Title: Side mount license plate mount 4 SSS bikes ?
Post by: ProTeal55 on October 13, 2008, 10:54:33 AM
Anyone make up/purchased a side mount license plate frame for single sided swingarm Monsters ?
I am sure I could make one up, but I wanted to see if anyone was allready running one (pics are nice).
Sometimes it is easier to buy then to build  [beer]

I think he's refering to mounting the plate on the sss.  Sort of like what we see on choppers.
Am I correct ProTeal55 ?

I was thinking of making up a bracket and mouting it on the exhaust bracket bolt spot (so side with all wheel). only problem is I still have the stock exhaust (s2r) for what i am thinking of i need a lowermount boomtubes like configuration. The stock license plate light fits nicely between the passenger grab thingy. would like to see if anyone has done this also.

You are correct sir.
Trying to clean up the bike as much as possibile and that plate in the stock
location is killing me.

Depending on where you live, the plate mounted to the side of the SSS may not be legal...

LOL, neither are those boom-tubes you are riding around with :D

Joining in, I've been looking for a side mounted plate bracket for a bit.  Havn't found one.  Time to make something....either side mount, or one that floats over the tire :)

I live in Chicago, so as long as you arent driving while talking on a cellphone, smoking in a bar, or killing someone you are cool  [leo] The actual law is you can have a side mount plate on your scoot, just the plate cant be mounted vertical. Allot of Chicago cops ride, so they know the motorcycle laws pretty well.

I was thinking about doing something off the stock belt guard mounting holes..

I have one on my DSS - mounted to the exhaust hanger. Didn't require more than some aluminum bar, a drill and a hacksaw to mount.

(sorry I don't have a better pic)

It's funny.
In Chicago, sportbike guys rock their plates bolted to the inside of their back fender.
It is basically blcoked by the rear tire but somehow they get away with it. But if you mount
your plate vertical you will get pulled over and walk out to tickets stuck to your headlite (as me how I know).
Gotta love the city  ;D

first off, sorry i don't have a pick for you, but i can't upload photos here, and work won't let me visit photobucket type sites.
I made one by using the existing chain guard mounts on the swing arm, and two pieces of stainless tigged. the plate mounts vertically following the rear sprocket like a chain guard (not legal in MD).

I mounted mine to the rear chain guard. Now that i see it, I would advise against it, the plate rides inside the wheel. If that comes off I'm F'd. so I'm getting an outbound plate holder made to attach to the outside wheelnut.

I agree, very nice bike.
Diggin the orange swingarm very much.

I like the vertical plate idea like you have, but I would def. get pinched by the CPD [leo]
boys if I ran something like that. They dont car where the plate is on the bike, as long as they can clearly read it.

Hey B-Boy! I'd check the road down from where you live, cause I think you've lost the friggin' whole back side of your bike!  ;D

If you plan on riding in Florida, check out the new laws regarding excessive speed, plate mounting, and wheelies & stoppies. BIG fines, somebody REALLY got pissed at motorcycles.

Getting caught doing a wheelie here in Chicago will get you arrested (and your bike towed) if the "right" cop catches ya.
Not that I am a wheelie guy at all, but it is fun seeing those "cool" sportbike guys getting their extended chromed out busa's loaded onto the
back of a flatbed while they watch on in cuffs.. [leo]

I was reading that somewhere and was shocked. 1,000 dollars i thought was the fine perhaps i am mistaken but thats excessive.

I think it's $1000 for a first offence and then goes up thru 3 phases which lands you a $5000 fine & a felony conviction. The problem with laws like this is that fewer bikers are going to stop for the police, leading to police embarrassment, rider embarrassment, and/or real tragedies.
