclaimer>

A pro prop 8 ad with Newsom? Was it one he appeared in willingly, or one of those ads that takes stock footage of someone, photoshops it to be darker and evil-looking, and overlays grim music?

A lot of the pro-prop-8 money is coming from out of state, especially from Utah and LDS church-related organizations. That bugs me. Let's have a rational debate as Californians on what the state should recognize, and whether it should bow to one religious sect's definition of marriage.

It's footage from him after the CA Supreme Court ruling on same sex marriage.

The pro-Prop. 8 groups ran the ad with the Newsom footage through focus groups and it played really well.

Yeah that's the one... No way am I voting yes, BUT those clips they used really play to the idea that gay marriage is being shoved down people's throat. My personal libertarian view is that the state shouldn't dictate or recognize "marriage" in any way.. Civil unions (2 or more) for all!

Good point. I had the same thought. When civil and other rights are achieved by judicial interpretation, there's often a severe backlash. I'd much rather see a rational, deliberative process in the democratic realm. But the political system is too timid to truly do that, so sometimes we've got to gain or protect those rights by using the values enshrined in our constitutions (state or national).

Spidey: were you directly involved in that case? Must have been interesting.

Studies indicate that without a solidified 'us and them' attitude and a little misplaced anger, all we'd be left with is self-loathing, responsibility and or beer. Another b word.

my new favorite drink is bourbon and coke zero... I know it sounds a little limp wristed, but something about the coke zero just goes well with the flavor.
