Title: Average Km per year Post by: Rickoz on October 16, 2008, 11:29:46 PM Hi Guys & Gals
I've had my Bike now for 3yrs (Nov 05) & traveled 20,000kms so that's on average 6666.667Kms Per Year. Had my car for 4yrs (Oct 04) & have traveled 50,000Kms & This one is 12,500Kms Per Year. So that a total of just 19,166.667Km per year for both for on person. What are you guys doing in the Km per year. Why have i posted this. Me thinks i need to do more k's on the bike & less in the car, you know to reduce my contribution to global warming ;) Title: Re: Average Km per year Post by: goldFiSh on October 17, 2008, 02:14:52 AM 5-7.5 for me
I too need to do more kms on the bike, maybe next year! Title: Re: Average Km per year Post by: Betty on October 17, 2008, 04:28:25 AM Probably a bit less than 5,000km pa on average, but the rate is increasing ... need to get some balance back into some other things though, so I'd say 5 is fair.
Our proper car clocks up well over 30,000km pa and I probably spend far more time on trains than any sane person. But can't go along with the saving the planet line ... running two Monsters is not as efficient as running the car (not as much noise pollution in the car either [evil]). With so few k's pa s'pose I have another reason for riding like a girl ... well not my girl ... ah shit, you know what I mean. Title: Re: Average Km per year Post by: ducsport on October 18, 2008, 02:25:32 AM The ratio is well out for me. Bike is less than 5,000 km per year. Car is 45,000 km per year. I commute by car four days a week for work, a 220 km round trip. Yeah, I know its insane. But after 12 years, over 500,000 km and 13 company cars, you kind of get used to it. Kind of...... :-\
Title: Re: Average Km per year Post by: CairnsDuc on October 18, 2008, 03:04:18 AM my S2R is not even 12 months old and I've just clicked over 11000k's ;D
Title: Re: Average Km per year Post by: Six95 on October 18, 2008, 01:36:15 PM I've been having the same thought for a while now about doing enough k's. My bike is nearly 12 months old and I just notched up 5700kms for the year. On the other hand the car does 33000kms p/a and only gets used for getting to and from work only. I could never use my baby to commute up and down the F3.
I guess it was good to see Nic, Mark and Ty with low numbers. Title: Re: Average Km per year Post by: dragonworld. on October 18, 2008, 03:55:05 PM In 18 months clocked up 28,000k's. ;D [moto]

Now that would be a fun way to get to work ;DI guess it was good to see Nic, Mark and Ty with low numbers. Title: Re: Average Km per year Post by: Dannog on October 19, 2008, 06:32:43 PM I'm commuting every week day and rearly get out on the weekend for a blast :'(
I start pretty early so there's lot of fun to be had getting to work darting in and out of traffic. [evil] I'm sitting just over 10k pa and it's definitely more expensive than catching the train..... but at least I can get to work in 25 minutes in lieu of 1 hour so life isn't passing me by. Betty, you've got to get of the train mate it'll suck your sole dry! Title: Re: Average Km per year Post by: Betty on October 19, 2008, 06:51:40 PM Betty, you've got to get of the train mate it'll suck your sole dry! What? I'll get dry feet from catching the train [laugh] Apparently I already exhibit a couple of vampire-like qualities, so perhaps I am already missing my soul :-\ Title: Re: Average Km per year Post by: bigiain on October 19, 2008, 08:24:44 PM I've got about 210,000km on the Monster and it's gonna be 10 years old on the 2nd of December, so a bit over 20,000km per year on that.
I've also done about 220,000km on the Spada which I first got a year before the Monster, so another 20,000km per year there. (well, that's split over two Spada's really, the red one got killed by a HiAce while parked, and got replaced with they yellow one, which is now looking sad out the front of work after getting mown down by a Falcon while stopped at a red light.) I haven't owned a car for well over ten years though. I do a ~80km round trip every workday on one or the other of the bikes... big Title: Re: Average Km per year Post by: bigfella on October 19, 2008, 09:09:32 PM mine's a 05 picked it up with 6 km's on the clock in june 05
she's still to hit 10,000 got her serviced in january with 8,900 today 9,668 might just go over 10,000 by the next service in january maybe i don't ride enough :-\ Title: Re: Average Km per year Post by: Dannog on October 20, 2008, 01:10:51 PM I haven't owned a car for well over ten years though. There is only so many things you can do on a bike.unless of coarse you've got a skill like this guy. (http://www.snice.co.nz/bbqbike4.jpg) .....maybe skill is the wrong word Title: Re: Average Km per year Post by: dragonworld. on October 20, 2008, 01:32:48 PM Big, I don't know how you can get by without a car. (http://www.snice.co.nz/bbqbike4.jpg) .....maybe skill is the wrong word Apparently that is pukka protective gear for Maori riders in Un Zud. [thumbsup] It was hard rubbish day in Kew and this Kiwi guy took a liking to the BBQ someone had turfed onto the nature strip, (According to the Melbourne Sun Herald) [moto] He must've been wanting to suplement the river rocks in his Hungi pit with some Pakea cooking implements. ;D Title: Re: Average Km per year Post by: BribieDuc on October 20, 2008, 08:06:29 PM I'm lucky enough to do close to 850km per week, commutng between Bribie Island and Brisbane CBD. Good run, about third open road, third m/way, third on city roads. - Monster is almost at 90,000 km (alll mine) and has had no real dramas at all. Had a tank rust out at 40K, front wheel bearings at 75K and a gear lever return spring at 80K. Weekends, I would rather ride my my Ducati Monza around. ;D
