Title: Could you live without your Data plan?
Post by: He Man on October 09, 2008, 03:20:28 PM
Ok fess up. Whos addicted to their crackberry/PDA?

I am searching for a new plan and phone, and I am having a hard time thinking about life without a data plan. The only thing I use on it is GPS, Email and mobile IM. I could dump Mobile IM entirely. but Email? I cannot live without Email. :(

Hi my Name is He Man, And im a crackberry addict. I've been a crackberry for about a year now and I'm trying to break free.

I hate touch screens. its BS.

And ATT SERVICE make the beast with two backsING SUCKS.

AFter 2 years of lockdown with them, and their shitty services. I no longer text. so I dont need a texting plan.

But I am ALWAYS checking my email, writing emails, and surfing the DMF on my cell. I cant afford the blackberry storm. Way to much $$ I just want email an cell phone. that is it. but no one provides that without data services....verizon....vcast unlimited is only $15 a month!!!! LG voyager is only $129!!!! but that new tmobile G1 looks sweet!! its gonna cost an arm and a leg to pay for data services though. :(

I used 23 minutes of my 5,000 last month.
I sent 7 text messages, out of the 1,000 I could of.

I think I could live without a cell phone.

You've obviously never had a data plan then!

I used 201 minutes of my 5,600 minutes last month (roll over from a 700 a month family plan)
I used 4 text messages , out of the 200 I coud.

I used 129mbs of data of the unlimited. (thats a lot of DMF'ing and emailing)

No way.  I use Yelp! on my iPhone all the time, same with Google Maps.  I don't text a ton (I think I'm a couple years older than the "texting generation"), but I use a shitload of data, especially when you figure email in.

I also don't have the call dropping problems that others are talking about.  In fact, ever since the last software update, I haven't had one dropped call.

Data yes. Text messaging no.

The only thing i seem to get out of my data plan is email and occasionlly Google Reader when the wife drags me to AC Moore or Michaels or I'm stuck at some county office waiting. Granted some of those emails are professional in nature, so getting those in a timely fashion is important. But I was getting those before 2008 when i didnt have a internet connected cell phone.

The text messaging is a godsend professionally speaking. I can communicate with my permit runner in real time in places where she cannot use the phone proper.

My phone is an LG Razor.

No!  Bugs the crap out of me if I'm expecting an email and I can't check it.  Need to find an address?  Done.  Phone number?  Done.

Sprint's only $15 a month for unlimited data isn't it?  I forget, I just have the unlimited everything for $100 a month...

keep the text messages

drop the data

open wifi routers are your friend. when I'm in town I can generally always pick up wifi on my phone from somewhere. I've never had a data plan.

(though I might if I get the android G1....I want so bad....t-mob is requiring a data plan with it too  [bang])

If I didn't need my cell for work I would throw it in a lake.

live without?  sure.   But I'd either make a lot less money or have to be in my office all day.

If it were purely for non-business related stuff I'm happier leaving it at home and doing something like riding or sailing or socializing with friends in person with a beverage or three.

It's a business tool.

15 bucks is correct. My wife's is 25, but she has the LG phone that does streaming Video and TV.

My phone is my scheduler, notepad, alarm clock and calculator, camera, MP3 player, camera and video capture. The only thing it doesnt do is the streaming video like my wifes.

I havent had a land line since January. I havnt missed it for one second.

I haven't had a landline for telephone usage in 10 or so years.  Just dial up when I couldn't get broadband. :(

I don't have a data plan, so yes....yes I could.

The only good thing that can come from our pending apocalypse is the destruction of texting, cell phones, beepers, pagers, and the birth of a new era where people actually have to acknowledge those that are around them.

But, yeah, I know if I had an iPhone I'd be on it constantly (In this case, constantly= 1 hour before the battery dies)

hahaha.

my data plan serves me as a tool. My phone is always stowed away when im hanging out but im more often then not getting stuff done. Its main purpose is to give me access to my email.

I want the G1...BADLY. But, im not a tmobile customer and they want 500+ for it, so yea, suck my left nut. Verizon has shitty phones, but their service seems to be the best.

Tmobile has a flex plan where i have no contract, and i still can get a free phone and just live with a talk plan  (which i dont use for anything but buisness, or telling someone where to meet up). Verizon is a better service, but wont give me a fone with a 1 year contract.

What the balls.
