Title: windscreen stabilizer Post by: TiNi on October 18, 2008, 04:16:06 AM has anyone added supports to their windscreen to reduce the amount of wiggle and vibration?
i can't remember where i saw this mod, so any input would be appreciated. i did a search and came up with nothing, so if this has been discussed, please point me in the right direction... thanks! Title: Re: windscreen stabilizer Post by: Howie on October 18, 2008, 04:21:48 AM Here ya go:

+1 the poorducrider stabilizers are great. Choice of colors, if bling is desired. ;D Title: Re: windscreen stabilizer Post by: lazarus7 on October 18, 2008, 07:48:39 AM heres mine.....

Title: Re: windscreen stabilizer Post by: Charlief on October 18, 2008, 12:01:59 PM Mel,
I have them on my bike. They work great and install very easily. Chas Title: Re: windscreen stabilizer Post by: mcgalinmd on October 18, 2008, 03:43:45 PM +999 on the poor duc rider ones, here they are on my blue duc (remember, the fastest color)! [thumbsup]

Not only is the windscreen more stable, it makes it more functional as well...
Title: Re: windscreen stabilizer Post by: Mac_48 on October 18, 2008, 05:59:34 PM I love mine! there always seemed like there was something missing until I put em on :)
Title: Re: windscreen stabilizer Post by: TiNi on October 19, 2008, 04:20:10 AM thanks for the quick response's [thumbsup]
you guys are the best! now i have to decide which color? Mel, I have them on my bike. They work great and install very easily. Chas i must have seen them on your bike at imoc :) Title: Re: windscreen stabilizer Post by: lazarus7 on October 19, 2008, 06:32:00 PM i went with the bike color....
red/ red.... ;) Title: Re: windscreen stabilizer Post by: Statler on October 19, 2008, 06:42:00 PM They're actually on my list, but I can say that an unsupported stock windscreen on a monster is good for whatever top speed I got out of an RS on the straight at VIR with nothing vibrating off and my EZ-Pass staying stuck (I forgot to remove it and the tech guys missed it or said nothing).
So we can safely say 140 plus. Stock 620s should almost be safe. ;D Title: Re: windscreen stabilizer Post by: TiNi on October 20, 2008, 02:38:55 AM really? mine wiggles, even during the warm-up process.... it always has.
i could not find the price on poor duc rider's site, i have inquired about a set of red :) Title: Re: windscreen stabilizer Post by: Dirteagle on October 20, 2008, 05:51:13 AM I didn`t get a price till I e-mailed him. For my S4rs it was $35.00 w/free shipping. Well worth the price in my book. ;D
Title: Re: windscreen stabilizer Post by: DucLeone on October 20, 2008, 06:08:51 AM i use to be a booblehead on higher speeds ,becouse of the flex of the screen ,now the screen is solid and what a difference!!
Money well spent Title: Re: windscreen stabilizer Post by: Privateer on December 28, 2008, 01:34:35 PM I got these as a christmas gift and I can only echo what has been said above.
Made a big difference at highway speed. When I first got up to 60-70, the airflow was so different that it threw me off. I think it's hitting me more up around the helmet. Before, the airstream was hitting me in the neck. The improved airflow also dramatically cut down the wind noise I was getting in my helmet. Title: Re: windscreen stabilizer Post by: scduc on December 28, 2008, 05:20:41 PM I got a set of the Matrix ones for Christmas, wont be able to put them use until March, I think they look better then the poorduc style. On my older Monster the fairing slapped the instrument panel. I have not noticed it yet on my 08', but I do see it flapped around so this mod wil definately fix it.

Simple is efficient [thumbsup] Title: Re: windscreen stabilizer Post by: Goat_Herder on January 07, 2009, 10:55:33 AM The stablizer from PoorDucRider seems like a good idea. But is it just me or is it just a matter of going to HomeDepot for some metal bars/strips and bending them yourself?

But is it just me or is it just a matter of going to HomeDepot for some metal bars/strips and bending them yourself? pretty much. But how much is your time worth over the pretty inexpensive PoorDucRider supports? First I'd have to find appropriate bar stock. Then the amount of time i would spend getting one side perfectly bent, then doing a mirror image for the other.. then getting them painted or powder coated... I'd rather just pay the $35 and have it done with. Andy Title: Re: windscreen stabilizer Post by: Goat_Herder on January 08, 2009, 01:03:33 PM pretty much. I think I can mess around in the garage for an hour and make the supprts myself. Beats sitting on the couch, rotting my brain. Besides, it's fun getting your hands dirty. Remember to get some longer bolts, at least for the upper connection. Post pictures when you're done? Good luck [thumbsup] I'll be here on my couch, rotting my brain [laugh] Already have the PoorDucRiders ;D Title: Re: windscreen stabilizer Post by: NAKID on January 08, 2009, 07:59:53 PM HD sells aluminum barstock VERY similar to the PDR supports I have. To have them bent to the perfect angle and pre-drilled makes them worth the price for me...
Title: Re: windscreen stabilizer Post by: Goat_Herder on January 11, 2009, 09:56:13 PM Well, it did took me longer than an hourto make those brackets. Trial and error took a little longer than expected. But in the end, they turned out decent, in true po duc rider fashion. These are some pics I took along the way.
1. Taped a couple strips of cardboard for measurements and mock up. Total length needed is 8 1/4", with 2 bends (40 and 50 degrees) (http://i388.photobucket.com/albums/oo330/toc30/DSC_1383.jpg?t=1231738843) 2. Bought a 3/4 inche 3 foot long aluminum strip from Home Depot for $5. Made the cut for proper lengh and bent the piece with a vice and clamp. (http://i388.photobucket.com/albums/oo330/toc30/DSC_1386.jpg?t=1231737889) (http://i388.photobucket.com/albums/oo330/toc30/DSC_1385.jpg?t=1231738012) 3. Making the second bend (http://i388.photobucket.com/albums/oo330/toc30/DSC_1388.jpg?t=1231738048) 4. Twist the end and bend slightly to meet the windscreen. Drilled the holes and rounded the corners. Repeat and make the mirror image (http://i388.photobucket.com/albums/oo330/toc30/DSC_1391.jpg?t=1231738224) 5. Checking for size and fit with longer bolts ($2) (http://i388.photobucket.com/albums/oo330/toc30/DSC_1389.jpg?t=1231738339) (http://i388.photobucket.com/albums/oo330/toc30/DSC_1390.jpg?t=1231738388) 6. Final fitting on my M620. I know the finish is not the greatest and they are not as "well made" as the pre-made ones you can buy. But they put a smile on my face every time I see them, knowing that I made them out of nothing. ;D It's one of the kind! Planning on painting the brackets and the fairing yellow to match the tank. I know the feeling of self made. Not that I do it all the time, but nevertheless. BTW - yes/maybe on the yellow paint brackets - definitely no on the yellow fairing (IMO) Title: Re: windscreen stabilizer Post by: Goat_Herder on January 12, 2009, 11:48:55 AM BTW - yes/maybe on the yellow paint brackets - definitely no on the yellow fairing (IMO) Hmmmmm, interesting that you would keep the fairing flat black on a yellow M620. I thought it's looking a little weird with a mix and match fairing. Anyway, I do like the aluminum/metal look of the bracket. I might probably end up polishing it or paint it to match the frame... |