Title: Re: Average Km per year Post by: bigiain on October 20, 2008, 08:46:12 PM Big, I don't know how you can get by without a car. I'm pretty lucky to live withing easy walking distance of a reasonably good shopping center/supermarket, so grocery shopping is mostly carried home (or for large loads taken home in the shopping trolley). I'm also close enough to just about anything so walking or catching a bus somewhere, then paying for a cab home with larger items works fine (I've done this with a subwoofer and a microwave). Pretty much anything else I buy either fits on the bike somehow, or gets home delivered. I do have access to the work van, which I borrow maybe once every year or two (last time was to pick up a washing machine a friend gave me). We occasionally rent a car for trips - we took a rental Falcon down the south coast few winters ago, and we occasionally get loaned a car (we were off up the mountains for a weekend last year in crappy weather and a friend says "why don't you take my car instead of ride?", so we did), but even without renting/borrowing cars occasionally I'd still be _way_ ahead moneywise - one years rego and insurance on a car would cost several times more than I've paid renting and getting things delivered. big Title: Re: Average Km per year Post by: tricolore on October 20, 2008, 09:01:29 PM Well my bike is purely for pleasure. Owned it since April and done about 3200ks. Car is necessary for me, cant imagine loading a couple of lengths of copper and water blaster on the Duke [roll]

May need to take a posty job so I can reverse the figures. Rob Title: Re: Average Km per year Post by: bigiain on October 21, 2008, 12:27:02 AM Average I do around 5k pa on the bike and about 40k in the car. Yeah, but it's not a ~180km round trip to the start of Macquarie Pass for you! [evil] big Title: Re: Average Km per year Post by: DUCMONROB on October 21, 2008, 01:28:05 AM Yeah, but it's not a ~180km round trip to the start of Macquarie Pass for you! [evil] big No but it would be nice if Mac Pass was on the way to work every day! Title: Re: Average Km per year Post by: goldFiSh on October 21, 2008, 03:08:40 AM that's funny - we just won a job in the gong, and I am in the process of luring one of our site supervisors (who is also a rider) to take the job on cause he can visit the site via the rnp and mt kiera
Title: Re: Average Km per year Post by: Dannog on October 21, 2008, 10:35:23 PM but even without renting/borrowing cars occasionally I'd still be _way_ ahead moneywise - one years rego and insurance on a car would cost several times more than I've paid renting and getting things delivered. You absolutely right there Big! My better half says all the time that we need a second car. The few times I 'ask' to use the car on the weekend or heaven forbid during the week you'd think I was asking for a leg or arm. It's a major deal when the annual service comes around and the cars out of action for a day or 2. It's just amazing how reliatant we become on them. ( :-[ I'm sounding like a greenie) :-X I think I got my way though as I translated 'get a second car' to 'get a bike". ;D Title: Re: Average Km per year Post by: techno on October 24, 2008, 06:32:59 PM I picked up my bike in Nov 2007 with 9,500km on it. Its about to turn over 20,000 so thats about 10K PA. This years Turismo accounts for 4k though.
I work from home so I don't commute. The monster is for weekend fun on tassie roads. [moto] Title: Re: Average Km per year Post by: ellingly on October 25, 2008, 03:26:54 AM I do about 8000 km a year. I wouldn't mind doing more, but I just don't have time. Stupid job getting in the way - hell, I've been away this year more weekends than I have been here.
When I lived in Tassie I only did 2000 km a year with my previous bike (not a Monster). 85-90% of those on tracks though... I don't do too much in the car, maybe 5000 km a year in my car and half that in the gf's car. It's not about the distance but where you go and what you do! Title: Re: Average Km per year Post by: Spider on October 26, 2008, 11:53:53 PM damn good point Ellingly, I'd much rather do 2000km of great touring with mates than 10,000k of commuting.
boy, does my girl get shitty when I take her on the commute, she doesn't like sub-50 kph malarkey! It's not about the distance but where you go and what you do! Title: Re: Average Km per year Post by: ellingly on October 27, 2008, 12:52:03 AM damn good point Ellingly, I'd much rather do 2000km of great touring with mates than 10,000k of commuting. Sub 50 km/h is not a commute, it is torture! Out of my 27 km there is 1 km that is 60. Around 3 can get blocked up but I just go around it one way or another (usually on the gravel verge... it works. Monsters are dual sport bikes, right?).boy, does my girl get shitty when I take her on the commute, she doesn't like sub-50 kph malarkey! I distinctly remember moving up to Canberra from Hobart and putting 1100 km on my bike in less than 22 hours (including the boat ride). Yes, I took the boring route, but I also did more kays in those hours than I did in 6 months in Hobart. None of them made me a better rider (although oggy knobs = great footrests on the Hume). |
