"Special fences around the house to prevent cats from escaping."
If it is such a badass house for cats why would they want to leave? [laugh]
that right there really kinda underscores the absurdity of it. Cats do perfectly fine in just about any urban dwelling already. And if you really want to you can just by some pieces of cat furniture (like my mom does) that resemble something out of the 3rd level of super mario bros. Hell of a lot cheaper than building a cat-house
I think it makes a lot more sense if you live in japan. They love cats there! ;D
I like the overhead walkway thing, but when I look at it, I just see all the extra places that will collect cat hair and require cleaning!
Still, amazing to see how much people will go through for their pets! :o
Yeah, quite overboard for a pet. Neat architecture though. This is what I did to make my house dog friendly... (http://www.h4x3d.com/feat/themes/tennis.jpg)
when we had cats, we had cat doors.
the thing with a cat door is, it doesn't keep other critters out.
mike noticed the cats were eating WaY too much food,
and one morning he found out why...
anyone ever have a possum sneak into their house?
they are nasty and mean with lots of teeth...

Raise hand...

Killer squirrels get in that way too... [evil]
While I've been a fan of some cathouses.....
That's not the kind I was thinking of.

You beat me to that remark [laugh]
saw a dog door that only opened for the correct dog. Found out the collar had a chip or something that allowed the door to open. Raccoons, skunks, squirrels - stay out!
The overhead catwalk is great. I like it - even if no cat in house. Could display figurines, glassware, pewter, all kinds of cool things. Same things for shelving.
the hole in the sink drawer shouldn't face front. much better to turn to the side. not noticable to humans, but kitty will find it!!

that is TeCH!
We need something like that here. Neighbour's cat is left outside till all hours, and has tried to adopt us. It has worked out our dog door, and now will pop in, then stop our dog from coming back in, and sit there and eat his food.
Little bastard!

That's just the marketing angle. The special fences are there to keep all of the neighborhood cats out of the place.
Its like having a backyard pool times 11tybillion.

Because they're Himalayans. I had a Himalayan for years. You see that flat face? Where do you think all the regular face stuff that normal cats have, such as noses, goes? That's right - where the brain used to be.

Well, he isn't exactly big or nuffin. He will bark, but hey, you know what cats are like.

Possum tastes WAY better'n raccoon. Look at it as an opportunity to harvest your neighborhood's natural bounty.
Not indoors, but I was once feeding a neighbor's cats while she was away & she'd been putting out food for a stray she was trying to capture, spay & find a home for. It was dark and I wanted to see if there was still food inside the little enclosed hutch she'd started to bait. Looked closer, stuck my face down close to the opening, still to dark to see anything, was about to reach inside, and this HUGE raccoon exploded out the door & bounced off my face. Don't recall having to change my shorts, but wouldn't bet against it.

I would be concerned the battery operating the chip would run out and the dog wouldn't be able to come in.
Worse, they might be trying to run in at the time.

My cat is plenty happy with just a piece of string and food in his dish.

I had a cat door in my last garage w/ the door that will prevent others from using it. They use a magnet on the collar to release the door so no batteries to worry about.
