Title: Stolen in Melbourne: Ducati Monster Black 1000s - heaps of carbon Post by: Spider on October 31, 2008, 11:55:07 PM Bike's been stolen, anyone lays eyes on a black 2003 1000s, rego is GO734, lots of carbon bits. Look for a low-down-son-of-a-pregnant dog thief with a big smile across his face (it always put one on my dial).
after this I'm getting a bolt drilled into the cement and will have to use a krypyonite chain....anyone know who I contact to get that sort of thing done. After all the dodgy areas I've been to and left it, it got taken from my garage! Based in Melbourne, police officer taking the report must have thought I was I bit weird, just talking about that bike makes me smile, bloody hell they are a great machine. I'll talk to QBE on Monday - but even though I kept them updated on mods I don't think I'll get that back! Let's hope they joy ride it (nicely, please) and return it - but they store a jacket, gloves and helmet as well! If anyone finds them, kill 'em, and I'll do the time for you! (http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3030/2791241893_f864196f79_o.jpg) heartbreaking just looking at her....geez I love my bike! :D Title: Re: Stolen in Melbourne: Ducati Monster Black 1000s - heaps of carbon Post by: mattyvas on October 31, 2008, 11:57:16 PM Nooooooooooooooooooooooo

Thats gotta suck mate, makes me more than a little paranoid too. Lotsa these things are stolen to order (according to a Plod mate [leo]) Maybe someone in Vic needs some parts?? Maybe I'd better update the secuirity on mine. I guess the lesson there is to not leave the riding gear for the thieving prick/s , makes it easier?? :'( Certainly makes one toey. ??? Knowing the garage can't be opened from inside (without a remote) I suspect it's a bit of a planned job. that whole steal to order thing could be the go, despite my glowing post on the police, I don't think I have much of a chance...but don't know...will the insuracnce company know how often bikes are found after being stolen? If I can offer a glimmer of hope, well my young bloke had his road bike stolen from his garage, so he did the usual thing, you know, dummy spit, ring me to let me know, another f*^%ing c*^#ts dummy spit, report to police etc Last week he got a call from constabulary, come and pick your bike up son we've got er 'ear in th' holding yard. "You little ronny coot" said he. $160 later to release it and the damage was not too bad, so hey you never know. Mmick (might have to get the old whoopin stick out) Title: Re: Stolen in Melbourne: Ducati Monster Black 1000s - heaps of carbon Post by: goldFiSh on November 01, 2008, 02:11:37 AM I don't think I have much of a chance...but don't know...will the insurance company know how often bikes are found after being stolen? I think its safe to say your first thoughts are right. Depressing as it may be I think the chances are slim that you'll get a recovery and I'm pretty sure the ins company will say the same thing. But mmicks story above tells me that despite the odds, don't give up hope! So you are in a communal garage, and have a personal lock up inside as well? This is what I had in my former residence, and whilst my lockup had besa brick walls, the tilt-a-door was perforated so everybody could see in. I lost a mountain bike that way, as did one of my neighbours at the same time. Interesting that another neighbour has a _much_ better bike than the two that were stolen (as uber-light-weight cannondale), but he'd put some shade cloth over the perf door so people could not see in. Guess what I did shortly after! What I was told is that the thief can easily wait for the door to be legitimately opened by a neighbour, and then away the go. Remember that these garages also have sensors to ensure the door does not close on a vehicle, and a simple rag over the beam reflector will keep it open. Was there signs of forced entry, or were other items stolen? Time to start asking the neighbours... Title: Re: Stolen in Melbourne: Ducati Monster Black 1000s - heaps of carbon Post by: ptooey on November 01, 2008, 02:29:58 AM make the beast with two backs man, really sorry to hear this shite news.
You really put your heart and soul into that bike, so here's hoping some positive info comes of the bike, and for something negative of the make the beast with two backser that did it. I'll keep my eyes peeled Spider since I'm in the area. I only saw it last week and I could tell you put a lot of yourself into it, part of you goes with it. So much bling its going to be hard to recreate. That's a f*cken low act! Hope you get your bike back, but to tell you the truth, I don't hold much hope. I'm sorry to say that either your bike is in bits being sold for parts or is in a shipping container heading overseas. I don't hear of many bikes that were stolen being returned to their owners. :'( But I'm wrong most of the time. ;) Title: Re: Stolen in Melbourne: Ducati Monster Black 1000s - heaps of carbon Post by: goldFiSh on November 02, 2008, 01:54:05 PM Yep. When my first M800 was totalled, I was with QBE with a market value quote. I hadn't informed them about bling (only pipes at that stage) so it'll be interesting to see what they say re your bling seeing you have informed them.
Oh, and at that stage they didn't cover any gear either, but I think that has changed now (can anyone confirm?). Lost an $800 Arai in the crash, no coverage (it's now on display in the garage as a reminder!) If the cover the gear, I'm sure they will have a cap on it, so maybe you can claim on house contents insurance (if you have that). I'm now with NRMA, whilst more expensive, they will do agreed value and will cover the bling and gear (I had to itemise every bit and they will typically only cover up to a certain % of the bike value). Good luck with it all and let us know the outcome Title: Re: Stolen in Melbourne: Ducati Monster Black 1000s - heaps of carbon Post by: Super T.I.B on November 02, 2008, 02:47:49 PM Yep. The ex-senior detective that is investigating seems to be a good bloke. but how's this for a shocker - they won't insure me again at this address - cause the thieves will be back - how's that, I'm going to put the place up for rent so I can go live somewhere so i can continue to ride. and I want to stay with QBE (hell, i owe em!) if they keep up with the support...so I'll move! Makes sense, but it still seems kinda unreasonable.. Wouldn't it make more sense for them to help pay for better security for your shared parking? My last 2 bikes were with Swann, my current with QBE. Haven't had any major dealings with them so far, but QBE prices, policy, people and reputation amongst friends are already better. With the exception of Shannon's I don't know of another insurer that's as dedicated to riders. Title: Re: Stolen in Melbourne: Ducati Monster Black 1000s - heaps of carbon Post by: Spider on November 03, 2008, 01:40:26 AM Shannon's isn't for riders - it's for guys that wank over bikes instead of riding them. Their 'low use' policy is obviously designed to get rid of anyone who wants to actually use the thing - the quote was only competitive whilst I was riding to the cafe, as soon as I wanted to do some exploring...gone!

I once had a car stolen from outside my house. It was parked on the street as I had no garage or OSP. When I moved, I got a place with a lock up garage and an alarm but my premium went up simply because of the postcode. Nothing to do with my personal circumstances. I really hope you get your bike back spider, even if its just to harvest some of the carbon bits so you don't have to buy them again at the current exchange rate. We mentioned it to the guys at North Coast V-Twins in Coffs Harbour during the week and they suggested sending through the details http://www.v-twins.com.au/ (there is contact details on their website). Seemed to be genuinely helpful peoples up there. EDIT: Could be the type of market scumbags might look to. It seems (sadly) that they knew exactly what they were after ... which would indicate that they would try and move it on elsewhere. I also learnt the term knee (or more appropriately ankle) which decriptively names these scumbags as a couple of feet lower than a c**t. So to the 'Ankles' that stole Spider's baby ... I hope you get what is coming to you. Title: Re: Stolen in Melbourne: Ducati Monster Black 1000s - heaps of carbon Post by: wraith on November 13, 2008, 02:10:06 AM hey spider,
