Title: Austin, how long do you let your Monsters warm up in these temps? Post by: gh0stie on October 28, 2008, 05:38:15 AM I park mine outside and usually let it run for about 5 mins before taking off.............on colder mornings like this morning I opted to add a few extra mins. (I also used the choke)
Just wanted to get an idea for what others are doing, I don't want to potentially damage my engine (I noticed that the temp gauge was flashing "LO" even after almost 10mins of warm up, is it considered a no-no to ride while this flashes?) I'd say do what you're comfortable with. I let my bikes warm up for a couple of minutes when it's cold out or until the rpms reach a stable hum. It can take up to 30 seconds for the oil to pump up to the vertical cyl head properly, so I would most definitely wait for at least that long before heading out, but if you've got a good quality oil in there, I wouldn't think TOO much about it. 5 minutes is plenty. If your bike is F.I. it'll probably be ready to roll right away from a fueling standpoint, but cold oil / oil distribution should definately be considered now that the weather is changing ...
