Title: Chain replacement...done it yourself?
Post by: ducducgooseme on October 22, 2008, 11:15:55 AM
Lookin to change the chain and sprockets on the s.  Anybody here done themselves?  Id rather not jack up an expensive chain, but I'd like to learn to do it myself.  Help?

I'd say I could probably pull it off myself, and, since I'm only qualified to mow lawns, I'm sure you could too.  Just make sure you use the proper tool to rivet in the master link and take out extra links.

Although I've never done it before, I'd imagine its like every other Ducati related repair.. With the special tools it wont be too dificult.. Without them, I hope you have some strong zip ties and duct tape! When I Did mine it was cheaper to have PJ's do it than it was to buy the tool..(at least where I was shopping) and its sure to be an infrequent maintenance I need to perform.. so I opted for them to do it.

Haven't tried that one yet...but I'm starting to enjoy working on the bike.
What chain are you fixing to put on, 520 or 525?

Sticking with 525 on this one.  I have 520 on the other, and though I like the lighter rotating mass, I dont think I would notice it to much on the Beast, and I go through chains too quickly on the Monster.

I got a 14 front and 39 Stealth rear with the EVR gold chain.

bling bling!!

Wanna help me with it?  Between the two of us we could figure it out.

Good choice... [thumbsup]
The 520 is lower mass but also lower tensile strenght.. hence the wear and tendancy for stretching.
I'm definatly up for some wrenching [clap]
