Title: 696 service manual
Post by: fddk696 on October 29, 2008, 09:03:54 AM
Can anyone tell me if there is a service manual available for the 696, and if there is, where can I get it? Also what size tools do I need to remove the drain plug and screen?

Good question. I assume you checked with the dealer and the answer was no?

This is for the owner's manual.  The service manual is what the tech guys would use at your dealer.

Hello, I know this subject has been beaten to death, but I need clarification before i slap down the $25.00.

is this the 'service manual' and NOT the 'owners manual'?

i am looking for the service manual.

Have you purchased this yet? I purchased a service manual for the 696 a while back that was sold as an instant download with the hard copy as an option. I cannot find the link any more. The title cover page looks like the pic shown. I would imagine its the service manual as the owners manual and pdf. parts catalog are free for download at Ducati.com. Also if you use a mac like I do, the format is windows only.

The "widows only" format sucks the big one! So I'm supposed to buy another omputer if I want to use this???

FWIW I spent forever trying to get the 796 Workshop Manual for free and gave up.  I paid for it and I consider the electronic version to be the cat's ass compared to a print manual.  The linking, zoom and search capabilities make life so much easier.  Worth a few bucks!

If you're going to get pirated manuals - then for gawd's sake DON'T PAY FOR THEM.

Those Ebay crooks shouldn't be making any money off you.

That said - I've got the service manual and if you've got a late-model 696, BE CAREFUL WITH THE OEM MANUAL because there are changes to fasteners that should lead to changes to torque specs that aren't documented (because in typical EU vehicle manufacturer fashion they only published a manual when it first came out, unless there's a supplement I now need for the late-models).

DETAILED?

REALLY?

We can't be talking about the OEM one, cause that's not.

it's gotta be the same thing that the dealer techs use..I haven't needed to use it but I'm glad I have it.  Ill pull it up when i get a chance and see what it is called.

That looks very similar to the interactive/HTML version I have.

Just be careful, as you will note that they both say 2009 model year and I've noted differences in the sizes of fasteners on our 2011 (even as simple as the oil drain plug) which means torque values may be wrong on later models.

Leave it to Ducati to make the 696 manual 696 pages long...
