Yeah the article is a bit vague as to exactly what the woman is being charged with. Don't know Japanese law but I would assume that's all they could get her on.

IIRC, Maple story has been around for quite awhile, and is based on a micro transaction model. He most likely had a bunch of time and money tied up in the character.

The woman, who has been jailed on suspicion of illegally accessing a computer and manipulating electronic data, fyi, this is also illegal in the US.
