Title: Get towed parking with no license plate in NYC?
Post by: corpthug on October 11, 2008, 08:08:40 AM
So after getting 3 parking tickets in 2 months (2 of them were in front of my apt building) I finally got pissed and velcroed the plate so I can take it off when I park.  Has there been instances of a bike getting towed because of this?  That would be my only worry.

Also, I still have the sticker on the right side of my frame that has the VIN.  Should I take this off?

Thanks

It's rare, but you could wind up with a total of a parking ticket, no plate ticket and a tow.

I took that sticker of (its on your left side too) and most cops are too dumb to look at the headtube. Which i havent gotten to, but i am going to putty it.

my plate is not velcroed but it slides on and off my license plate bracket. I havent had any problems with it. Most cops walk by and go make the beast with two backs this shit. and just keep moving.

Another time they waited until i walked away and ran back to give me a ticket. i came out 2 mins later from buying something to drink and find a $115 ticket on my bike.

I asked a traffic cop if my bike would get ticketed where I parked it between two cars. She simply replied that I should remove the plate.

Watch the cops in the meatpacking. I work there and park my bike in the open area @ 9th ave and lil w 12th st. I watched a cop look over my bike for a good 10-15 min, got my vin from the frame and wrote me 3 tickets - no standing zone, no plate, and no registration. Luckily he wrote the vin wrong. I have checked for the tickets and so far nothing  ;D
