Is the "maint" msg that flashes telling me something is wrong? my bike currently has 1,400 miles. I was under the impression that the only thing that will cause it to come up is the mileage but please tell me if otherwise.
No. you got it all wrong.

Not helpful.
corpthug-according to my manual, mileage is the only thing that sets it off.
Mine went on at 600 for the first inspection. I did the inspection myself and turned it off.

???
corpthug, my understanding is the same as yours that it's mileage based. You say you have 1400 miles. When did it start flashing MAINT? It should start around 600 miles. And is it reading miles or km?
it came up around 600 miles for me as well but yesterday i noticed it come up randomly. i recently lowsided with minimal damage but thought it might have some effect(?)
Did you reset it at 600 miles?
My MAINT message came on at 600, and 6000 miles. '06 S2R 1000.

I had my service a little before 600 and therefor saw the "maint" msg come up afterwards; I thought it would just go away. Is there a way I can reset it?

What kind of bike is it?
I just did this the other day...if its an S*R, push the left button on the gauge display and hold it in while turning the key to "on." Keep it pushed in until the the message disappears.
...or it might be the right button. :P

+1
When posting in the Tech section, it's almost always helpful to specify what year and model bike you have if it isn't already listed in your sig-line.
And just to add to what everyone else has said, the only time I ever saw that message on my old S4 was at 12,000 miles.

Off topic and pointless to this thread. Thanks for trying though, seriously.
Anyway, depending on the bike, some are user resettable and some aren't. My 696 apparently is only resettable by a Ducati dealer, and they want to charge $25 to do it. I am just leaving mine on until my next maintenance is due.

Is this according to the owner's manual, or did your dealer tell you this?

From what I hear the 696 needs some kind of box plugged in to reset it.
corpthug what ya riding?

The mathesis? To reset the "Maint" message? That's annoying.
Really? I reset the message on my 620 after the dealer forgot without a problem. I thought they had the same gauge and ECU package

Both. The manual says something to the effect of see your dealer, so I did and they told me that they charge $25 to clear it. So I'll just leave it there... no biggie.
I think i fixed the problem keeping the left button on the tach pressed while turning ignition on. i think..

696 has a different ECU and gauges from the other '02 and later bikes.
yeah i am sooooo freaking tired of seeing the wrench. i wish there was a way to reset it on the 696.

Do you have the shop manual (I don't mean the owner's manual)? If your dealer tech is cool, ask him or consult the shop manual. I'm no expert, but I'll bet it can be reset without the mathesis.
shadowchaser is the only shop guy i know.

OOOHHHHH 696....damn, I was thinking 695. Sorry. My bad.
Yay for the search option.
I just saw this message for the first time on my m750 i.e. and was worried it was related to the sputter I was getting (probably from not-so-good gas; I usually use premium and had to use mid grade, which gave me sputters in the past).
found this on another site
no FHI...
with the key in the off position, hold the scroll lever in the up position. While still holding the lever up turn the key and in a few seconds it will say PRO MODE, go into the MEM setting and clear it, turn the key off, back on. should be reset
From the '06 s2r1000 manual....
(button 13 is between the gauges on the right)
To remove the “MAIntâ€
message hold down button (13) and
set the key to ON, wait until the
message clears and then release
the button and set the key to OFF.
When the ignition key is returned to
ON the message should not reappear.

696 owners have reported that the method used for the older model bikes does not work for them
edit: let us know if this works. [thumbsup]
there are 9000 posts in this thread that are NOT applicable to 696..be really helpful if somebody has any info about resetting the 696 indicator- it does not access or reset the same way other model bikes do...
thanks!

so far as i know, this is a dealer only reset.
Having worked for a Ducati Dealer, The only way to get the Spanner logo off the Dash is to plug the unit into a DDS and have it reset that way. (according to Ducati Australia's Service Manager anyway)
For everyone suggesting the "hold down the button on the dash and turn the key on" method, as used on the S*R models and others,
that only works on the on the older models (Magnetti Marelli ECU's) the new Siemens ECU's (as used in the 696 and 1100 Monsters) do not use that reset method.
May I suggest trying this method as located by Herm, Can't hurt to try...

a 696 will go into the 'PRO' mode, but that's all, it won't do any of the rest that's described in that thread, or clear the spanner, etc........
thanks
